Top Box - depends which brands (how many litres) or ST's top box(small and expensive)

TPFT - $600+ for me (diff age diff price)

1 year road tax - $300+

engine oil - 3l plus = 4 bottles (around $80)

Hi Amen23,

I have encounter this before for my S4. If i still remember its the brake bearing wear and tear result damaged. That mean by rite after press the brake lever, the brake pad will contact brake disc, when release the brake lever... brake pad should go back to original position and this is move by the bearing inside the brake. When the bearing wear and tear, the brake pad will not go back to original postion smoothly after you release your brake lever. This result the brake pad sometime stuck near the brake disc.

Think there are 4 bearing on each side of the brake, Total got 8 bearing and each cost $15, Total will be $120.

This happened to my S4, hope the info will help you to solve your problem.

But think you better check with your mechnic first before come to this conclusion.

Regard,

Normen

Do send your bike to the shop to change the piston seal. Each piston (looks like a small brass bucket with a diameter of a fifty cent coin and height of an inch or so)has one outer and one inner seal (looks like thin cross sectional slices of rubber hose). Each ST calliper has 2 piston ports. bike has 2 front and one rear calliper, all alike. So that works out to be 6 sets of 2 rubber seals per set. Eversucess sells them for around $7 per set, sold per set only.

As such, material only should set you back by $42, 1~2 bottles of DOT5 brake fluid is exclusive.

I guess shops can charge easily $70 and above for this job (all 3 callipers do together that is).

I have done this many times and hence safely I can say that this job can be Diy-ed if you have the tools and knowhow. If you are diy-ing, take some time to brush the pistons clean of gunk before fixing everything in (this really smooth things up a lot lot when you try the brakes!).

Will take you at least 3 hours plus. But make it half a day or more if you are doing it for the first time (sh*t can happen as I took one day to do for my first go). If you are on ABS, things can be pretty tricky...

Trust me, brake pads are not built to bite your disc if the pistons are not pushing. Unless in extreme cases where the pads are worn and the metals have contact so fast until they get welded together with the disc... very very very unlikely to happen on normal road use bikes...

So what hapens if problem not solved? For non ABS ST11, I think its just a case of faster brake pad wear, lower mileage, pickup, power and eventually it might lead to disc scratches if you don't monitor the brake pad thickness well. Shouldn't kill you, yet. For ABS ST, hmmmmm... wonder if those brakes still work as they should...

Jeffrey

HI THERE,

It only happens sometime in the morning..???I would suggest you to wash the brake calipers spraying water into the calipers to remove excess dust, DO NOT USE degreaser at all time at rubber seals or bearings....these will damage your seals regardless what the degreaser claimed...

How Old is the bike...?

The Brake calipers works in a simple's method no return springs or bearings as someone say... after you apply or depress the brakes, the calipers grips tight on the disc or rotor when you release the brake, the brake infact dosen't return but just release the rotor or disc, thats the reason why when your brake pads wear the brake fluid in the reservoir lowers only not finish and doen't need to top up ...after you replaced the brake pads the brake fluid in the reservoir returns to the normal (actual) level...

Please do not top up the brake fluid unless you are for very sure it is leaking...then if it is leaking you know what to do the next thing is to be at the WKSHP to retify the problems at once..!

If you top up the brake fluid you know, what happens...if there is no leaking the brake pads are worn....chances for the caliper to be jammed is great...and you may end up in an accident...

If the brake fluid have not been replace for a long time Check the bikes Manual and use it as a guide.....

Replace the brake fluid and if neccessary the brake pads look for the groves at the brake pads using a torch light shining under the brake calipers inbetween there are the brake pads...if the brake pads grove almost finish or half way finishing or if you hear any grinding sound of metal during braking or moving off...look at the rotor or disc for sign of metal grinding your brake pads have an uneven wear...replace it at once.....

Chances of your brake piston's cup seals wearing is very low only after extension(heavy) uses.. maybe almost one complete round on your speedometer...unless there is a malfunction(accident or disc warp) then it is a totally different story...

I hope these help you guys to understand about the brake calipers... o_O

Hi....

any1 got any idea why my baby drained the full tank with just 300km...

:giddy: :giddy: :giddy:

hi ev,

have u really top up ur tank nicely..?

there r several reasons for it;

1) Plugs' condition

2) improper air/fuel mixture

3) cracked manifolds

4) dirty carburettor(very unlikely)

5) engine condition(pray hard is not)

let me check ur bike when we r free.

Hi ev,

The usual way to calculate your mileage per litre is to top up your tank to near the neck of the opening. Remember to reset the speedometer. Then travel till the low fuel light appear. When you top-up your fuel the next time, take note of the total mileage and total litres of petrol pumped into your tank. from there, only can you tell......try not to top up bit by bit as that will not be accurate. Over a few top ups, you can then averagely tell the consumption....

Hope it helps... ;)

Steps to do a proper KNNBCCB with middle finger.

1. Bow down slightly, looking intensely at objective

2. Like a raging bull, hop and jog slowly towards objective

3. Take your left palm and slap it hard on the right mid-arm with a SLAP!

4. With charisma, raise right arm, whilst showing middle finger (with left palm trapped in bend right arm)

5. Shout! KNNBCCB
