Hi,

got my DRZ400SM last Sat. Is it normal for the right side of the engine to feel hot while travelling? And is the white container (water in green) on the left side meant to be empty? I saw it being about 1/4 full when I pick it up but now it looks almost empty.

Thank u!

isit a 1st hand bike or second?..

If its ferst, maybe the first thing to do is to take out this thing on the right( i forgotten whut the hell this thing is called) that is on the tight side..IT is actually used for cold countries and its used to heat the bike..Take that thing out..i'll pm you the name of the item..once taken out not gonna be as hot as before..

coolant?.

leave it empty in the bottle..The coolant will flow when the bike is overheated..trust me u wouldnt want to see the bottle getting filled up with coolant..

petrol level?.

its always good to fill up the bike to its brim, reset ur trip meter...ride till ur bike hit reserve..then roughly estimate hoe much ur fc is for the next (Ithink( 3Litres )..

if seek help..you might wanna go to the supermoto forum..

those are somethings i knoe..

hope that helps..

Hi it is the first bike. Please tell me what is the bloody thing that is making it hot..:) And when you say, 'ride till it hit reserve', do i have to manually change the knob to 'RES'? Or will it automatically do it for me once my tank is almost empty? Earlier, when I rode, I thought I already turned the knob to 'ON' but when I finished riding, I saw the knob turned to 'PRI'. What does it mean?

Should I turn the knob to 'ON' when riding and turn it somewhere in the 'PRI' when done?

switch it to on!..when petrol hits reserve, then switch to RES...Primary is automatic from full tank to its empty..danger is if you forget whut ur mileage is..u might end up empty in the middle of the expressway!..at least when you switch to on...when its gonna hit reserve, the bike will show signs that it need to be switch to reserve and you jolly find a petrol station a.s.a.p

May be you can go source for a tank indicator? For me its still the old school way of knowing the amount of petrol. Right side of engine feel hot might be the exhaust header.

when u r riding ur bike the so called white container with ur coolant would flow in to cool ur bike and when ur bike is cold it would flow back, did u remove ur pair system on the left side of your bike? Did you check ur radiator?

monitor ur mileage first lor dan calculate roughly how much u travel before reaching reserve lor. Or else bring to a reputable scrambler/ motard shop to have a check.

Pm me if you need help on finding the service shops

Well, first thing to do is to remove the Pair system on the left near the header at the front. This device is more of a temperate country spec. Next remove the snorkel on top of the airbox (below seat urself) and cut a 3x3 " square to increase air flow. There you go, your 1st Drz-sm Free upgrade.

As for the white container, its your coollant over flow reservoir. Should empty when cold in the morning. Some bikes have a little liquid in it after riding, normal. For my 3 year plus Drz, never saw any in it before. And my coolant is always full in the radiator.

My fren, the reason its hot on the right hand side is because your exhaust header runs through there! So unless it super hot, it means you are ok. If its super hot, like glowing, you have managed to pushed the bike to its limits.

The PRI on your petcock is for priming. It will deliver a richer fuel mixture to facitate cold starts in cold countries. Has to be turned back to ON or else you'll burn up a tank of fuel in no time. How to gauge F/C? Pump up to the max, reset your speedo, ride as you would be it hard or relaxed on your daily commuting. Mix highway and urban riding routes, avoiding excessive highway riding(as this will give you a lower F/C impression). When your bike splutters and jerks while traveling turn petcock to RES, ride to the nearest pump to fill up. Take note of the amount of fuel that goes in. Usually should be 7 litres +/-. So the math should be like this: 180 KM TRAVELLED / 7.1 LITRE = 25.3 KM per Litre. Consider you have a 3 litre spare tank, so in a dire situation your tank should last you 250 km.

Everyone has a different riding habit, some throttle happy, some relax, some mixed so results vary. Like for me I achieve 170 km without spare (normal) and 110 km on the same tank of petrol when I don't think like a normal human. That is on FCR carbs of course :slurp: Btw I never used the PRI except while I was out of town for 2 weeks so bike hard to start......
