Sorry, slightly off-topic, but I can't help venting my anger at the gahmen.

Ah Pek, see, just not long before I said the above, now:

ERP rates in CBD to go up, 5 new gantries added

By Asha Popatlal, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 17 June 2008 1925 hrs

SINGAPORE: About half of existing ERP gantries islandwide will see their rates increase from 7 July.

The electronic road pricing (ERP) rates for 32 of 65 gantries will increase by between 50 cents and $2. The gantries are primarily in the Central Business District (CBD) and Orchard Road.

Five new ERP gantries along the Singapore River will also be activated on 7 July.

Traffic in the CBD is slowing down, says the Land Transport Authority (LTA). So in January, as part of its Master Plan, LTA came up with a new way to measure speed.

It is called the 85th percentile method and this is when motorists experience smooth traffic at least 85 percent of the time on roads that have ERP gantries.

Another new LTA initiative is that ERP rate increases will be higher because, LTA says, motorists are less sensitive to the existing rate structure.

Also, ERP operating hours in the CBD will be extended by one hour on weekdays - from 7pm to 8pm - while gantries in the Orchard Road cordon will start an hour earlier on Saturdays, at 11 am.

To reduce congestion further, LTA is putting in five new gantries along the Singapore River.

This essentially divides the CBD into two parts - the predominantly shopping-commercial district around the Bugis-Marina area and the office-based areas in Robinson Road.

LTA hopes that these gantries, which run from Eu Tong Sen Street to Fullerton Road, will cut down on what they call "through traffic".

"The gantries along the Singapore River will deal with traffic passing through. They (motorists using the roads) are not destined for that part of the city but merely passing through to get to other parts of Singapore. If we can discourage some of these trips from city roads, traffic levels on these roads will become better," said LTA's chief engineer for transportation, Dr Chin Kian Keong.

Currently, a third of all traffic in the area is what LTA calls "through traffic" and LTA hopes to cut this by half, with the new ERP gantries.

Five of these gantries will operate from Mondays to Fridays from 6pm to 8pm daily. Two of them will operate in the day on Saturdays.

More changes may be coming up.

In November, LTA will again use its new criteria to review gantry rates within and up to the outer cordon.

And in February next year, LTA will look at all other gantries islandwide.

The question many motorists may have is "why the rate increases now?", considering that there is a freeze on all government fees till the end of the year.

The Transport Ministry says things like the ERP rates are excluded from the freeze and that traffic congestion, left unchecked, will have a negative effect on the economy. - CNA/ir

I think at the next election, I expect to see some changes. Our northern neighbour had already done it, so we should also try it out and see for ourselves.

Bloody gahmen, increase everything on us, take our monies and then invest in those ang mo companies like Merrill Lynch, Citibank, UBS, etc and lose Billions of dollars now.

Wat to do...we live in a cage already. Either live for it or hunger till death if u against it. Thats how they showing it.

We'll see how the future goes...Que Sera Sera...

Guys, after using Petronas petrol for so long, I realized when I change to other petrol like mobil/esso or shell(be it singapore or Malaysia), my bike combustion not very good. But when eat Petronas again, its back to normal.

My other frens encounter the same symptoms on their bikes too. is it the octane & additive inside the fuel?

Actually VerS also got redrev. Motoworld got sell. What I am more intrested in is the theory behind it.

Is the cut activated but sensing speed? or RPM?

Maybe when got time I can go take a look at what your mech do to your bike. :cheeky:

I am running on SPC 92. no problem leh.

Ah Pek, need your expertise again. :cheeky:

I read from the forum that S4 after Project Big 1 all have power restriction.

Do you know anywhere I can find information on how the power/speed/rev is limited and information on how the restriction is removed??

I know it can be done by the shops, but what I am interested in is the theory and method on how our bikes are restricted and how they can be derestricted.

Thanks :cheeky: :cheeky:

I tried searching on the net, but can't find any info.

never really look into it and I think for anyone to openly write about it to tell others as how to do it may be considered a 'crime' to the policy of it.

At Aunty...I ever saw two or three units (for power cut..not sure what they call it..could be redrev..) and if memory serve me well, its for one of the Vtec S4 series. If you buy tha and it comes with instruction for installation...I guess probably we can zero on how it works.

For now my guess is that its making use of speed data or rpm data and this output info is in the form of dc (direct current) level. When a certain current (likely in milliamperes values) level is reached..that's the maxs threshold..I think what it does is that it retard further advance setting. The black small unit plastic thing you find attached to your right side carb with wiring could be an actuator also..that is sensing the higher rate of fuel flow to the inlet port. Its all part of a combination work flow.

I'm just guessing but th bottom line is that..when you do a bypassed..you are having a circuit board that replaces what is in the rpm meter or speedo.

if you have access to a unit...you can affirm that.

All I know is that my speed limit is 160km/h and I cannot go any further. Throttle cannot pull liao lo.. Dunno how you guys can pull to 180,190. Maybe my speed cut comes in early. Haha.

Bro, all S4 should not have problem reaching max of speedo.

But there are many issues affecting top speed, not only engine problem.

Is your sprocket stock size?

Do you have a box installed?

What tire size are you using?

Is your tire pressure correct?

What is the total load on your bike?

What is the RPM when you change gear?

......:giddy:

Do you have a box installed? No. Just removed and tested. Still 160km/h.

What tire size are you using? 120/60. 150/60. Yeah, one size too big. But M1s don't come in 140/70. Hehe. :cheeky:

Is your tire pressure correct? Front 210, Rear 230.

What is the total load on your bike? All 73kg of me.

What is the RPM when you change gear? 4 to 5k.

Yeah.. :giddy: Maybe need the Master Mechanic (MM) or Chief Mechanic (CM) to test ride. Heheh.

>>"valve clearance, do you know what the numbers mean?...show me some numbers:

Before valve clearance: 240243**** someething like that

After valve clearance: 3023102**** you get the picture. Haha.

Basically what is done during valve clearance?"

Its all about Valve clearance..the sitting of valve and the gap necessary for carbon to sit. I think your valve was not grind in this case with regards to the numbers. I should think so he replaced your shims and that has to be done (shim replacement) once overhead camshaft is taken out.

In brief as I can..the size of the new shim has to accomodate your current valve clearance.

If the valve clearance was less than specified, subtract the measured clearance from the specified clearance then deduct the result from the original shim thickness.

For example:

Sample calculation - inlet valve clearance too small

Clearance measured (A) - 0.08 mm Specified clearance (B) -0.16 mm (0.13 to

0.19 mm)

Difference (B - A) - 0.08 mm Shim thickness fitted - 2.475 mm

Correct shim thickness required is 2.475 -0.08 = 2.395 mm

If the required replacement shim is greater than 2.800 mm (the largest available), the valve is probably not seating correctly due to a build-up of carbon deposits and should be checked and cleaned or resurfaced as required.

If the valve clearance was greater then specified, subtract the specified clearance

from the measured clearance, and add the result to the thickness of the original shim.

For example:

Sample calculation - exhaust valve clearance too large

Clearance measured (A) - 0.35 mm Specified clearance (B) - 0.22 mm (0.19 to 0.25 mm)

Difference (A - B) -0.13 mm Shim thickness fitted - 1.975 mm Correct shim thickness required is 1.975 + 0.13 = 2.105 mm

Well...:giddy: is it?...I think you should be bright enough :cheeky: to understand. If you don't...just pay $$$s and feel shiok shiok on your ride lah. Know so much oso know use :)

:dot: Clueless.. Haha. Gonna read up more on combustion engines.

When test for top speed usually we will drag until about 10K to 11K+ rpm. You still can reach 180km/h, but must wait very long to climb to that speed. :D

Go try again at 2nd link and let us know the result. But be careful when doing that. Safety first.

For $150 should be about the price of a second hand tank lah...but my concern is the other rusted area inside. If your patch is working well, why not leave it that way till you can get another better tank instead and save that $150 for the replacement. Your bike sound great and normal..go to aunty and check if they got the power cut thingy for your model lor. The last time I saw the price tag was $150. Someone in my neighbour here did in a mototiam for $250 for his spec 3...not sure is the same product but power cut is power cut lah.

Reaching 190 km.hr for top speed is usual lah but how good your bike is..is the fact that how fast you can hit 190km at the shortest possible time. Caution though..make sure your eo have that extra protection.

Combustion has noting to do with the above, The above is all about movement of mechanical component in sync with each other timing. As far as combustion is consent..pay great attention to what it need really rather than just what it is..I'm referring about getting "Oxygen" in it. You have that..its combustion at its best in performance for teh bike.

Ah Pek, your PB1 has no rev limit. All version after your one has this so call powercut. I can't rev into the red line. I have confirmed it at the 2nd link, but i never try top speed though. Dun see the need. :cheeky:

I think the power cut limits both the speed and rpm. I read from somewhere max speed limited to 180km/h, rpm limited to below 13k.

eh Ah Pek u online!! hahaha sorry to disturb u guys but abt my bike... remember i asked abt coil thingy?

ok here's the story; my bike is a pb1 have been using for 2 years just finished instalment. to make the story short i changed mi batteries to yuasa, top service, radiator, EO and iridium spark all in March 08.

now recently mi rectifier wire just burned out so can't start up mi bike. a shop at eunos changed it to a vtec rectifier(2nd hand) along with its connection wire. at some point still could not start. so mi mech sold me a coil from a scrapped bike (COE died). so after charging mi batt and fixing the coil, i was good to go ...... or so.

unfortunately i sense that mi battery is not charging coz i until not still cannot start up mi bike... sometimes can, sometimes have to push it like motor gp bikes like dat.. haha.. there is this cranking sound when i press the push button but then it will start to "tick" before the dead "silence". but the lights are on.

anywae hope any1 can help me...wat could be the problem here? gd excersice to push bike and start but very inconvenient... thnks u guys...
