cos last weekend went for the S4MG. the guys hav at least half tank left while i am abt to go into reserve. and all pumped full tank before moving off. so its rather disturbing :(

I won't count on that lah..so unreliable basis in comaparison. Seeing thru the fuel tank hole. Drak or not, park same place or not, side stand angle same meh?..may be you on reserve I can say alh. What model of S4 are you comparing? PB1, Vtec 1 and 3..tank all different of height and bloated side.

Anyway..your bike is not his bike and yourself is not any of the other rider...ride same stye or not? What about mileage at destination?..same or not..how many trafy traffic lights were you caught in red?..meaning to say here..this is not an apple and apple comaprison case. Next time go kiosk and pump..use the mileage clocked and divide by your liters pumped.

1st gear > 4.5 to 5.5/6

2nd gear > 5.5 to 10 (sometime skip 2nd gear staright to 3rd gear)

3rd gear > 5.5 to 11+

4th gear > 5.5 to 8/9

When cruise ride..regualrly 6 to 7 b4 power band at 7.5

Never think of fc..before reserve usually around 280 to 310.

got leh, i heard class2 bikes drag first gear up to ard 100 then skip all the gears and go into 6th.

Start off at 2nd gear?...no lah..you have to half clutch to drag the bike to move off...putting a lot of load on the engine...unless you have a Hayabusa engine on your S4. You use 2nd gear only if you have such powerful bike and pop wheelie everytime like those moto-X bike at starting line..you may even have to lean forward to bring the front wheel down. S4 won't do that lah unless you throw out the clutch in a haze.

When you blip your throttle and have a good pick off at first gear and drag all the way 6 and into 2nd gear, there is a momentary aggresive engine braking if your clutching is not smooth enough or timely enough..but if you move straight into 3rd, you avoid that engine lag and power flows more gradual and allow you to drag the bike longer while picking up speed.

And note that what I indicated in previous post is day to day routine for me. In actual power play..drag 1st gear all the way to 10/11krpm and 2nd gear to 10-12 and 3rd gear to 12-13..etc. The idea is to keep your bike at its power band zone..meaning for a PB1/Ver S/R without power cut above 7.5k rpm...for Vtec depending on which series is 6 to 6.5 I think.

Again..sprocket set counts. PB1 does well with 15/42 for longer drag as its works with 16 valves under 6 compare to Vtec which is only 8..Vtec best with 15/44 for the 1st 8 valves under 6k rpm.

Well that's great :cheer: having found your problem to your ride. Not sure if I have mentioned Dunlope "Arrowmax" to you..but till date, I still find its the best for our model..from low corner grip and feel to confidence anticipation behaviour in the wet and last but on least..very lasting and reasonably priced - IMHO.

actually I beg to differ as tyres depends on the how individual riders ride their bikes...like me personally hate Dunlops, find their midcorner grip not as good as certain Bridgestone tyres....so it all depends on the rider technique :cheeky:

And other riders swear by Michelins or Conti or whatever their preferred brands

Very true indeed but Dunlope have many models. Original my came with that particular model. Something I believe it does best for the behaviour when the bike is launched after thorough R&D from Japan as to what comes with.

Bridgestone does just as well but not all are that suitable. One thing I know is that Bridgestone and Dunlope are made for Asian road tarmac and their compound rubber composition are made for our roads..both geographical and our erractic weather here. I'm never into any continental tyres type unless the bike comes original with it. As far as "riding technique" is concern..I have no comment. Anyone who ride an S4 like they ride an electrical bicycle can do as well in any tyres. Put a good rider on..I think he would prefer what comes tested with the bike at its best in handling..from size to rubber compound matter and the bike is design for, in power and handling (sports or cruise).

Ah peh, the ohlins shock got rebound damping bo?

Wah_Lan...Se_Me_Lan oso got. Got two or three dial...see oso blur. Asked I_Ride_A_Bike to come to Tech Ghee Square one nite and we dismantle of of his and put on the table and lets La_Ko_Pee and talk about it leh :D

He has the got the top range one..he asked me..I see oso blur..told him to go read his Ohlin manual. I think can adjust nitrogen air(soft and hardness), spring(rebound rate) and piston height travel..whatever.

But before you go Motor Sporting...let me know..the guy is my school mate lah.

Hi guys, i hope i can get good advice from anyone of u. Currently, im planning to upgrade to class 2a. so been scouting for s4. i dnt think there are many 2a bike that is reliable, efficient like s4. i've noticed in sg,s4 is popular.so s4 is tested n verified suitable in sg roads. Now, im just wondering which ver shld i look into. verS or vtec1 - 3? i was told by my friend, if you wanna get s4,get verS as for the later ver has powercut not verS. is it true? been reading some of the reply here but dnt tink i cnt manage to read all pgs. What's verS got that vtec1-3 dont? pros & cons. One thing for sure, since verS is old model, there will be alot of wear & tear.

Looks good and solid mannn!..one I would probably settle for..no need all the dial..dial...just wondering how many time one would one to play with the dial knobs anyway. The ring clamp spring rebound should be sufficient.

Likely Sporting motor would have it. When I called the other time, was told they got two model..one without all the dial knobs and I guess it could be this model. Cost is about SGD950 to 1.1K. The high end one is about SGD1.6K.

Read about shocks..as long as the length and mounting is compatiable.it can be used. Was recommended the plain (no canister) looking one for CBF750..all chrome..heard its very strong and reliable..seen two S4 quite awhile back with that already.

Don't be too concern about power cut-off..you dont need that top speed as often. Emphasise more on Vtec or Non-Vtec.

IMHO..Vtec is more for the fc conscious. You be running on 8 valves till Vtec open and comes in after 6-6.5 rpm. Non-Vtec is all 16 valves and the power push demand from 1k rpm on to 7.5k rpm is different. However, if you are fc conscious and want a Ver S..you have to dicispline yourself when blipping the throttle..then again..power comes with high fc.

New or old..do a bit of maths and it's all the same. The $s saved for an older one can be use for makeover externally and internally. However, what matter most is the day you make your choice bike..being most important, the internal conditions. How much more you gonna spend further is all about the condition. Get an experience guy or a friend who has a godd S4 to check it out for you. I have seen too many class 2a beginner buying 2nd/3rd...hand bike that's not worth what they have pay for. Don't worry about how old the bike is..what meets and worth your budget is more practical.

Good luck on your choice bike.

Its ok..just take it out and tap_tap to loosen the dust clear off any dried leaves, insect etc...that you may find and put it back. The other thing you can do is get a new one and use it and the old one..if have time..bring to mototiam (when go eo servicing) and use compressed air to blast it.

Yah...no carbs tunning involve..this is only needed when your carbs really got problem internally. Tunning would cost you $40.

Wah Simely73 San..you can read Japanese huh?..everytime go to Janpan one :D ...you read Japanese mei? Looks like a bidding sales side for second hand goods. Careful though..it mentioned about purchase in good condition after money payment when it found to be defective like oil leaking..its your responsiblity.

Yah...looks like it but only I_Ride_A_Bike can confirm as he has it. If memory serve me well...his knobs are black in colour.

Small matter lah. The reserve coolant inside the white plastic container under the right panel cover is too full..properly over the second mark level.

When you ride, the coolant get heated up and under pressure, it expand thru your overflow tube. This is okay lah..it would eventually overflow till the right level. Of course you can open it by removing the rubber cap stopper and siphon some out till it reach the second level.

Btw..it be great that you can "cut & paste" this in the non-vtec thread so that other ppl having this 'problem' would benefit. Take care
