Hi all i had been riding planet for more then a year n more then a year again by my GF n i can say i face my planet for a total of 3 years. Got the bike is purely for looks. if ur want to have a go with the SPs, rejetting of the carb is necessary. but comsumption will drop from 24+/l to 15/l....... which is abt the same as a nissian march or a m4 or a m9. other then that, its really a fantastic bike to look at n handling is really good i can say. Dont u planet riders feels its easier to go down low then a SP? n instrumentation r also fantastic, brembo brakes, inverted fork, mono rare shock.......etc. Hope all the planet riders enjoys their rides everyday^^

what i suggest is if u r really on a tight budget, HKL at queensway will do a fine job as this 125cc 2 two-srtoker wont be much a diff or complicated from others two-stroker. A better place to be will be at kallang cycle(michael) just behind the ducati workshop. He was once the chief mech at minerva 2 but his service is $X - labour charge. just my 2 cents

don't on your headlights... they drain the battery...

use the pole light can liao...

when i first got my bike, same thing... after about 15min i stalled, then cannot start... push start then run with pole light on... no problem the next morning...

From then to now...

Yup, I agree that the upside of owning a Planet is mainly for the looks. Have gotten quite a number of comments to date about how good it looks and the surprise from people when they learn that it is only 125cc. The Planet is also quite speedy on a flat road and does quite well on inclines once you have got some speed. I find the Planet's handling to be rather good, especially since I am using new tyres now.

The downside is that the Planet is expensive to maintain, requiring an expert's touch. Most mechs would rather not deal with the Planet because it is quite fragile so you end up going back to the agent, which would cost at least $200+. It is also a difficult bike to DIY, compared to Jap bikes.

You would also need to use good grade fluids (2T, petrol, gear oil, coolant etc.) since the Planet is not tolerant of low grade fluids, especially for 2T. Use at least Castrol's R2 (fully syn) or better.

The Planet also has a rather tempermental electrical system, requiring rather high revs (6000 RPM) to charge the battery. You wouldn't know that your battery is not charged or dying until you press the starter button and all you hear is a feeble whine. After some experimenting, this is a table of gear/speed you should ride at to charge the battery:

2nd gear: 30km/h

3rd gear: 50-60km/h

4th gear: 70-80km/h

5th gear: 90-100km/h

Don't worry if it feels like the Planet is very noisy at those speeds; it is a 'bike feature' :cheeky:

Consumption wise, it is not very good. My Planet averages about 17km/L but some have managed to squeeze 20+km/L out.

Having said that, I still love my Planet despite all the problems I have had and when the time comes for me to upgrade to a 2A bike, I will probably shed a few tears... :weep:

anyone got the latest OTR price? or anyone sellnig?? on tight budget of 1K

OTR price as in brand new? From what I know, the Planet has been replaced by the Raptor 125. The most obvious difference between the 2 is the exhaust pipe design. Last I heard, a brand new Raptor/Planet is over $10K.

You might be able to find a used Planet here but expect to pay more than $1K :goodluck:

The Kallang Cycle you refer to is within the same compound as Minerva? Might be quite awkward to be seen there by the Minerva techs... :cheeky: About Kallang Cycle's charges... are they cheaper or more expensive than Minerva? I am abit confused over the '$X - labour charge' bit.

I recently changed batteries, ride during the day with only the aux lights on and have been dragging the bike a bit more and everything is good so far... except that one time I left the parking lights on and had to push start :sian: But a round up and down the ECP fixed everything.

lol... how did you get them into parking lights? i've never been able to get the key to turn to P... on both the mito and the monster... and the planet/mito/monster have the same ignition thing...

anyway, at night also don't need to on headlight... just use the aux lights... unless its really dark

I mean it shd be cheaper then minerva n even the fat ducati mech joins michael for lunch everyday n slack there when free. So no need to be paiseh at all man! Except for tt Eugene( ducati chief mech).......i personally find him arrogant. I remember that time i was riding my M4, he had left ducati n set up his own shop at .....hmm Desker rd. i pass by his shop n when to look c look c. Of course i ask abt M4 tech thingy as i am new to it.......guess whats his reply?? Aiyah M4 nothing much to play one lah come back when u on a M9.......WTF!

above is onli one of the more dramatic xp i got. Actually i dont mind to go to minerva de but cause of 1 person.....when michael was chief mech there i visited quite often..........cos my planet n m4 had a pact that they will take turns to c the doctors for MCs..........=.="

How to switch on the parking lights? Hmmm... just turn the key? :cheeky:

Seriously though, it is sometimes very easy to switch to parking lights and sometimes impossible. I don't use the parking lights but I will sometimes try it for fun. What I do is to wiggle the key while turning it when the steering lock is engaged and it will usually go into parking lights mode. But there have been times when just a small turn and viola! parking lights are on.

Hmm.... so by all accounts, Kallang Cycle should deliver the same level of service as Minerva? How much do they charge for a full service (including valve cleaning etc)?

I only know 2 of the mechs at Minerva, Fat Boy (plump Chinese guy with glasses) and an older Chinese chap (don't know his name though), also on the plump side, who is always wearing the red Ducati shirt. I have seen 2 other guys, one Chinese (thin, square top haircut) and one Malay but I don't think they are the tech staff. Does this Eugene you speak of still work there?

eh where is terry ? mia ? MArs u know how to see whether the planet is powerful n not weak ?

ermm.....i cant tell from listening to the engine. But when i rode my fren planet, i realised mine can rev higher for every gear. The original planet can onli rev till a certain rev n it wont go higher......as if stuck like that. Its onli after i rode a normal planet that i realised the difference of the re jetting i made. Modding the bike is easy so b4 u get a planet make sure the engine still sound good. Thats most important. Weak or not u can mod it later if engine still in good condition.

Hi people...nedd the planet expert advice here!

My bike can't start unless i push start, even though i ride high revs before switching off engines ->indicating that battery should be fully charged, so it must be a starter problem, most prob coil or sometihng like that.

Also, lights, horn, signal all work fine...

anyone can help on the costs of replacing the starter coil? If so, do they do it at First Motor/Excel/Planet Motor etc? (try to avoid Minerva cos' of price)

thanks 4 all ur help...

1) Do the electrical components work when the key is turned to the on position? Is main beam bright?

2) Do you hear a whirling sound when you press the starter after checking 1?

Finally, don't jump to conclusions that the coil needs to be replaced. Any motorshop will happily sell you a new coil at an obscene profit, while secretly fixing your starter switch.

Firstly u shd let us know wat happened when u hit the starter switch. A click sound onli, starter like stuck? Althou horn n lights work fine, but the starter needs 12V. Did it fail to start even immediately after riding? last time when i had my planet i went to minerva then to michael( Lower Labour charge!!)

my starters gone just b4 1 year old n heng its still under warranty. If not its $500. i think the coil is abt 200+ if not wrong......wish u luck that its onli a loose wire connection n nothing else^^ Good luck
