noted. thanks ah pek. erm by the way, i see some brown dried up stain above my carb. i assume something must be rusted leaving the stain behind when mix with the coolant water. am i right to say so?

Sorry Xiaowen...can say more till I look at exactly what it is. could be something you pick up on a wet dirty puddle on the road or whatever..but the material that the carbs are made off won't rush...may be its from your old dirty coolant water or something.

Hi Ah Pek,

Have you heard of Royal Purple engine oil? Thought of trying it on my S4 for my next oil change. Care to comment anyone?

Oh yah....lots of mototiam at one time stock a lot. Heard pretty good about it at that time. But come to think of it that its hardly found today...what went wrong. A friend of mine has been using it initially on his brand new African Twin two three years back said till date..it is still the best he ever use say he..he tried M*xmama and said damn shackadoo! So I think Royal Purple must be good and commonly used by BMW enthusia I heard. But for S4 usage..don't know. I use NTUC cheapo Carlube :p

Yah, I found this dealer selling for S$13/US quart (946cc), but his is the Royal Purple Motor Oil (meant for cars), not the Max-Cycle type (meant for bikes). Anyway, I'm writing to Royal Purple US to ask if their Royal Purple Motor Oil can also be used for bikes with wet-clutch transmission system.

hey guys. my bike just got grounded by ahpek just now. grounded as in, grounding work done on it. heh. oversaw and helped out with the entire process, and here's my immediate (short-term) comment:

i could feel an immediate 'boost' in power with a twist of the throttle. i'm not exaggerating, but then again, i don't know if this is directly because of the grounding, or because of some fuel additive. but thanks to ah pek's tips, i've slightly adjusted my riding habits to better suit to the bike's performance. there have been better response from the bike, and amazingly (i don't know for better or for worse..), i never had to kick up to 6th gear during my journey from AMK to bedok (via hougang) just now. probably due to the heavy hougang traffic.

but anyway, once again, thanks ah pek! worth spending the entire late afternoon with you! lots to learn! see you again!

Thanks wubefrub ;) Glad it all paid off. The additive does boost your performance thru better combuston and a better lube cylinder and down the line after this thank full..you should have cleaner valves and a quieter idling. As for the grounding..you be assure of better sparks from your plugs and beter reliability to your battery (if you got new battery..its even better but don't change yet till its bad..the grounding is always there).

Ride safe and hope you get better fc too.

I managed to locate a seller and he's selling for S$13.00 per US quart (about 946cc).

Tanjong Pagar Plaza, Blk 2, #02-20.

It's an electrical shop (ironically enough). The shop carries almost all of the royal purple products that you can see on their webbie. Only downside, the max-cycle is 10w-30.

Last time i went there was in January this year. And if i remember correctly, a bottle of Max-cycle costs $17.50.

Cheers!

if our bike need to change timming chain and do a valve clearance?

Timing chain (Cam Chain) is very lasting..hardly need to change..the important thing is the chain tensioner. Valve clearance?..bad performance response and engine advance retarding 'effect'...usually goes with shims.

About shims...has been answered..check my post using search. For chain tensioner...you can hear back slash of you cam chain slapping noise in engine block.
