2) does anyone has headlight protectors for tdm, or issit deemed unecessary actually? this is really subjective i guess, but opinions are harmless.

3) does the FI tdms comes wif self diagnosis stuff like the fjrs or the tua gus? meaning there's a display panel telling u the fault code in the event tat there's one.

4) havent read abt anyone complaining abt heat probs ard the tank area? any feedback?

any further links on tdms are appreciated cos i cant seemed to find any except for fanciful photo galleries

1) there's Metz and BTs if I'm not wrong. maybe more. Been using Metz. So far so good

2) something fancy for me I guess.. hopefully it will serve its purpose when a small rock hits it head on.

3) Yes

4) No heat problems around tank. Only thing about heat is when the fan turns on, hot air will be blown out from the vents below the tank. Maybe this is what you mean?

In 1 of the post, the fuel consumption was said to be around 25km/L. I am most iimpressed with the fuel consumption of this bike.

The 1 big thing that keeps me from considering a bike beyond 600 is the consumption. Now it seems like my prayers are answered.

This is defintely a plus for the TDM.

I went for it also bcos of its slim built and weight.

Squeeze traffic like any S4..

leaving the fat cats behind... (vara, strom, ATs..) lol

hahah..who say one..i squeeze with u ah!!

hi tdm owners, a few trivial qns for u guys here. appreciate if anyone can enlighten the interested :D

Its pretty quiet all along till u came along and suddenly all became lifely again :cheer:

1)Not 100% true as there's ready stock of Mez Z4s, Z1s, Z6s and BT020s readily available for the bike. The only issue is the lack of range of the type of tyres. Dual purpose tyres do not come in our TDM size combi.

2)Yes, a couple of us have got it thru Motovation. Contact them if you need a pair of goggles :cheeky: Most bikes that frequently head up north will tell u that its a good thing to have esp when u are travelling at high speeds. Its better to scratch or crack a $45 plastic than a few hundred $ lens assembly.

3)Yup there's self dianostics and the computer will tell u what error it is if there is any. U need the service manual to make out what they mean. Plus being electronic, you can adjust ur FI settings IF you know and DARE. Some of us adjusted the CO2 settings with good results.

4)I find the TDM900 very cooling compared to other fairing bikes. No hot tank issue for me. Plus my black colour is a good conductor of heat. In fact u r right, there's no heat issue with the TDM.

Yappiez's link is the international TDM forum. Thats a good place to read up on the TDM from owners all over the world.

Feel free to ask questions, will try to ans to my best ability.

Yup its not some bullshit thing we claim. Its nice that the TDM has an economy mode where u have to ride strictly within sgp's legal limits and not hit over 4k rpm to hit that kind of consumption. I have forsaken that recently to have more punch on the roads. Even so when I'm more throttle happy, my TDM still manages 21-22km/L.

Thank you very much to all the warm-hearted brothers who have responded to my queries.

1) i have read that the 2005 version has ABS. I know nothing abt ABS except that it cost more, weighs more and brakes more effectively ....question : is it worth to have the ABS or the 2004 is good enough?

2) I have never seen this bike b4, saw the seat heat to be 82.5cm @ the lowest. I am 177cm, do u guys think the bike is uncomfortable high for my height? I like to have both feet touch ground, jiao ta shi di (脚踏实地)

3) I have read that this is a mid-range rpm bike (4000 - 7000rpm). Does it mean the power will come in @ 4000 onwards? If yes, does it mean pick up is lousy?

Pls advice, guys.

hey me too :cheeky: i actually happen to be arsehole enuff to throw my leg over a FV tdm one fine day which i dun even noe who owns it  hope the owner doesnt read this.. but i was on the lookout for a few weeks b4 i gather enuff guts for the act

i haf no idea whether the owner did anytihng to the seat, but i am able to haf both my soles firmly on the ground fully straigthened ( the tdm was on its side-stand ) , and i am standing at 175cm with military boots tat day.

i browse thru the link by yappiez and realised a lot of them were sort of lamenting about

1) tdm's front being too light

2) the headlights not powerful enuff ( i tink this is quite impt for pple here who goes up the morth often )

3) problematic FI up till the 03 model or so

any comments, esp those with 40L side panniers on pt 1

1) No one has owned a TDM900 ABS yet. Maybe you will be 1st one. Frankly, no one knows how it will be like. The closest will be to find out about the FJR's ABS system. Depends how much more it cost to have it as an option. I feel ABSis more of a good thing than a bad thing despite the weight issue. 3kgs more is ok lah...I'm sure u can loose that amount of body weight to compensate :offtopic:

2)Yes seat height is 825mm. U r considered a tall fella. I'm 1.7m and have to tiptoe slightly on both feet. 1 feet can flat foot. So U shd be able to flat foot on both legs which I'm afraid you might find it might be a little too low for your build. Its ok to tiptoe slightly on both legs.

3)Thats the power band. The most fun or shiok zone to ride in. A variable intake duct effectively brings out the full potential of the new injection system. The air cleaner box will automatically adjust the air intake volume in accordance with engine rpm. Below 4000rpm the duct closes down about one-third of the intake area. Hence the higher consumption beyond 4k rpm.

Pickup is good I would say, you will hit those rpms anyway if you are playing pickup. Have not done a comparison with other bikes, so I can't comment for sure how it compares.

Really, the TDM is an all rounder. It does not have the fastest of pickup or the highest top speed or the lightest weight. But it will do everything you want it to to almost 80% of the best bike you know in those areas. Its quite a mild bike that is good for both city riding and touring. Will not overwhealm u by excessive uncontrollable or usable power. Very forgiving and easy to handle. Just my views.

 Red Alert TDM owners!!!! There's people aiming our bikes !!!! Help!!! Just joking furbykong. Well...you dun have to do that actually. Just join us or jio us out to let u sit. I'm sure we will be glad to do so. I dun think u like ppl jumping on ur bike an sit sit play play without ur knowledge rite? Worse still the bike pengz. No offence but there are jokers out there who got no license or skill to manage a big bike and try to act garang. Got an uncle who sat on my ducati monster and dropped it on my neighbour's bike. Broke and scratched some stuff on my and neighbour's bike. Then drove off in his car to siam. He was there waiting to pick someone up...so nothing better to do. My neighbour witness the whole event but could not track him down and trying to ambush him the next few days did not succeed. He dare not come back and does not live here.

1)Light? Then how come I cannot wheelie??? hahaha...jokes aside. I have no comments as I find it normal. No issue to me at all. And the TDM front suspension is FULLY adjustable to suit ur style of riding, that should solve the 'lightness' on the front. I ride permanently with 2 40L H&B panniers. It improves the stability of the bike at high speeds as it brings down the C.G. This is in comparison with a single topbox setup.

2)Headlights are the latest H7 bulbs used in the latest generation cars on the roads now. Its good enough for me. Unless u r a frequent nite rider, then fix additional driving lamps.

3)FI can be reprogrammed. But our local owners here do not seem to have that issue.

lol thats why I cover my bike everywhere i go.. :box:

I feel the front being light too but only when travelling at very high speed. abt 160km/hr and above trying to catch up with Bara's fat lady. :giddy:

been playing around with suspensions also but didnt seem to solve the problem.

I believe the boxes made a difference in the CG and overrall downforce. Barra seems to be able to travel at quite a high speed through the turns.. leaving my gutless soul alone far far away.... maybe its jus me but I like to think otherwise.. lol

i am 174. when i take a deep breath and tuck in my manhood, :shades: yeah, i can plant my both my feet on the ground.. but hey, with my err-hmmm at stake I rather have only one foot down. Oh yeah, it helps with you are at the customs trying to inch forward without power.. and thats when the other bikers laugh out loud in their hearts as they cut into your lane with mercy.

pick up i also didnt try but an FJR overtook me with ease when I was road hogging at 150km/hr... oh, I did beat a Shadow at Bugis some time back... jus ask Kenny.

2) I think this pannier box looks very cooooooooooooool plus gives protection to engine & legs in case anything but is it wider than the handlebar? From the angle of the photo, it seems like wider, if wider, how to overtake with big butt?

3) Give a breakdown of the cost of panniers and rack, pls.

4) As mentioned in 1 of the replies, pushing bike @ customs is a common scene. I asked abt the legs touching ground for safety and confidence plus laziness to get off and push bike, which I used to get off and push. I am glad to know that it's highly likely that I can touch the ground with both feet. I feel more confident with this bike now.

5) In 1 of the replies, there was mentioned about CG. Personally, I dont feel comfortable riding tall bikes like African Twin or scrambler 'cos of clumsiness when turning. Can anyone comment on this bike's CG @ turning as compared to scramblers and other common road bikes eg super4?

Thank you again for all the warm replies. Buying this bike or not, 'least I know TDM'ers are a good lot :)

I share a very sia sway thing with u guys....i failed my class 2 5times (looooooong story) *sigh*

Getting this bike or not depends on 2 things,

a) pass class2

b) get perm job after i grad (soon) - I am mountainbike undergrad now. Bo lui ah, singapura :p

Maybe you are referring to my previous post regarding the CG issue, what I meant was, i think the overall CG is reduced on Barra's bike due to the weight and position of the panniers as compared to mine with a topbox. Lower CG meant more stable cornering. I guess... I dont know if it affects handling at low speed as in when making u-turns. hope it make a little sense...:giddy:

however, I feel that good throttle control is essential in making a smooth U-turn.

It is not really that clumsy as compared to a cruiser with wide handle bars but the engine response during bad throttle control that make a simple task harder that it is.

The only yellow tdm i know belongs to a navy chap. unless he switch profession or u r referring to a navy sch....

1) Yup, thats my TDM and it looks like tt hahaha

2)It wider than the handle bar. No worries if you drop the bike, the handlebar and panniers will protect the fairing. Still need engine guard or sliders to protect the engine part. Coz if you drop beside a kerb, it will zhun zhun kenna the engine block. Only a 45 degree tilt will hit it aldy. I rather it fall flat. Well..good thing I had the engine guards that saved my day. Panniers are wider than the handlebar but you can still judge the allowance you can squeeze. Lane splitting is no issue to me at all. Maybe I am very used to the big butt. You can try following behind me during peak hours and see if you can catch up. You can ask yappiez how I manage in heavy traffic.

3)Got it at M-Technik Total $950 ($600 for panniers and $350 for rack)

5)Turning or U turning is also about countersteering. I can U-turn within 2 lane widths. Is this good enough? I dun think we need to do a pin head U turn to prove a point. Think your unconfortableness with tall bikes has got to do with confidence as well. Which is also affected by your confidence in your tyres and bike as a whole. I have seen tallish bikes like GS, AT, Vstrom corner more aggressively than a sportsbike. So dun let the CG affect you so much. Yappiez got some tips from our riding trips and now he's much better at corners now :thumb: It is an advantage in the design of such bikes--> To take on the mountain twisties. On one of our trips to msia, you will be convinced that if sportsbikes are in the group, you'll leave them far far behind.

Nope, it does not fit coz there's no rack there at all. A top box rack is separate. I think ard $200 for the rack alone.

hi guys, long time never visit this forum already... shock to find out my bike might have been 'molested' in school :)

yappiez, thks for your introduction of me :) furby, if the bike u sat on is in sembawang camp then it will be mine :) im not a perm staff just a trainee... with your height u should have no problem with the bike cos im only 168cm 'tall' :) my bike rear short is replaced by a shorter technoflex shock though... i have been riding my TDM for 2years+ and i have never had any major problem except for a coolant pump leak and a faulty timing chain tensioner... so far the bike is meeting all of my expectations :) hope with the laser mufflers and knn filter, the bike can be 'better' :) if not a power commander will be on its way soon :)

by the way anybody got a tdm from the hong leong sale?

Posted

haha no la my " school " is nus at buona vista / clementi.

footing shld not be a prob, my main prob is reversing when sitting, cos upslope is a chore for me ( i believe most pple ) wif my current seat height of ard 790mm
