Hi guys, I'm opening a thread to discuss [constructively] about the various publications of singapore's or overseas motorcycle magazines (e.g. MCA, 2-wheelers, Bike, etc.) as i am an avid reader of such magazines.

Comments and opinions are welcome, but let's try to keep it civil shall we?

Moderators have every right to pull the plug on this thread if things get out of hand. Those who know, know.

========================

Just received the latest copy of MCA in the mail (came with a KNN air filter textile badge, but that's beside the point), and i have to say that the layout and outlook is getting better, and the new features are quite interesting.

No doubt the publication still represents advertiser's interest, but that's just the way to survive in SG's print industry. If one can overlook this flaw, the magazine is actually becoming somewhat readable.

----------

P.S. i am in not affiliated with any print or publishing firm in any way.

Unfortunately there was a conflict of interest.... like i said those who know, know. But i know nothing so i don't dare to say too much.

i used to look at bike mags a lot. but i find that the information isn't very useful to me. the only thing that is good in mca (in my opinion) is the local sporting news. the bike reviews aren't really reviews. and the thing i feel they should improve most is the writing. i haven't seen the latest one that is mentioned here...but past issues had some "interesting" writing styles.

having said that, i will still buy this magazine as it is the only local one i have seen that is widely available. credit must go to the publisher for taking this seriously. my hope is that they will find a way to take in feedback from readers and understand that we only give feedback because we care enough.

time to go to the petrol station to get my copy!

Frankly i dun really like MCA. It doesnt keeps me glued. I also dunno why. I usually like magazines with close comparison of the said class and i usually buy those year end issues where they feature all the good bikes for that year and rate it.

I find local magazines lacks something which i cant explain.

i buy MCA whenever i see at petrol kiosk.. (just to support local publication) though most information can be found in internet..

and if u browse thru oversea forums.. they complain about their magazines too.. (UK forums often complain about MCN mag) as editors are crap and such..

been following MCA for around 3 issues and while the writing is not entirely great, its only 3 bucks, so its a steal... i think the bike reviews need a lot of improvement because they only have good things to say about every bike they review... whats the point of doing a review of a product if you have only good things to say about it? i as a consumer want to know what are the good and bad points about a product so that i can make a better decision when i get to the shop....

but you cant blame them too; they review products which their advertisers want them to, so lan lan have to write good things about it...

Been reading the BIKE (UK) for years already.

Always a great read, with informative reviews, interesting write-ups, funny columns...etc.

I do sense a skewed sense of leaning towards the reviews for Hinckley Triumph bikes though. Otherwise, a very good bike magazine.

Used to buy TWO Wheels also, a Aussie mag, But it got boring to me over the years.

Sometimes buy RIDE for the reviews, though you can thumb thru it at tyhe bookstores rather quickly. :)

MCA? I buy it bcos its local, cheap and sort of relevant.

To be frank, most of the articles does not really interest me.

@xXxRatedxXx: well, i am not really into buying bike magazines but still get mca because, like so many others have mentioned, it is produced locally. i just hope that the level of journalism improves, regardless of the cost of the magazine. after all, nobody (i think) will buy it for unbiased reviews...get a good editor to straighten out the read and it could actually be a really nice local magazine :p

My preference is Bike and Performance Bikes, which i get monthly from our brother Will here on the forums.

Sometimes he'll toss is a free copy of MCA, which i never read, MCA turns me off. The only local mag i read is 2-Wheelers, cos it's pretty unbiased and refreshingly down-to-earth, although they need better editing.

Yeah i also get my supply of BIKE from the same person....

Yeah 2-wheelers may claim to be unbiased, but there is definitely an element of advertiser interest in their sponsored trip articles.

managed to flip through an issue today at borders... the writing is better and the articles are well thought out... they talked about the future of the moto gp in terms of honda, yamaha and ducati, plus how they are expected to do in the near future,,,

I haven't picked up their latest edition yet. But I will when I see it. It's only $3 anyway.

I hope it gets better of course. It HAS to get better with time. That's the natural progression of things.

It has been criticized, argued over in the forums, flamed at and about. So the editors and writers should have had time to go over the feedback.

And ditto what Myxilplix said above. My favs are still PB, Fast Bikes, and Bikes. I haven't really paid attention to 2-wheelers as they seem to be tour centric and rather bland too, but I guess I should pick it up for a read.
