Grace Is The Solution To Wrong Behavior

Imagine that you have a pile of dirty laundry in your living room, and every day the pile grows bigger. The stench from the pile gets stronger and more unbearable as each day passes. Is this a big problem? Well, it depends. As long as your washing machine is working, it will not be a problem for long. No matter how much dirty laundry you have, as long as your washing machine is working, there is still hope. The dirty laundry becomes a problem only if you destroy or get rid of the washing machine. Without a washing machine, the dirty laundry that is piling up certainly becomes a big problem. What are you going to do with all that dirty laundry if you don't have a fully functioning washing machine?

You see, the dirty laundry is "wrong behavior" and the washing machine is "grace." Now, don't get me wrong, we certainly don't want our homes to stink. But if you have wrong behavior, as long as there is grace in the church, grace will teach and give you the power to overcome your wrong behavior. But if there is no grace in the church, or if grace is mixed with the law and nullified, then what hope is there for overcoming your wrong behavior?

Allowing Mixture Perverts The Gospel Of Christ

That is why Paul had to be firm with the Galatians. By allowing grace to be mixed with the law, the Galatians had perverted the gospel of Christ. Paul had preached the gospel of grace to them, but after he left, some Judaisers came and told them lies like, "yes, it is good that you are saved by grace, but it is not enough for you to just have Jesus. You must also know and abide by law of Moses to be pleasing to God." In essence, they were saying, "grace is good, but grace must be balanced with the law." So they talked the Galatians things like the Ten Commandments and told them that they had to be circumcised. Paul's response was to pronounce a double curse on those who preached the false gospel to the Galatians! His tough stance towards those who preached mixture represents the heart of God today.

Frequently Asked Bible Questions

What does the Bible say about law and grace?

Are God's law and His grace really contradictory, as many seem to think? Or do they work together?

How does the Bible describe God's law?

God's commandments show us how to love and are not burdensome (1 John 5:3). The apostle Paul said that love is the fulfillment of the law (Romans 13:9-10). Jesus Christ summarized the whole law as love for God and man (Matthew 22:37-40). Christ also said those seeking eternal life should keep the Ten Commandments and He listed several of them as examples (Matthew 19:17-19).

James called God's law a royal law and a law of liberty (James 2:8, 12). The psalmist loved and meditated on God's law—it gave him wisdom and understanding—it was sweet to him (Psalm 119). The apostle Paul called it holy, just and good and spiritual (Romans 7:12, 14). The heart of the New Covenant is that God's laws will be written on our hearts and minds (Hebrews 10:16).

What happens when we disobey the law?

The Bible calls this sin (1 John 3:4). As obedience brings blessings, disobedience naturally brings curses (Deuteronomy 28). All unhappiness, misery, anguish and woe have come from transgressing God's law. Sin leads to death and, sadly, we have all sinned (Romans 6:23; 3:23). God hates sin so much that He made the penalty for sin death. But He loves us so much He let His Son pay that awesome penalty for us (John 3:16).

What about grace?

Grace is undeserved favor that we receive from God, and it includes the gift of forgiveness. We deeply appreciate God's grace and forgiveness, made possible through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Law and grace are both wonderful gifts of God. Law shows us the wretchedness of our putrid evil sins and points us to repentance and forgiveness through God's grace. Grace leads us to utter appreciation for our holy and merciful God and to a deepening desire to be like Him. How? By doing what He says—obeying His law of love in its full spirit and intent.

Law without grace is like a marriage without love

Grace without law is like cohabite couples without commitment

it's meanless to have one without the other.

Grace and Law upholds one another without contradiction.

a "law man" church will uphold the Law without grace , resulting in a "mean" relationship between G-D and Man

A Church of Grace will uphold grace without Law , resulting in Free flow of sex and love...

but a Church who uphold both will thrive in difficult times....

You Cannot Balance Grace With Law

Do we keep the law to be justified? Paul pronounced the double curse for any other gospel. Many believers do not think that it is a serious matter to have mixture. But our response to the mixture of law and grace should be in alignment with Paul's … He was appalled that the Galatians were mixing law and grace.

In most places today, the problem is not pure law. You will not find pure law in Christian churches. What you will find in many places today is a mixture of law and grace. You will hear teachings that combine the old and new covenants. You will hear things like, "yes, you are saved by grace, but now that you are saved, you had better not take it for granted. You have to start living a holy life by keeping the Ten Commandments." This is called mixture -- you have a little bit of grace and a little bit of law. Many believers think that this--balancing law and grace--is all right. However, the Lord has shown me that what man calls balance, God calls mixture.

My friend, you cannot balance law and grace. Your justification is either entirely a work of His grace or it is by your own works. His grace will be nullified when you add even a little mixture of man's own efforts to be justified. This is serious. God hates mixture.

While most people have no problem with agreeing that they have been saved by grace, they are nevertheless still subjecting themselves to the law. They are depending on the "works of the law" or their obedience to the law to earn, merit, and deserve God's blessing. When they do well in their own estimation, they expect to be blessed. But when they fall short and fail, they heap on themselves guilt and condemnation and expect to be punished.

In the new covenant, God doesn't want us to be blessed when we obey the law and cursed when we fail. Doesn't such a system sound awfully similar to the old covenant? Grace is the undeserved, unmerited, and unearned favor of God -- the moment you try to merit the free favors of God, His grace is nullified. In the new covenant God wants us to be blessed on account of His Son and what He did on the cross. It has nothing to do with our performance or ability to keep the law. Those trying to be justified by their law--keeping still have an old covenant mentality, even if they profess that they are in the new covenant. They have reverted to the old system that was based on works and obedience, rather than trusting in the new system that is based on faith and believing. When there is mixture between the old and new covenants, between the covenant of law and the covenant of grace, you lose both and the benefits of the two covenants are nullified! How do we know this? What is the scriptural basis for this? Let’s look at what Jesus said:

Mark 2:22

"And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins."

What was Jesus referring to when He shared on the new wine and old wineskins? He was referring to the mixture of the two covenants. The new wine represents the new covenant of grace, while the old wineskin represents the old covenant of law. Have you seen old wineskins before? They are brittle, hard, and inflexible. That's the law. It is inflexible. And when you pour the new wine of grace into the old wineskin of the law, you will lose both because the wineskin will be ruined and the wine will be spilled. The virtues of both the old and the new covenants will be cancelled out and lost.

I can't understand why many believers are still trying to balance law and grace. If you are are for the law, be for the law completely. If you are for grace, then be for grace completely. it is impossible to balance the two of them! That is why Jesus also said:

Revelation 3:15-16, KJV

I know thy works, that thou are neither cold nor hot: I would that thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth.

For years, I have heard preachers preaching that in Revelation 3:15-16, Jesus was referring to people who art not "red-hot for Jesus." Have you heard that expression before? And what does being "red-hot for Jesus" mean? Traditionally, we have been taught that it means that you are reading ten chapters of the Bible a day, witnessing to your colleagues and attending every prayer meeting you can find! To be cold means just the opposite -- you stop doing these things entirely.

The verse is always been preached as though it were about our actions and behavior. But Jesus said that He would rather we be cold or hot, and not lukewarm. This wouldn't make sense if he were referring to actions and behavior, because wouldn't being lukewarm for Jesus still be better than being completely cold? So why would He want the church Laodicea to be cold (if they weren't hot)? Come on! I always tell my church this: When you come on Sunday, don't forget to bring your brains along! Don't just take in everything you hear. You have to test the message and make sure that it is consistent with the gospel of Jesus. The gospel simply means " good news." So if what you are hearing is not good news, but instead deposits fear, doubt, judgment, and condemnation in your heart, throw it out, my friend, because it's not the gospel of Jesus.

Be Hot Or Cold, Not Lukewarm

Now, would you like to know what Revelation 3:15 -16 really means? The two verses would make sense only when they are interpreted in the light of the mixture of the covenants of law and grace in the church of Laodicea. The Lord was saying that He would the church be cold -- entirely under law, or hot -- entirely under grace. You see, if you were at least completely under law, it would lead you to despair and into the saving arms of Jesus. The law would unveil to you your sinfulness and inability to keep the full measure of it, and this would cause you to see your need for His grace.

But when you have mixture, where you believe in grace but still hold onto the law, you neutralize the convicting power of the law to bring you to the end of yourself so that you would cry out for the grace of the Savior. That is why you could not be cold and hot at the same time, or be for both law and grace at the same time. The moment you attempt to balance grace with the law, you neutralize both and each covenant is robbed of its full effect in your life. You become lukewarm because of the mixture, and God hates mixture because it robs you of the power to reign in life through the abundance of His grace! You cannot put new wine into old wineskins. You will lose both!

This is exactly what Paul was saying to the Galatians when he explained to them the purpose of the law:

Galatians 3:24-25

Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

The law was our "tutor," or according to the King James Version, our "schoolmaster," to bring us to the end of our own efforts and to Christ. The law is an impossible standard for man to keep. The Pharisees brought the law down to a level where they could keep it. They really thought that their works, their readings of Scriptures, and their loud prayers could justify them. But when Jesus stepped onto the scene, His harshest words -- He called them a "brood of vipers" -- were reserved for these very legalists. He brought the law back to its pristine standard. According to Jesus, once you fantasize about a woman, you are guilty of adultery. Once you are angry with a brother without a cause, you are guilty of murder.

"this is an impossible standard. We will all fail!"

Exactly! Finally, you are getting it. Jesus was showing us the true standard of God's law and holiness. It is impossible for man to keep His law! If you are not for grace, then make sure that you are entirely "cold" -- completely under law. Don't mix law and grace. When you put yourself completely under law, you will find that the law will be your tutor to bring you to the end of yourself. When you finally acknowledge that you cannot save yourself, you will turn to the Savior and His grace will fill your heart. You see, when you think that you can, His hands are tied and He cannot. But when you know that you cannot, that's when HE CAN! Get it?

Can You Save Yourself?

Before a lifeguard attempts to rescue someone who is drowning, he will wait for the person to give up on his efforts to save himself. If the person is still struggling, with his hands flailing and legs kicking everywhere, a well-trained lifeguard will not come close to him because he knows that he will be pulled down and both will drown. So even though the lifeguard wants to save the drowning person, he cannot until the person has exhausted his strength and gives up trying to save himself. Then, the lifeguard immediately grabs hold of him and brings him to safety.

Similarly, when you think that you can still save yourself, God's grace cannot flow. If you mix law and grace, both will "drown" and you will lose BOTH. In other words, the person who is "drowning" must know that he is drowning and that he cannot save himself. (Now, isn't that a deep revelation!) Only when he gives up on his efforts can grace come in and rescue him. Jesus had no effect on the Pharisees precisely because they thought that they were self-sufficient in their law-keeping and saw no need for the Savior. They had no revelation that they were drowning!

Falling From Grace

Paul told the Galatians, "Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace." This is the true definition of "falling from grace." Today, when someone sins, ministers say that the person has "fallen from grace." But Paul never told the Corinthians that they had fallen from grace despite all their sins. To fall from grace then is to fall into the law. Notice that grace is the high ground. When you are under the law, you have fallen from your high ground of grace. In the ark of covenant, the mercy seat is positioned above the Ten Commandments. You fall from grace when you go back to the Ten Commandments.

The law makes everything of man's efforts, while grace gives all the glory to God. That is why Paul told the Galatians that the gospel is not a man-pleasing gospel. He was essentially saying, "if I want to please man, I would be preaching the law." Religious people react when they hear that they can no longer boast in their self-efforts to keep the law. The only people who appreciate grace are those who have come to the end of themselves, to the end of their own efforts to save themselves. They have tried over and over again until they have finally given up and admitted that they cannot meet the law's unyielding standard. That's the time when they are ready to receive God's undeserved favor -- His saving grace.

My friend, we are all against sin, but grace is the power to get out of sin. The more entangled you get with the law, the more the law will stir up sin in you. The law was designed to expose sin. It is sad that many preachers refuse to accept the gospel of grace until they themselves are caught in sin. Only when they find themselves ensnared by sin do they realize that only grace can give them true power over sin. This is what Paul asserted when he said, "for sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace." The good news is, you can embrace the grace of our Lord TODAY and have dominion over sin TODAY.

Beloved, mixing law and grace is dangerous. It will cause you to live in confusion. It will cause you to think that God is sometimes pleased with you, but at other times angry with you. Confusion makes you believe that the same God who can heal you today may also punish you with a disease the next day. Mixture leads to confusion and God is not the author of confusion. But praise be to God, the Gospel Revolution is setting God's people free all around the world.

I see the body of Christ coming out of Babylon. The word "Babylon" means "confusion by mixing," and I see the church coming out of the bondage of mixture and confusion. Hallelujah! The church has been in Babylon for too long, but it is coming out.

My friend, it is time for you to come out of mixture and confusion. Choose either the covenant of grace or the covenant of law. Either you enjoy the blessings of the Lord through His undeserved, unearned, and unmerited favor, or you trust in your own efforts and your own behavior to deserve, earn, and merit favors from the Lord. You cannot hold onto both. I pray that you will choose the first. Come out of Babylon and enjoy the abundance of His grace today!

Chapter 19 - Of the Law of God

1) God gave to Adam a law, as a covenant of works, by which he bound him, and all his posterity, to personal, entire, exact, and perpetual obedience; promised life upon the fulfilling, and threatened death upon the breach of it; and endued him with power and ability to keep it. Ge 1:26,27 2:17 Ro 2:14,15 Ro 10:5 5:12,19 Ga 3:10,12 Ec 7:29 Job 28:28

2) This law, after his fall, continued to be a perfect rule of righteousness; and, as such, was delivered by God upon mount Sinai in ten commandments, and written in two tables; Jas 1:25 2:8,10-12 Ro 13:8-9 De 5:32 10:4 Ex 24:1 the first four commandments containing our duty towards God, and the other six our duty to man. Mt 22:37-40

3) Besides this law, commonly called moral, God was pleased to give to the people of Israel, ceremonial laws containing several typical ordinances; partly of worship, prefiguring Christ, his graces, actions, sufferings, and benefits; Heb 9:1-28 10:1 Ga 4:1-3 Col 2:17 and partly holding forth various instructions of moral duties. 1Co 5:7 2Co 6:17 Jude 1:23 All of these ceremonial laws are now abrogated under the New Testament. Col 2:14,16,17 Da 9:27 Eph 2:15,16

4) To them also, as a political body, he gave various judicial laws, which expired together with the state of that people, not obliging any other now, further than its general equity may require. Ex 22:1-31 22:1-29 Ge 49:10 1Pe 2:13,14 Mt 5:17,38,39 1Co 9:8,9,10

5) The moral law does for ever bind all, as well justified persons as others, to its obedience; Ro 13:8,9 Eph 6:2 1Jo 2:3,4,7,8 and that not only in regard of the matter contained in it, but also in respect of the authority of God, the Creator, who gave it. Jas 2:10,11 Neither does Christ in the gospel any way dissolve, but much strengthen this obligation. Mt 5:17,18,19 Jas 2:8 Ro 3:31

6) Although true believers are not under the law as a covenant of works, to be by it justified or condemned; Ro 6:14 Ga 2:16 3:13 4:4,5 Ac 13:39 Ro 8:1 yet is it of great use to them, as well as to others; in that, as a rule of life, informing them of the will of God and their duty, it directs and binds them to walk accordingly; Ro 7:12,22,25 Ps 119:4,5,6 1Co 7:19 Ga 5:14,16,18-23 discovering also the sinful pollution of their nature, hearts, and lives; Ro 7:7 Ro 3:20 so as, examining themselves by it, they may come to further conviction of, humiliation for, and hatred against sin; Jas 1:23,24,25 Ro 7:9,14,24 together with a clearer sight of the need they have of Christ, and the perfection of his obedience. Ga 3:24 Ro 7:24,25 Ro 8:3,4 It is likewise of use to the regenerate, to restrain their corruptions, in that it forbids sin; Jas 2:11 Ps 119:101,104,128 and the threatening of it serve to show what even their sins deserve, and what afflictions in this life they may expect for them, although freed from its curse threatened in the law. Ezr 9:13,14 Ps 89:30-34 The promises of it, in like manner, show them God's approbation of obedience, and what blessings they may expect upon its performance, Le 26:1-14 2Co 6:16 Eph 6:2,3 Ps 37:11 Mt 5:5 Ps 19:11 although not as due to them by the law as a covenant of works: Ga 2:16 Lu 17:10 so as a man's doing good, and refraining from evil, because the law encourages to the one, and deters from the other, is no evidence of his being under the law, and not under grace. Ro 6:12,14 1Pe 3:8,9,10,11,12 Ps 34:12-16 Heb 12:28

7) Neither are the aforementioned uses of the law contrary to the grace of the gospel, but do sweetly comply with it; Ga 3:21 the Spirit of Christ subduing and enabling the will of man to do that freely and cheerfully which the will of God revealed in the law requires to be done. Eze 36:27 Heb 8:10 Jer 31:33

the clause of the New Covenant :

Heb 8:12 "FOR I WILL BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR INIQUITIES, AND I WILL REMEMBER THEIR SINS NO MORE."

Heb 10:17 "AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE."

This is in force as God is righteous to forget ALL our sins as Jesus took ALL the sins of the world and bore them ... pay for the penalties

Hence, do not listen to mixed "babylonian teaching" that teach that God may remember His Childrens' sins as THIS is negating the finished work of Jesus and mocking at the blood of Christ that was shed 2,000 yrs ago :slapforehead:

One of my favourite song is "The Love of God" by Frederick M. Lehman

[yt]

[/yt]

and the lyrics goes like this:

The love of God is greater far

Than tongue or pen can ever tell;

It goes beyond the highest star,

And reaches to the lowest hell;

The guilty pair, bowed down with care,

God gave His Son to win;

His erring child He reconciled,

And pardoned from his sin.

O love of God, how rich and pure!

How measureless and strong!

It shall forevermore endure

The saints’ and angels’ song.

When years of time shall pass away,

And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,

When men, who here refuse to pray,

On rocks and hills and mountains call,

God’s love so sure, shall still endure,

All measureless and strong;

Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—

The saints’ and angels’ song.

Could we with ink the ocean fill,

And were the skies of parchment made,

Were every stalk on earth a quill,

And every man a scribe by trade,

To write the love of God above,

Would drain the ocean dry.

Nor could the scroll contain the whole,

Though stretched from sky to sky.

It is AWESOME to be immersed in His Agape Love

Transformation By Beholding JESUS

2 Cor 3:18 nkjv

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

this is the christian formula for true transformation; not behaviour modification

5 names of God in Psalm 91

There are 5 names of God revealed in Psalm 91.

Ps 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High [1st name – El Elyon] shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty [2nd name – El Shadai].

Ps 91:2 I will say of the LORD [3rd name – YHVH], [He is] my refuge and my fortress: my God [4th name – Elohim] ; in him will I trust.

Ps 91:16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation [5th name – Yeshua].

We are in the position of Ps 91:1 now because of Jesus Christ.

God gives us long life .. so that we may see more of Yeshua and extol His goodness

Why does God reveal his 5 names in Ps 91 - one may ask ... number 5 is the gematria value for grace :thumb:

As you have probably would have known that the number 7 means perfection or completion ... that is the reason i like the number 35 which has the meaning of 7 times 5 ... which means "perfect grace"

A Puritan Catechism

General Information

Compiled by C. H. Spurgeon

ref http://mb-soft.com/believe/txh/puritcat.htm

I am persuaded that the use of a good Catechism in all our families will be a great safeguard against the increasing errors of the times, and therefore I have compiled this little manual from the Westminster Assembly's and Baptist Catechisms, for the use of my own church and congregation. Those who use it in their families or classes must labour to explain the sense; but the words should be carefully learned by heart, for they will be understood better as years pass. May the Lord bless my dear friends and their families evermore, is the prayer of their loving Pastor.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

Published about Oct 14, 1855, when Spurgeon was 21 years old. On Oct. 14, Spurgeon preached Sermon No. 46 to several thousand who gathered to hear him at New Park Street Chapel. When the sermon was published it contained an announcement of this catechism. The text that morning was, "Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations." Psalm 90:1.

Question 1 What is the chief end of man?

Answer 1 Man's chief end is to glorify God, (1Cor. 10:31) and to enjoy him for ever. (Psalms 73:25,26)

Question 2 What rule has God given to direct us how we may glorify him?

Answer 2 The Word of God which is contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments (Ephesians 2:20; 2Timothy 3:16) is the only rule to direct us how we may glorify God and enjoy him. (1John 1:3)

Question 3 What do the Scriptures principally teach?

Answer 3 The Scriptures principally teach what man is to believe concerning God, and what duty God requires of man. (2Timothy 1:13; Eccles. 12:13)

Question 4 What is God?

Answer 4 God is Spirit, (John 4:24) infinite, (Job 11:7) eternal, (Psalms 90:2; 1Timothy 1:17) and unchangeable (James 1:17) in his being, (Exodus 3:14) wisdom, power, (Psalms 147:5) holiness, (Revelation 4:8) justice, goodness and truth. (Exodus 34:6,7)

Question 5 Are there more Gods than one?

Answer 5 There is but one only, (Deuteronomy 6:4) the living and true God. (Jeremiah 10:10)

Question 6 How many persons are there in the Godhead?

Answer 6 There are three persons in the Godhead, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one God, the same in essence, equal in power and glory. (1John 5:7; Matthew 28:19)

Question 7

What are the decrees of God?

Answer 7

The decrees of God are his eternal purpose according to the counsel of his own will, whereby for his own glory he has foreordained whatever comes to pass. (Ephesians 1:11,12)

Question 8

How does God execute his decrees?

Answer 8

God executes his decrees in the works of creation, (Revelation 4:11) and providence. (Daniel 4:35)

Question 9

What is the work of creation?

Answer 9

The work of creation is God's making all things (Genesis 1:1) of nothing, by the Word of his power, (Hebrews 11:3) in six normal consecutive days, (Exodus 20:11) and all very good. (Genesis 1:31)

Question 10

How did God create man?

Answer 10

Question 11

What are God's works of providence?

Answer 11

God's works of providence are his most holy, (Psalms 145:17) wise, (Isaiah 28:29) and powerful, (Hebrews 1:3) preserving and governing all his creatures, and all their actions. (Psalms 103:19; Matthew 10:29)

Question 12

What special act of providence did God exercise toward man in the state wherein he was created?

Answer 12

When God had created man, he entered into a covenant of life with him, upon condition of perfect obedience; (Galatians 3:12) forbidding him to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, upon pain of death. (Genesis 2:17)

Question 13

Did our first parents continue in the state wherein they were created?

Answer 13

Our first parents being left to the freedom of their own will, fell from the state wherein they were created, by sinning against God, (Ecclesiastes 7:29) by eating the forbidden fruit. (Genesis 3:6-8)

Question 14

What is sin?

Answer 14

Sin is any want of conformity to, or transgression of the law of God. (1John 3:4)

Question 15

Did all mankind fall in Adam's first transgression?

Answer 15

The covenant being made with Adam, not only for himself but for his posterity, all mankind descending from him by ordinary generation, sinned in him, and fell with him in his first transgression. (1Corinthians 15:22; Romans 5:12)

Question 16

Into what estate did the fall bring mankind?

Answer 16

The fall brought mankind into a state of sin and misery. (Romans 5:18)

Question 17

Wherein consists the sinfulness of that state whereinto man fell?

Answer 17

The sinfulness of that state whereinto man fell, consists in the guilt of Adam's first sin, (Romans 5:19) the want of original righteousness, (Romans 3:10) and the corruption of his whole nature, which is commonly called original sin, (Ephesians 2:1; Psalms 51:5) together with all actual transgressions which proceed from it. (Matthew 15:19)

Question 18

What is the misery of that state whereinto man fell?

Answer 18

All mankind, by their fall, lost communion with God, (Genesis 3:8,24) are under his wrath and curse, (Ephesians 2:3; Galatians 3:10) and so made liable to all the miseries in this life, to death itself, and to the pains of hell for ever. (Romans 6:23; Matthew 25:41)

Question 19

Did God leave all mankind to perish in the state of sin and misery?

Answer 19

God having, out of his good pleasure from all eternity, elected some to everlasting life, (2Thessalonians 2:13) did enter into a covenant of grace to deliver them out of the state of sin and misery, and to bring them into a state of salvation by a Redeemer. (Romans 5:21)

Question 20

Who is the Redeemer of God's elect?

Answer 20

The only Redeemer of God's elect is the Lord Jesus Christ, (1Timothy 2:5) who being the eternal Son of God, became man, (John 1:14) and so was and continues to be God and man, in two distinct natures and one person for ever. (1Timothy 3:16; Colossians 2:9)

This is My Body, This is My Blood

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e9/Matzos.jpg

The matzah bread is the unleavened bread; with no yeast - representing Christ as having no sin. Its appearance is striped, bruised, pierced - and if you held a piece up to the light, you can see light coming through the piercings in the bread.

Red wine and grape juice would be a good choice for communion drink.

Does one have to be dogma in using these elements in communion? No, I don’t believe so … it should not be a legalistic issue.

We need to use visual imagery in conjunction with Jesus’ words; This is My Body, This is My Blood? The matzah bread is for the Passover. The matzah bread is a visual picture of Christ’s body. The red wine, is a visual of His blood. When He said these words, Jesus held up the visual elements (bread and wine) and asks us to visualize them as His body and His blood.

Mark 14:22 While they were eating, He took {some} bread, and after a blessing He broke {it,} and gave {it} to them, and said, "Take {it;} this is My body."

Mark 14:23 And when He had taken a cup {and} given thanks, He gave {it} to them, and they all drank from it.

Mark 14:24 And He said to them, "This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.

We, humans are very visual creatures, and it is a lot easier for us to remember things when they are “attached” to visual images. Christ knew this very well, and so, taught His disciples what He wanted them to “eat Jesus’s flesh and drink Jesus’s blood” in remembrance of Him, and when we partake the elements we are reminded of His Sacrifice for us .. to set us free .. to redeem us .. we will be so filled with His Love and our hearts so grateful.

Christ sinless body was crushed for us and His blood spilled for us … by part-taking the bread with this revelation … we are taking the communion in a worthy manner.

1 Cor 11:27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.

1 Cor 11:28 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

1 Cor 11:29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly.

1 Cor 11:30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep.

Hence, we can expect the reverse of weak and sick, and a number sleep (aka die young) when we partake of the communion with revelation … we will be STRONG, HEALTHY & LIVE LONG.

Answer 21

Christ, the son of God, became man by taking to himself a true body, (Hebrews 2:14) and a reasonable soul, (Matthew 26:38; Hebrews 4:15) being conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit in the Virgin Mary, and born of her, (Luke 1:31,35) yet without sin. (Hebrews 7:26)

Question 23

How does Christ execute the office of a prophet?

Answer 23

Christ executes the office of a prophet, in revealing to us, (John 1:18) by his Word, (John 20:31) and Spirit, (John 14:26) the will of God for our salvation.

Question 24

How does Christ execute the office of a priest?

Answer 24

Christ executes the office of a priest, in his once offering up himself a sacrifice to satisfy divine justice, (Hebrews 9:28) and to reconcile us to God, (Hebrews 2:17) and in making continual intercession for us. (Hebrews 7:25)

Question 25

How does Christ execute the office of a king?

Answer 25

Christ executes the office of a king in subduing us to himself, (Psalms 110:3) in ruling and defending us, (Matthew 2:6; 1Corinthians 15:25) and in restraining and conquering all his and our enemies.

Question 26

Wherein did Christ's humiliation consist?

Answer 26

Christ's humiliation consisted in his being born, and that in a low condition, (Luke 2:7) made under the law, (Galatians 4:4) undergoing the miseries of this life, the wrath of God, (Matthew 27:46) and the cursed death of the cross; (Philippians 2:8) in being buried, and continuing under the power of death for a time. (Matthew 12:40)

Question 27

Wherein consists Christ's exaltation?

Answer 27

Christ's exaltation consists in his rising again from the dead on the third day, (1Corinthians 15:4) in ascending up into heaven, and sitting at the right hand of God the Father, (Mark 16:19) and in coming to judge the world at the last day. (Acts 17:31)

Question 28

How are we made partakers of the redemption purchased by Christ?

Answer 28

We are made partakers of the redemption purchased by Christ, by the effectual application of it to us (John 1:12) by his Holy Spirit. (Titus 3:5,6)

Question 29

How does the Spirit apply to us the redemption purchased by Christ?

Answer 29

The Spirit applies to us the redemption purchased by Christ, by working faith in us, (Ephesians 2:8) and by it uniting us to Christ in our effectual calling. (Ephesians 3:17)

Question 30

What is effectual calling?

Answer 30

Effectual calling is the work of God's Spirit (2Timothy 1:9) whereby, convincing us of our sin and misery, (Acts 2:37) enlightening our minds in the knowledge of Christ, (Acts 26:18) and renewing our wills, (Ezekiel 36:26) he does persuade and enable us to embrace Jesus Christ freely offered to us in the gospel. (John 6:44,45)

(Job 19:26)

Question 37

What benefits do believers receive from Christ at the resurrection?

Answer 37

At the resurrection, believers being raised up in glory, (1Corinthians 15:43) shall be openly acknowledged and acquitted in the day of judgment, (Matthew 10:32) and made perfectly blessed both in soul and body in the full enjoying of God (1 John 3:2) to all eternity. (1Thessalonians 4:17)
