Hi Cephelix,

sorry, din read your questions til now. I took mine from simplyscuba from chris. I took last year in oct or so when they had a promo, its 390 all in... They lend you the handbook. With the new requirement, I think you need to buy the handboook now, about $40. I'm not sure. I had not dived since then. We heard of many problems with operators like sinking boats etc, death in trip etc, so its safety is important. I did some research to suggest that the cost of diving overseas would roughly come up to the same as from a singapore operator. For example, in Ko Tao Thailand, price range from 250-300USD for Padi licence, you make the connection. Refills for tanks are all standardised maybe about $60 S / tank. I think you get better service overseas, eg, my friend had a porter carry her tank from start to end drinks when she comes up from the water etc... those things are the extra little services you may have in overseas.

If you really keen, there is fishermanscuba.com where they conduct courses up to dive master and dive instructor assistant for 2.5k. I am currently enquiring on that. Have fun diving!

Maybe can learn in Sg then do leisure elsewhere. A lot cheaper. Also u have lots of drill to do in open waters, dun waste $$.

Somemore ppl who can dive in sg can dive anywhere. Sg water is a good training ground.

anyway, whichever dive institution you go under will not make much diff. It's all about safety diving, unless you talking about dive masters and above.

if u wanna go tioman might as well go p.aur or p.dayang which is slightly further from tioman, the water is clearer there as its further from the shipping lanes and those 2 islands are mainly for divers only, so u can meet a lot of divers there to interact.... that time i went was with diventures under a promo by safra.

That's the event to go for serious divers! Come on, use your brain :slapforehead: You'll discover great dive organisers in the region, the best diving equipment, accessories, boats, resorts, magazines, etc... That can be planned as one of the itenery of a trip there. You don't dive 24 hrs, don't you? You will not discover those offered in Singapore 'cos our market here is too small. Cheers! Enjoy!:thumb:
