2 Cor 12:7 Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me--to keep me from exalting myself!

Paul was NOT having physical illness lah :sian:

a thorn in the flesh is a messenger of Satan which are the Judaisers who oppose Paul's message of grace ... that is why when one preaches the message of grace like Paul does ... persecution from the law man guys will come

let the bible interpret the bible ... in Num 33:55 ... the LORD spoke to Moses asking them to drive out the inhabitants of the land ... if not they will become thorns and pricks :faint:

Num 33:55 'But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall come about that those whom you let remain of them {will become} as pricks in your eyes and as thorns in your sides, and they will trouble you in the land in which you live.

the healing anointing was on Paul and he heals ...

Acts 28:8 And it happened that the father of Publius was lying {in bed} afflicted with {recurrent} fever and dysentery; and Paul went in {to see} him and after he had prayed, he laid his hands on him and healed him.

From the head of Paul to his feet ... every inch of Paul was full of health ... even the evil realm fears Paul

Acts 19:15 And the evil spirit answered and said to them, "I recognize Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?"

First and foremost, one has to come to the knowledge that Jesus is Grace-personified.

John 1:17b grace and truth subsists through Jesus Christ.

Is Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross cheap ??? Salvation is free but never cheap.

The only thing that can stop God’s sight is Jesus’s blood ... remember the Passover (Ex 12:13) :cheeky:

Rom 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

Just like some of the brothers in Corinthian Church who are deep in sinful actions like prostitution … Paul did not use words like “brood of vipers” to warn them.

Paul reminded these adulterous brothers ... of their identity in Christ.

1 Cor 6:19 Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own,

1 Cor 6:20 You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God {and} bring glory to Him in your body.

However, Paul is strong in his words against the Galatian Church who mixes the covenant of grace with the law and Paul by the Holy Spirit pronounces a double curse on those that preaches “rojak gospel”

I submit to you that the main reason why Christians are steep in sinful actions is due to lack of understanding of how much they have been forgiven.

Luke 7:47 Therefore I tell you, her sins, many [as they are], are forgiven her--because she has loved much. But he who is forgiven little loves little.

In a nutshell, it is not for a Christian to solely focuse on “who we are”; we should always focuse on “whose we are”

Hebrews 12:2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

1 John 4:17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.

Transformation By Beholding JESUS

2 Cor 3:18 nkjv

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

this is the christian formula for true transformation; not behaviour modification

ooi don't any old how boom hor

ref http://preachalways.tripod.com/template667128.htm

The church fathers agreed that Paul's thorn was a disease. God gave Paul a disease so that he would not get puffed up in pride. Paul called this his thorn in the flesh. We know it wasn't a spiritual thing because Paul specifically said that this thorn was "in the flesh." This was what he meant when he said that he preached in Galatia because of an illness, which he plainly said in

Galatians 4:13. We can safely assume that this was a painful eye disease, because Paul talked about what an awful trial was in his flesh (Gal 4:14) and that the Galatians would have plucked their eyes out and given them to him (Gal 4:16). This disease ruined Paul's vision so that he had to write in big letters (Gal 6:11). In fact, he had Tertius write down Romans for him (Rom 16:22)! His outer man was truly perishing (2 Cor 4:16). No wonder Paul took a doctor (Luke) with him (Acts 20:6, 20:13, etc., Col 4:14)!

His bodily presence was weak (2 Cor 10:10). Paul begged God three times to take away this disease, but God told Paul that he was better off being sick, because God's strength is made perfect in our weakness (2 Cor 12:9). Moreover, the Greek word used for weakness in this verse is the same word translated sickness in John 11:4, diseases in Acts 28:9, and infirmity or infirmities meaning sickness in Matthew 8:17 (that verse so often quoted by faith-maniacs), Luke 5:15, Luke 8:2, Luke 13:11, Luke 13:12, John 5:5, and one of my favorite verses, 1 Tim 5:23!

So we know that Paul meant sickness. Sickness is even on Paul's list of sufferings in 2 Cor 11:23-27, despite what the faith teachers say. Paul listed painfulness as one of his afflictions!

Having studied Greek extensively in seminary, I know that one of the leading Greek lexicons says that the term "messenger of Satan" can be used figuratively of an illness.

Then Paul said that he would glory in this sickness so that the power of Christ might rest upon him (2 Cor 12:9). Furthermore, he even said that he took pleasure in being sick (2 Cor 12:10).

You can plainly see that Paul could not plainly see. If the great apostle Paul took pleasure in his sickness, so should you. When God chooses not to remove your sickness, you should rejoice in your weakness, knowing that you are strong in God. God will give you "sufficient grace" (2 Cor 12:9) to deal with your illness, and you can even, with Paul, take pleasure in your sickness.

Question 66

Are all transgressions of the law equally heinous?

Answer 66

Some sins in themselves, and by reason of various aggravations, are more heinous in the sight of God than others. (John 19:11; 1John 5:15)

Question 67

What does every sin deserve?

Answer 67

Every sin deserves God's wrath and curse, both in this life and that which is to come. (Ephesians 5:6; Psalms 11:6)

Question 68

How may we escape his wrath and curse due to us for sin?

Answer 68

To escape the wrath and curse of God due to us for sin, we must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, (John 3:16) trusting alone to his blood and righteousness. This faith is attended by repentance for the past (Acts 20:21) and leads to holiness in the future.

Question 69

What is faith in Jesus Christ?

Answer 69

Faith in Jesus Christ is a saving grace, (Hebrews 10:39) whereby we receive, (John 1:12) and rest upon him alone for salvation, (Philippians 3:9) as he is set forth in the gospel. (Isaiah 33:22)

Question 70

What is repentance to life?

Answer 70

Repentance to life is a saving grace, (Acts 11:18) whereby a sinner, out of a true sense of his sins, (Acts 2:37) and apprehension of the mercy of God in Christ, (Joel 2:13) does with grief and hatred of his sin turn from it to God, (Jeremiah 31:18,19) with full purpose to strive after new obedience. (Psalms 119:59)

Question 71

What are the outward means whereby the Holy Spirit communicates to us the benefits of redemption?

Answer 71

The outward and ordinary means whereby the Holy Spirit communicates to us the benefits of Christ's redemption, are the Word, by which souls are begotten to spiritual life; Baptism, the Lord's Supper, Prayer, and Meditation, by all which believers are further edified in their most holy faith. (Acts 2:41,42; James 1:18)

Question 72

How is the Word made effectual to salvation?

Answer 72

The Spirit of God makes the reading, but especially the preaching of the Word, an effectual means of convicting and converting sinners, (Psalms 19:7) and of building them up in holiness and comfort (1Thessalonians 1:6) through faith to salvation. (Romans 1:16)

Question 73

How is the Word to be read and heard that it may become effectual to salvation?

Answer 73

That the Word may become effectual to salvation, we must attend to it with diligence, (Proverbs 8:34) preparation, (1Peter 2:1,2) and prayer, (Psalms 119:18) receive it with faith, (Hebrews 4:2) and love, (2Thessalonians 2:10) lay it up into our hearts, (Psalms 119:11) and practise it in our lives. (James 1:25)

They conveniently miss

Gal 4:13-15

13 Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first.

14 And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

15 Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.

gal 6:11 Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand.

I believe in the truth of what the bible says lor, can you "see" ?

it's so simple let the bible speak for itself about paul...

a repented mass murderer saul was reborn as Paul appointed by the Lord Jesus to be an apostle of the Gentile doing miralces and healing for the purpose of G-d own glory.

and as often as not he always prevent hero worshiping when ppl tries to make him more than he should be....so much so the adversary the satan would sent temptation to stumble him....

but G-d himself provide a sure-win technique to prevent Paul from be too proud by giving him some form of physical impetement so paul had no choice but to relie on G-d so that

2cor 12: 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Question 74

How do Baptism and the Lord's Supper become spiritually helpful?

Answer 74

Baptism and the Lord's Supper become spiritually helpful, not from any virtue in them, or in him who does administer them, (1Corinthians 3:7; 1Peter 3:21) but only by the blessing of Christ, (1Corinthians 3:6) and the working of the Spirit in those who by faith receive them. (1Corinthians 12:13)

Question 75

What is Baptism?

Answer 75

Baptism is an ordinance of the New Testament, instituted by Jesus Christ, (Matthew 28:19) to be to the person baptised a sign of his fellowship with him, in his death, and burial, and resurrection, (Romans 6:3; Colossians 2:12) of his being ingrafted into him,(Galatians 3:27) of remission of sins, (Mark 1:4; Acts 22:16) and of his giving up himself to God through Jesus Christ, to live and walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4,5)

Question 76

To whom is Baptism to be administered?

Answer 76

Baptism is to be administered to all those who actually profess repentance towards God, (Acts 2:38; Matthew 3:6; Mark 16:16; Acts 8:12,36,37; Acts 10:47,48) and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and to none other.

Question 77

Are the infants of such as are professing to be baptised?

Answer 77

The infants of such as are professing believers are not to be baptised, because there is neither command nor example in the Holy Scriptures for their baptism. (Exodus 23:13; Proverbs 30:6)

Question 78

How is baptism rightly administered?

Answer 78

Baptism is rightly administered by immersion, or dipping the whole body of the person in water, (Matthew 3:16; John 3:23) in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, according to Christ's institution, and the practice of the apostles, (Matthew 28:19,20) and not by sprinkling or pouring of water, or dipping some part of the body, after the tradition of men. (John 4:1,2; Acts 8:38,39)

Question 79

What is the duty of such as are rightly baptized?

Answer 79

It is the duty of such as are rightly baptized, to give up themselves to some particular and orderly Church of Jesus Christ, (Acts 2:47; Acts 9:26; 1Peter 2:5) that they may walk in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. (Luke 1:6)

Question 80

What is the Lord's Supper?

Answer 80

The Lord's Supper is an ordinance of the New Testament, instituted by Jesus Christ; wherein, by giving and receiving bread and wine, according to his appointment, his death is shown forth, (1Corinthians 11:23-26) and the worthy receivers are, not after a corporeal and carnal manner, but by faith, made partakers of his body and blood, with all his benefits, to their spiritual nourishment, and growth in grace. (1Corinthians 10:16)

Question 81

What is required to the worthy receiving of the Lord's Supper?

Answer 81

It is required of them who would worthily partake of the Lord's Supper, that they examine themselves of their knowledge to discern the Lord's body, (1Corinthians 11:28,29) of their faith to feed upon him, (2Corinthians 13:5) of their repentance, (1Corinthians 11:31) love, (1Corinthians 11:18-20) and new obedience, (1Corinthians 5:8) lest coming unworthily, they eat and drink judgment to themselves. (1Corinthians 11:27-29)

Question 82

What is meant by the words, "until he come," which are used by the apostle Paul in reference to the Lord's Supper?

Answer 82

They plainly teach us that our Lord Jesus Christ will come a second time; which is the joy and hope of all believers. (Acts 1:11; 1Thessalonians 4:16)

so some cannot grasp them lah ... :giddy:

here is a website that supports that Paul was NOT having physical illness ... truth or tradition ... u choose what you like to believe lor :D

Gal 4:19 My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you - NKJV

Gal 4:19 My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you - NIV

Gal 4:19My little children, for whom I am again suffering birth pangs until Christ is completely and permanently formed (molded) within you, - Amplified

And God even make Paul pregnant. :)

Galatians 4:12 gave a clue of what Paul's 'physical infirmities' means.

Amplified bible called it 'bodily ailment'

NIV call it 'an illness'

NKJV call it 'physical infirmity'

Holman Christian Standard call it 'physical weakness'

The Message bible calls it 'physically broken'

Do not forget that Paul was not well received in some parts of Asia when he preaches the Gospel. He receives a fair bit of persecution.

ACTS 9:9 ...

Maybe you better quote the first few verses.

Act 9:69 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.

Jesus did not make Saul blind, and same goes to the two who were on the road to Emmaus or even Mary for that matter.

Think about it, the veil of Saul's eyes was finally removed to see the true Jesus. Similarly, a prisoner of war who is kept in the dark dungeon will will blinded by the brightness of the sun. What more the Light of Jesus when the veil was finally removed for a man such as Saul who was at that time under the bondage of the Law?

Mord score 1 point... EddyMeng, so how does one answer Gal 4:13-15 ??

The above typify 2 Timothy 2 - striving about words to no profit.

and 2 Timothy 3 - always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

The truth is all about Jesus. Not God the Father give ppl diseases (which is doubtful), or God give ppl trials to 'teach' His children about humility and such. Jesus says that He is the Truth, The Light and the Way. One should strive to learn about that rather then proving whose interpretation is better.

This is NOT abt scoring pts :cheeky:

it is about what we actually believe.

Sickness and Death were NEVER intended when God made the 1st man - Adam.

That is why in heaven there is NO sickness and disease … because God has none to give

We are living in a fallen world where sickness and disease; which is actually DEATH began …. However, we are in this world … but are called out aka set apart from the curses of this world.

if you can see the "will of God" aka Jesus when he walks on earth 2,000 yrs ago ... you will find Him healing and providing. :thumb:

Dun have a warp mentality of God because of traditional interpretation. :cheeky:

Abt Gal 4:13-15 …. Read the following verse to see the context

Gal 4:16 Have I then become your enemy by telling the truth to you {and} dealing sincerely with you?

when Saul 1st encounter Jesus..wasnt he made blind? thus dat affliction was reali physical and not spiritual rite?

ACTS 9:9 ...

2cor 12: 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

the word "infirmities" here is

G769 ἀσθένεια astheneia (as-then'-ei-ah) n.

1. feebleness (of mind or body)

2. (by implication) malady

3. (morally) frailty

because one has a preconceive mindset, they will translate infirmities, as sickness or disease.

Kindly note that the original text says other wise - “feebleness of mind or body” … like what I would say now

“ I am tired of all this no sense teaching”

for those that insist that Paul's thorn in the flesh is sickness hor ... you are a "thorn in the xxx" for me o_O

get the point ... it is metaphor of speech :cheeky:

The creeds are old-fashioned.

All God's truth is ancient. C.H. Spurgeon said:

"There shall be no new God, nor new devil, nor shall we ever have a new saviour, nor a new atonement. Why then should we be attracted by the error and nonsense which everywhere plead for a hearing because they are new? To suppose the Theology can be new is to imagine that the Lord himself is of yesterday. A doctrine lately true must of necessity be false. Falsehood has no beard, but truth is hoary with age immeasurable. The old Gospel is the only Gospel. Pity is our only feeling toward those young preachers who cry: `See my new Theology!' in just the same spirit as little Mary says: `See my pretty new frock!'"

God's truth does not change any more than he can change. Paul said in Hebrews 13:8, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and for ever." Spurgeon commenting on this verse said this.

Chapter 1 - Of the Holy Scriptures

1) The Holy Scripture is the only sufficient, certain, and infallible rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience. 2Ti 3:15-17 Isa 8:20 Lu 16:29,31 Eph 2:20. Although the light of nature and the works of creation and providence show the goodness, wisdom, and power of God, as to leave man inexcusable; Ro 2:14,15 1:19,20 Ps 19:1-3 Ro 1:32 2:1. yet they are not sufficient to give that knowledge of God and his will necessary to salvation. 1Co 1:21 2:13,14.

Therefore it pleased the Lord at various times, and in different ways, to reveal himself, and to declare his will to his Church; Heb 1:1, and afterward, for the better preserving and the propagating of the truth, and for the more sure establishment and comfort of the Church against the corruption of the flesh, and the malice of Satan, and of the world, the Lord committed this revelation wholly to writing; Pr 22:19-21 Lu 1:3,4 Ro 15:4 Mt 4:4,7,10 Isa 8:19,20, which makes the Holy Scriptures to be the most necessary, 2Ti 3:15 2Pe 1:19, since those former ways of God's revealing his will to his people have now ceased. Heb 1:1,2 1Co 13:9,10 Pr 30:6 Re 22:18,19.

2) Under the name of Holy Scripture, or the written Word of God; are now contained all the books of the Old and New Testament, which are these.

Of the Old Testament

Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi

Of the New Testament

Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, Jude, Revelation

All these books are given by inspiration of God, Lu 16:29,31 Eph 2:20 Re 22:18,19 2Ti 3:16, to be the only rule of faith and life.
