By the way u still riding ur red VFR?! i guess ur FW plater is coming to 5years already.

Oh ya. I think I know who you mean :) We also had an investment talk as I have had with several other indep financial advisors. Think it is better to do it yourself. Lots of high divident stocks out there right now. Rickmers is one I am loading up on now (11% yield but is in US$)

Yeah, still got the Viffer with Ohlins but have it rented out as I got to lay low for a few years due to TP investigation. Riding a Silverwing in the middle lane now. No longer right lane :p

Fully agree with you rstopel.

But thats really becos retail clients get serviced by retail "bankers".

how is your mother in law doing?

Hope she didnt get stuffed

Mother is law sold the bulk of SGX at $9+. She was short of 40K for the condo purchase to had to borrow from my wife and her brother. Served her right, greedy person. Can't really stand her. Wanted to rent out condo for 4.2K which is way over market. Now still empty after 1.5month. So far only offer of 3.4K.

Another brother also same as mother. Loaded up to the max on Ho bee 2 months ago. With margin and told me Ho Bee will hit $6 in a year and that will give him $1m. Think today he should get margin call after a close shave at $1.15 a couple of weeks ago:cheeky:

i never like to mix biking hobbies with investment stuff. Although i'm not an expert in investment & all these stuff like u all, but then i'm not dumb too. Tat IPPFA agent sales pitch/presentation was also very good, but then after sales service follow up was only so so. Very similar to wat the other forum guys mention. No choice have to terminate him.

By the way wat happen to u, dun tell me u got caught for speeding or something:)

By the way throttle u try the soyabean milk at this maxwell hawker centre b4? its beside the famous Fuzhou Osyter Cake stall. It is very highly recommended. Very special taste, duno how they brew it, but very solid :thumb:

IPPFA sales pitch is no other than other sales pitch. They all flash their returns based on the good years (2003/4 to mid 2007). Costs are not mentioned etc. I think IPPFA not as bad as those prudential products. All got huge overhead to pay for. Agents/office/promo material + their shareholders).

Was clocked at night 39 km to fast. Think moto TP not happy he can't drag me to court so he slap me with reckless/dangerous riding, claim I almost lost control twice. Put me in the van, go Ubi. Anyway, think he got no case. Made statement to IO but no news for almost a year. anyway, better lay low for a while. Can't go 80 on a viffer, silverwing no prob:)

cos ur office near maxwell hawker centre, tats y recommend u to go try, u can't find it anywhere else. :thumb:

:btw: i am quite interested in the Kawasaki Versys650, my main concern is the spare parts support dept. where do i go for to order spare parts? I diy alot. Till now i dun dare to purchase a Kawasaki. Cos for yamaha or honda i can easily go to eversuccess or automachinery to give them a list of parts no, & they will just place the order for me, very easy. Once it arrives i would just fix it up myself, never have to headache especially with yamaha.

Maxwell is not that near my office. in fact it is too far to walk without sweating like hell.

This is my third Kawasaki. Generally no problems. want parts just go to Evershine. easily available. just as you described. however cost of parts is higher.

No problem like throttle said. Agent is evershine..most wear & tear parts shld have if not just order and wait. Else can try to get from Malaysia K.L. Sometimes will be very fast. Alternative, go to reputable "kawasaki" mechanics...easily have 3 shops / mechanics. They have means to get for you. Kawasaki Parts are generally slightly dearer than yammie, honda's.

Riding kawasaki is a experience never been before. Kawasaki engines are built like bullet proof if they are showered wif tender loving care & proper maintenance. Trust me, I currently own 2 Kawasaki's !

Below is the bike i'm interested in, Saw a silver colour versys b4 at Vectorone, Very small & compact bike, Looks really fun. Looks kinda versatile, can go sport riding in corners & light off-road, City riding is also ok. fuel tank also huge @ 19litres. Only thing stopping me is the kawasaki poor parts support which have heard.

THE BIG INVESTMENT LIE

What Your Financial Advisor Doesn't Want You to Know

EXCERPTS

The aura versus the facts:

Sauntering through the expensive, glossy outputs of the professional investment field you

may glimpse arcane, sophisticated-sounding articles, suggesting the discourses of an elite

corps of exquisitely-knowledgeable experts. … Yet in spite of the self-serving message

trumpeted both to insiders and outsiders by these arcana—“we insiders are smart and

extraordinarily capable”—the actual fact is that professional investors do not do better than

the random investment picks of a gaggle of monkeys.

An exceptionally successful fee-collecting industry

The success of nearly all prosperous investment professionals consists not in procuring

higher rates of return on investment for their clients, but in procuring astoundingly high

fees from their clients—without the clients taking much notice.

On hedge funds:

I have found that many people are astonished, incredulous, and downright indignant to be

told that hedge funds are a worse investment than a market index fund, or virtually any

common run-of-the-mill mutual fund with low fees. They are indignant because so many

seemingly respectable people they know—not to mention the hedge fund managers

themselves, who are respected only because they have grown incredibly rich—believe that

hedge funds are superior investments. This is an archetypal instance of The Big

Investment Lie in action. People believe it because so many “respectable” people say it is

so.

http://www.bkconnection.com/images/9781576754078L.jpg

  • Proves that the investment industry is selling snake oil--no professional advisor has ever consistently beat market averages
  • Details how the investment industry sells its services using phony statistics and manipulative techniques
  • Shows how any investor can get a good return without throwing money away on advisors
  • Written by an insider with over 30 years experience in the investment industry

The investment advice and management industry is built on fraud: the idea that professional advisors can predictably and consistently help you get a better rate of return on your investments. The industry sells us on this lie using manipulative tactics that are studied, refined, Wall Street minted, and Madison Avenue packaged. And extraordinarily effective. Here, Michael Edesess exposes the shocking truth that, in fact, behind the success of nearly every prosperous investment professional lies not the ability to procure higher rates of return on investment for his or her clients but the ability to procure astoundingly high fees from those clients and nothing more.

Through fascinating and sometimes humorous anecdotes and straightforward explanations of investment theory and scientific evidence, Edesess reveals just how badly investors are being scammed by The Big Investment Lie. He examines how the master salespeople that make up the industry sell their cleverly concocted distortions of truth--to the tune of $200 billion a year--to unsuspecting consumers who swallow them hook, line and sinker. He then shines a spotlight on the true cost of the industry's useless advice, showing that a prudent independent investor, following a conservative strategy, can reap anywhere from 40 percent to over 100 percent more than an investor who falls for The Big Investment Lie. Detailing the Ten New Commandments for Smart Investing--practical advice for how, where, and when to invest your money to maximize wealth--The Big Investment Lie provides the guidance you need to secure your financial future without throwing your hard-earned money away on the fraudulent investment advice industry

What's the "lie" about?

It's not referring to risk taking, or the fact that investments can make reasonable market returns.

It's saying that you can make market returns and do well on your investments in the long run. It's saying that you can do this without trying to beat the market by using superior techniques or advice. [Called the efficient market hypothesis in finance.]

It's trying to say that most people who try to beat the market cannot do so on a consistent basis in the long run, and that the cost of doing so outweighs any benefits (in general).

He who hesitates is lost!
