below are things to find out before u decide on which tripod to buy.

 

1. what is the max weight of the whole setup u hv.

the weight of dslr+batt grip + flash+ the longest lens u hv.

there is a max weight a tripod can support.

 

2. how often u use the tripod?

 

for me, a tripod is used not more than 5 times a year.

so i get a decent manfrotto tripod + a ball head.

furthermore, i dont bring tripod during travel.

also i'm not a nature shooter (meaning no money to buy long & big mama lenses) so i dont need a lightweight tripod made of CF (carbon fiber) which cost a bomb.

 

understanding your setup and your shooting style may be able to guide you which one to buy. btw, your budget is definately good enuf to get a decent tripod. anyway, i think i got mine for less than $200, but was few years ago.

if the servicing / repair cost is high, then it makes sense to buy a new one.

its the nikon 18-70mm.. the lense that comes with the body D70. its a good lense.. but the fungus is only a small dot.

 

funny thing, i jus join clubsnap, but when i post about i need help me recommending a shop and how much does the lense cleaning cost, only i person reply. how come they not so helpful ah.. other forum that i'm active in are mostly frenly.. they really help u out.

 

is my question too stoopid that ppl refuse the entertain?

 

one king guy reply saying it cost roughly 50-60n buckz.. but when i go to Centre point Nikon shop, they told me cost 100 plus and up to 300 plus.. paiseh sey.

which shop at center point you gone to?

 

those shop at Orchard rd except Lord is doing tourist business, so their knife is pretty sharp.

dont go there unless you dont mind being chop.

 

it is more advisible to call up Nikon Service center and check with them.

there are few places where u can clean the fungus.

1. P&G in adelphi basement, look for David.

2. the camera hospital (middle rd).

 

check out the 2H (second hand) price of this lens, then ask from the above what is the cost of cleaning. compare and make your decision. if 2H price is cheaper than cleaning, might as well get a 2H one lor.

Your dry cabinet should have an adjustable knob.

 

The recommended range should be btw 45% to 55% IIRC. Mine is btw 45% to 48%. Setting it too low will dry the grease in the moving parts.
