condolences to you family, ah pek.

ah pek, how frequent do we need to change the fork oil?

if i feel that the fork's spring is not absorbing the humps otr, do i need to change the spring/clips too or just the fork oil will do?

Regards,

kifakw

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car

and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.

Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall,

torque is how far you take the wall with you.

The spring never ever need to be replace unless you want to and if you does..go for longer ones.

Yes..changing the fork oil to higher grade does help for old bikes but the highest you can go is 20W (normally 5-10w) and if you can get 15W (which I doubt) is the best. Remember that this should be SINGLE grade ONLY.

If you use the normal fork oil 10W (LAB got) and want better rebound rate from your 'soften' spring..put in at least 450cc (instead of 400cc as what most bike shop does), add a 6363 number bearing (same as axle bearing) to each fork befre screwing in the top cap. For even better flexibility and rebound..go get the spring rebound rate screw fork cap (found in some version S) from spare part shop...last time I asked was $90 a set...can get from Teck Thye I think..may be LAB oso got.

As with frequency for fork oil change..it's a SUBJECTIVE MATTER...as it depend on the routes you use most...some more bumpy then others, rider weight and how often you do hard braking. Best to may be change once every 2 years or so..again, depend on how often you ride your bike. The best to guage this is, when it get too soft and sink in too much when you brake hard everytime or your ride gets too cushy and bouncy.:sian:

Go to Ah Fook only for front fork..tell him 450cc and add the two bearing. Should be $90..not more and bearings the most $16 for the pairs.

For back suspension..go to Teck Thye at Bradell Road No.12..asked for David (same name as you), should be $240..mentioned my name..you get better quality service ..don't let him do front fork..on the expensive side lah unless you wanna donate.

Heading to Mt Kinabalu..not sure I can climb it though..old liao..may be do photography of native live and nature there lah.

Sorry if I posted this here twice.. but this thread like got more activity

I opened up the front sprocket cover to clean the oil+dirt from inside.

When I replaced the cover, found that the chain rubs against the plastic... it goes away if I don't tighten the upper right hand bolt fully. What could I have missed out that would cause this?

Thanks in advance...

My bike is stock! Please don't jio me!

As to how long it takes..very subjective lah. It all comes to how the bike is riden, used and every day traffic changes. Just note that heat robs power and breaks the oil viscoity fast. Libe wise, its very well taken care of..and oso no too bikes are the same..even rider weight. Just don't wack lah..but ride fast if you want to and when the opportunity to do so is right.

Probably the metal 'gasket' spacer (shape of the upper contour linings with three holes for the bolt access) is not place properly or missing.

ah pek, if the ride is not too cushy and bouncy, just that i find the ride very very stiff and it doesn't absorb the small little bumps and potholes OTR. but under hard braking, it does absorb the motion though.

the fork should perform somewhat in the middle? like absorb the humps and potholes now and it isn't too soft at the same time?

is it also time to change the fork oil?

please give your guidance :thumb:
