Hi everyone.

I've been wanting to scout around for new and interesting photography locations for the past few weeks but haven't been able to do so. This ride will be focused on that search. As this is a photography ride, speed will be low and expect many unscheduled stops and U-turns. Also, I would like to keep the number of riders small just so we remain unobtrusive to the people around us.

Date: 7 October 2009 (Wednesday)

Time: 9pm

Meet: Esso@553 Upper Thomson Road

This ride will be restricted to three riders who are also into photography. Please put down your name and sms me at 98155287 if you are interested to join.

1. scubasimon

2.

3.

Thats all for now!

In case people are wondering what this ride will be about, here is a list of what I normally do, and what you might want to bring along.

What to bring along

1. Your bike, fully fueled.

2. Your water (you will need this).

3. Camera (with sufficient space in your memory card).

4. Tripod (recommended but optional).

5. Flash light (with sufficient battery charge, recommended but optional).

You can use any kind of camera. A simple point and shoot camera with the ability to switch off the flash would be a good starting point. Best to bring your camera manual along (if you still have it).

A tripod is essential equipment for night photography. You can get a cheap and simple Manfrotto Tabletop tripod (I am using this one) from Cathay Photo if you don't have one already. Any simple one will do. No need to get expensive kind.

As for flash light, its good to bring one because you can play around with light. I have one of those Energizer LED keyrings and that little light did wonders for some of my shots. So bring a flashlight along. Any LED type with a well charged battery will be good.

As you can see, there really isn't any fancy equipment needed. Anyone who wants to take night pictures can tag along for this ride.

What to expect

A photography ride will be different from a normal ride in that we will be scouting around for good photo opportunities. The plan is to ride to places where there might be nice lights (since it is night time). If the cloud cover is pretty, we might even try some night landscapes.

A place that looks normal in the day can look spectacular at night. Also, sometimes we will find hidden gems. It takes a lot of looking around. So during the ride I will be looking around A LOT to see if there are any interesting places. When I find a possible place, we will park and start trying things.

The trying is really where the most fun is. I enjoy the scouting too...but the act of capturing an image is really what gets me going. So here is where we will try different techniques and angles. I always learn something new from the people I photograph with and look forward to learning more on this ride as well. I am sure you will learn something new as well.

We will probably go to 3-4 different places before heading for supper. After that, we can go riding on nice roads or head home...it is really up to you.

Okidoki...enough about what to bring and expect. Sign up if you wanna join me :)
