Simon,

Is 1 liter for 17km for city riding common? I also notice that a full tank of fuel used on Singapore expressway 70% of the time last longer.

Thomas

thomas28,

not to worry, it's norm for most ST1100s for town riding.

make sure ur tire pressure r well maintained.

Simon,

Is it normal to have the handle bar shaking after we have changed the tyre for 3 - 4 months and also, is it a common problem on all ST1100?

I was told that the shaking was due to a mis alignment of the front forks by a mechanic.

Hi, stumbled onto this forum. Been riding for about 2 years. Noticed that ST riders are the most courteous. Somehow we tend to acknowledge/greet each other when we pass each other.

I have some questions:

1. My tires' pressure goes down after a week or so. My mechanic checked my tires, and there is no leak. Been to the air pump every fortnight. Is it normal?

2. Since the bike is mostly plastic, what polish/wax do you use?

3. I'm looking for a bracket to mount my IU. Currently using double sided tape and mount onto the dashboard behind the screen. Can you recommend where to buy, how much and where do u mount your bracket?

4. Can i replace the lock on the sidebox, cos i have one on each side 'jammed'. If so, where and how much?

5. During my inspection last year, I was told that the sticker license plate was not allowed and I had to replace it with a metal one and come back to be inspected. The reason given was that, someone can just possibly tear it off. Crappy reason to me, but I had to do it. Is your license plate at the front of your bike, pasted on the screen like a sticker or a metal plate, screwed to the front?

Thanks for taking time to read and answer my questions.

Have a great week ahead.

hi DesertRose,

1. replace the tire inlet valve, wont cost u much.

2. I use 'Polyglaze' products to maintain the shine from day 1 since 26mths ago.

3. not only ST1100 owners, many of our fellow bikers r using quality bracket from 'Seng Kwang' aka SKMC.... price is on the high side but it's a premium quality ERP bracket.

4. It replaceable but u need to take it out to experienced locksmith to work on, some effort required. few of our members dug out the broken plastic inside to clear the jammed.

5. the law require it to be screwed on.

Hi guys, I'm a new owner of an ST1100X, looking forward to learning from you guys and really getting to know the bike.

Hi reds,

ST stop production around year 2001. For machine price must depends on the condition of the bike. but personally I feel a bit on the high side if only the machine price.

As For timing belt manual stated btw 80 000km to 120 000km. For price different place have different price and also do u want ti include other replacement or repair. Price can range from 1 or 2 hundreds (timing belt only) to 8~9 hundreds ( include other stuff like valve cleareance, water pump, cooling pipe etc)

TheReds,

mine was manufactured in 02', production seized around 03'. our newest ST1100 owner registered his bike on Aug last year..

timing belt has a limited life span up to 150,000km due for replacement, as quoted in service/repair manual it require to be inspected at around 100,000km for cracks & other signs of deterioration. I replaced my timing belt by Sanfu cost me only less than $160(all-in). :thumb:

coolant pump has no indicated life span, it'll be fine if u well taken care of coolant service interval at 38,400km with normal coolant properly mixed with distilled water.

Thanks Simon,

I am viewing 2 bikes tomorrow so, hopefully, join the DIY session. That will be great help as I know nuts about ST.

errhh... how much did the newest owner pay for the ST? I wish to compare is 18K OTR reasonable for a 2-3 year used ST.

Thank you guys for the inputs in past weeks. I look forward in meeting you!

Yo Red,

Personally, i feel that otr 18k is very expensive ...

The brand new 1 or the very last 1 was bought by Jerry

not sure but i think is 21k or 22k

Just imagine i push mine into the bike shop ... they are only taking about 10k

mine is 12/2000 registered.

I feel can u can bargain regarding the price... dont rush...

Next thing is ... try to get hold of the no.plate... we might know the previous owner.

Dont rush, dont rush , dont rush
