Before overhaul, I did go 130 km/h with no problem. Going beyond 130 I will have problem - with traffic police. Haha. Never get the chance to do it. But at 130, I didn't feel the bike would give way; felt as if it can still go faster.

Regarding low max speed and poor FC - could be lacking optimal synergy of various mechanical components. For e.g. carb tuning and petrol intake is not set to give optimal output. This will be very technical; one way to find out is to send your bike for dyno tuning. From there the mechanic will be able to advise on the performance of various aspects of the bike, and follw up with specific services accordingly.

Another way is to do a FULL overhaul, if it has never been done to your knowledge. And save time and cost as compared to servicing bits and pieces. After all, Version Ss are really old bikes.

i do not wanna waste money overhaul just for an increase of 10-20km/hr n actually i do not need to go so fast, just feel that if i bought a 400cc bike, my bike shld behave like a 400cc

nowadays a few motordiam seems dun like to do my bike, I went to Planet, Unique n a bike shop in JB to complain that i have problem handling the bike especially in low speed but all just said due to my box, the CG kinda affected n so controlling the bike at low speed is more difficult. Only on 1 occasion when i insist they open up n check on my cone bearing, then they realised my cone bearing old n rusty liao.

Then what's ur top speed before overhaul??? I feel mine underpowered but when asked ah chong to check, he said my engine running ok n advised me against doing anything to the engine or carburetor. I wanted to give a little more power to it as currently the top is only like 130km/h, i heard some ver s r clocking 160km/h almost effortlessly. n my FC is only 20km/l on the avg, at most 22km/l

i know this has been answered a few times but what exactly is the recommended tire size for our ver s? i heard max is 150 for rear but mine is 160

Fuwahhhh. 160? this one i think is normal spec size siol. Our Version S stock is Front - 110 Rear - 140.....

I guess it's all about learning curves. Full overhaul does have its good points and I guess it eradicates the worry part later. How much one is willing to spend is a subjective matter.

When I got my Ver S, my bike knowledge (and about this model) is at ground zero since i was used to abuse and misuse all my previous bikes under my care. Back then, if it doesn't break, I don't fix it. Once broken, I get a replacement. Dun bother so much on the general maintenance aspect of the bikes. From front handling issue, coolant issues, tyre issue, etc, it was my learning curve to know more clearly about how this bike works and what are the possible remedies even though I know I will use this bike for another two or so years. And I'm not game to spend X amount of moolahs to have all issues /non issues fixed. So I learn as I ride it daily and I am enjoying it.

And of course, getting info from this site is an added value. Just my two cents worth.

It's good now for our Ver S. Cause Yamaha FZ-16 same stock size and it's pretty popular on the roads. If got promo for FZ-16 we also can hop in haha.

On a side note, I thought our rear max is 150? How did they fix it in?

Hello, just wanna share what I have done to my ver s. I brought it to ah pek for his eo and also to do grounding cuz I heard that his magic hand is really quite magical. haha. End result, the bike is really smoother, slightly more powerful and FC improved by about 5%.

He is a very knowledgeable and diversified guy. Learnt a lot of things from him. Thanks ah pek! :)

Best is to use the stock size. Bike feels lighter and faster too.. I used to mount 120 and 160 tyres. Prefer the stock size thou

Happened to a friend of mine; version S too. Wear and tear. When u say block, u meant the cylinder head?

Coolant leaking have to check where is the source of the leak. It could be the cracks in the cylinder head, or the worn out coolant reservoir, or rusted the coolant pipes. It's an ancient bike; if never changed or service before, highly likely all this would have been worn out. There could be other reasons; the ones i mentioned are those issues discovered when I overhaul my engine - version S too.

Yr repair gonna cost you alot. Polly u need to do valve clearance and change the block seals and your coolant head gasket blown already.

kylejerrys, u can try contacting Ah Pek. Same thing happened to my bike. Coolant leaking from the 2 holes at the side of the block. Alot of bike shop say gone case, and if repair dunno will leak again or nt. Ah Pek uses a sealant coolant, and so far the block isn't leaking anymore.
