icic.. gt my tiger alrdy!! paid 9.4k in total... T_T

Hi t4kum,

Why is your pricing over $9k? Did u do a lot of upgrade or installment? If u put up around amk area, I wouldn't mind a meet up for kopi if free..

just got a quote from unique motors. total is 720(rim, washer, booster, bolt&nut , front and rear sprocket) without the clip.no point in going forward as the main important part is the clip. im gonna try planet motors(if got time later) or jb(got quoted 600+).

ok, do update us on the proceedings please

Hi nbk3,

I managed to find an opportunity to push my Tiger to 100kmh and it was 7k rpm. I did a few times on 90kmh on a straight empty highway. By far, with stock 43 sprockets, I began to feel the 'punchy' acceleration offered by the stock sprocket which was quite a good feeling. Not sure if it was the breaking into higher speed range, I find my bike is more 'willing' to move to 60-70kmh range, though it is fixed 60kmh@4500rpm. I am rather curious what difference you get from your 41 sprocket. Did you loose your pick-up significantly and if your speed has much increase?

By far, with due dry weather, I often approach to halt at a traffic junction by OFF THROTTLE & FREE WHEELING down from cruising mode when it is about 100-150 meters from the red light junction and slow halt w brakes. With the use of free wheeling, I manage to clock a better mileage of 470km for 12 litres of petrol this time round. Though I don't recommend this free wheeling on wet road.

for my 13/41 setup, at 7k rpm, it was also around 100kmh. comparing my experience with the stock 43, and the custom 39, i'll say probably 41 is a good compromise for pickup and speed, as most times in SG, we'll be needing pickup more.

470km for 12L = 39km/l, thats pretty good! but bearing in mind the need to moderate braking with engine braking. becos even if you save abit on FC by freewheeling much much more, it also means you are using up the brakepads much faster. there will come a point in which the savings are outweighed by the costs :) for safety, i would recommend using abit more engine braking. my fc is only about 37km/l, currently reaching 19000km soon!

finally got my bike back last week. waited 2 months++. total cost $596. changed rims, battery(since it died not using it for 2 months), sprocket and a few other small stuff i forgot. my sprocket size is 13/43 now so its very heavy. didnt get to find a lower size so i'll just stick with it for the time being till i can find one.

how's ya'll tiger doing?

plenty of pickup with that setup! good to have u back on the roads

i honestly think i got too much pick up, a lot of vibration at cruising speed. but its better than having no bike. haha

did they manage to discover what actually caused the problem??

Posted

they say its because the clip connecting the sprocket to the rims fell out and then they blame the sinnob. but i told them that it cannot be the sinnob as 1) its made for tiger 2) i've used it previously(curently its my 2nd set) without problems. i realise the problem abt 1 week after i changed my tyres. they also said that change tyre never disturb the sprocket, so its not their fault. i have a feeling that on my 2nd tyre change they didnt assemble it properly/ tighten it thus the problem crop up.

Hi nbk3,

Hope all things going well. Yes. My Tiger still serving me well.:)

Btw, can I ask you what will be the difference in performance if the chain is being stretched after a season of running? Will a loose, or rather less tight chain, result in loosing the torque or acceleration?

It was also a strange feeling that I often felt that the bike seems travel faster on a open road AT NIGHT during cruising, though the speedometer shows same reading in the daytime. Not sure if this a wrong perception.

Great news that I m getting great mileage. Previously, it hit 470km without hitting reserve tank. I have observe closely, indeed the last two tank of exact 12 liters top-up, each gave me 490km and recent one 460km without touching the red mark. I hope this is correct: when we put the reserve 'ON' (knob arrow pointing upwards), we are not allow to use the reserve tank. Is this correct?

a slightly looser chain is much better then a overly tight chain if u ask me. as for whether it will affect torque or acceleration? negligible i believe. as the front sprocket will keep the top of the chain tight while pulling the rear sprocket. the slack will be at the bottom. BUT if its overly loose, during engine braking and accelerating, there will be a jerk as the bottom of the chain's slackness is tightened.

the arrow pointing UP is that its NOT on reserve, while to the side its OFF. only when the arrow points DOWN, its reserve :p its a good idea, after every topup to run it on reserve. the rationale is that if theres any condensation previously within the tanks, water will settle at the bottom, hence running it on the reserve knob allows the carb to draw fuel from the bottom of the tank, where the water, if any, would reside. allowing it to be cleared before it builds up to problematic amounts.

great mileage you're getting there indeed! im hanging steady on about 37km/l.

Hi nbk3,

I finally somehow encounter a problem which occurred earlier once before. This afternoon, I couldn't start up my bike even I be place it on choke. The electric starter after depressed, it churn up but quickly got stalled (and left with a soft electric rattling sound, which is too weak to ignite the engine). I have tried to restart the engine again at night just now but it was in vain. Tis never happened, except i only recall both time of stalling, i had ever turn the knob to 'reserved'. Earlier on Friday I cleaned up my bike and had ever turned the knob to 'reserve', but I later switch it back to 'on'. Do u think it is the condensation issue at reserve tank, that resulted the failure to startup?

Omg! It took 2 months for you to get parts for your tiger? Is tiger so rare and stock parts so hard to find. This is definitely going to scare away potential buyers. Its a nice bike unfortunately getting extinct. What is the reason? Nobody knows :faint:

May be it would have made sense for you to take a ferry to batam and get the parts for 1/3 the price and you wouldnt have had to wait so long also.

has the battery been checked on recently? the stock battery that comes with it needs to be topped up once in a while. i had mine changed to a sealed maintenance-free battery a while ago.

If the engine doesnt crank, its highly possible that either 1.) the gears are engaged, 2.) the battery is dying.

if condensation builds up, it wud just take the engine alot more cranks before it starts up.

Posted (edited)

@Violinbite: Most probably your battery's dead. Same situation as mine.

Need some help for the following queries:

1. Anyone has any idea how much does the battery for Tiger costs?

2. To those who changed to the maintenance free batts, what brands did you guy use?

3. And also, anyone happen to have good-condition battery (regardless wet or dry) to sell, can contact me via 9862-9810? Thanks...

to confirm is it battery problem, take a multimeter check your battery voltage after overnight parking...

a good battery should have a voltage of 12+v and able to hold that charge...

11+v still can start but will show your battery is deteriorating...

if the battery voltage shows good, then problem might lie with your crank starter or rectifier...

for battery, head to lab to get and install yourself...

Hi nbk3,

It was the battery fault. It was dead. Currently, they use back the stock battery by YAUSA brand which needed to top up water. Can you recommend me a better battery product (maintennce free type is great).? Where can i buy it? Don't wish to stall and pay for towing..:)

since you know how to switch batteries around, im sure you know where LAB is :thumb: i dont have the exact models with me but as long as the battery is of at least 7AmpHour, 12v and the terminals are placed correctly together with suitable dimensions, you can pop by LAB to grab what they have. Yausa has maintenance free batteries as well, but to be even more sure, why not bring your old dead battery there to compare and ensure you get something suitable?

some people practice fully charging the new battery before using it, but thats preference and coupled with the availabilty of chargers, might not be practical to some of us. but if your rides are generally long distance, i tink u'll be fine with just plug-and-play :)

around $50. I had mine changed at planet motors, yausa maintenance free. it was along the way back from work hence i decided to save the hassle and get it done there. as Alvin mentioned, LAB im sure has stocks for MF batteries for DIY

Thanks. I need to know the estimated cost of the battery, cuz for what I know, tiger uses a battery with a higher power rating, so i think the cost might be greater too.

Anyway, thinking of going back down to ban hong to buy battery... Nearer to my home.

your bike still can ride right?

head down to LAB, ask them to take a look at your battery and they will know which one to give you...

ask them to mix in the solution 1st then you just bring home...

once you reach home or 30 mins later the battery is ready to be installed...

its maintenance free just that the solution have to be mixed...
