Interesting test of the Super from the guys of motoblog.

Good point in pt.2 is what he explains about the ABS:

1-put the bike on the central stand

2-engine on

3-put first gear

4-accelerate al little bit

--> the abs warning light will blink --> the bike is detecting an excessive difference in speed between front and rear wheel spin and interprets it as possible malfunction in the abs sensor. To avoid breakdowns it simply turns off the ABS for the back wheel, so you now have the bike with usefull front ABS and usefull rear blockable wheel.

What Idon't know is how he activates the ABS again. Maybe just turn the bike off then on and everything works again? (but you also have to repeat the process if you doesn't want the ABS)

[yt]

[/yt]

[yt]

[/yt]

It is informational and a review.

video1:

He likes the stabbility and precision and specially how easy it is to change direction and the front stabbility.

The guy is really impressed with the front of the bike. For him the best on the big-enduro class. Both rear and front suspension very good, + the fork really great. "The fork is allways precise, comfortable, stable and very, very reactive when riding hard". "It never looses his line, is precise and coherent".

The bike allows very good lean angles and feels very good doing them with nice suspension and a solid frame.

The brakes are also impressive, with the abs processing many data. For example, ABS does not work allways the same, it reads the speed of the bike (not only the wheels) and acts accordingly moddulating the braking (that's how I undestand it: if you are at 40kmh or 120kmh)

He likes braking both on and off road, but specially in wet condition.

Engine is very sweet. It doesn't care if you're on 3rd, 4th or 5th gear.

video2:

Explanation of the TCS modes.

TCS is not too much intrussive. It allows enough play to control the bike.

The position standing is perfect. Ideal to ride fast off road. Can be guided with the knees and it follows trajectories nice.

Explanation of ABS trick.

As promised earlier.

Metal Mule have made some Pannier racks and a rear rack for the S10.

These are the original prototypes and are not powder coated or finished off properly. They are however, very well made.

It,s an easy job to remove the side panels in the field.

Under the seat you will find a single Allen/hex key. This key is to remove the four quarter turn fasteners on the lower right hand side cover. You will also use the key to push in the black plastic fasteners on the inside (near the forks) of the cover before it can be removed.

You can then remove the top part of the right hand side cover.

And this is what it looks like....

http://www.waspworks.com/gallery/supertenere/WASPWORKS%20Super%20Tenere%20040710_05.jpg

The removal of the right hand covers allows full access to all of the vital electrical components including all fuses and battery. I did not specifically look but I am sure the ECU is tucked away somewhere nearby.. The regulator rectifier is located on the inner face (near the forks) on this side.

The left hand (radiator side) cover is a similar process to remove but has no quarter turns, they are all full screws and the top and bottom cover is one piece and can be removed with the same key.

And this is what it looks like.

http://www.waspworks.com/gallery/supertenere/WASPWORKS%20Super%20Tenere%20040710_06.jpg

With the removal of two bolts,The fuel tank on the new Super Tenere can be pivoted backward to allow access to the air filters.

This is what it looks like with the tank pivoted back.

http://www.waspworks.com/gallery/supertenere/WASPWORKS%20Super%20Tenere%20040710_07.jpg

Previously I showed the pictures of the side panel removal and the fuel tank pivoting.

The fuel tank must obviously be tilted up to allow access to clean the airfilter/s which, if the bike is to be used off road with any regularity, I suggest you familiarise yourself with this procedure.

In Australia they (Yamaha Australia) have removed the factory paper filter and replaced it with foam sock filters with spring inners to retain shape.

I dont know why this was done or who's idea it was but I comment them.

I much rather clean and oil foam filters than be stuck with unservicable paper ones.

Once the fuel tanks is tilted the top of the airbox can be removed.

Apart from the obvious 8 or 10 screws around the perimeter of the cover there is also one sneaky little screw underneath the rubber bung shown in the pic below.

http://www.waspworks.com/gallery/supertenere/WASPWORKS%20Super%20Tenere%20040710_09.jpg

Of course you new I could not go this far without taking the airbox completely out to see what it looks like underneath.

http://www.waspworks.com/gallery/supertenere/WASPWORKS%20Super%20Tenere%20040710_11.jpg

he pic below shows the factory paper filter and the replacement unit as delivered for Australian spec bikes.

http://www.waspworks.com/gallery/supertenere/WASPWORKS%20Super%20Tenere%20040710_12.jpg

The intake to the airbox is just above the spark plugs (which by the way have really neat little individual coil on caps) so this will give an indication of the possible fording height.

Just saw the ST12 at HL showrm.

HL sales manager info:

First shipment of 5 units are ALL SOLD already.

Second shipment arriving end July.

SGP $30,500 without Insurance.

Additional Cost as bike is without the b/m items:

Side Panniers

Headlight protector cover

Lower Engine Bash Plate.

Crash Bar

Fog lights

I personally think, IMHO the ST12 is priced competitively against the Europeans Adventure Tourers.

More options is great and is always a good thing cos it give us choices.

Cheers & Yammy
