Last Supper is growing by Biblical proportions

[Gallery staff carry a Bulgarian painting, inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci's masterpiece ] Gallery staff carry a Bulgarian painting, inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci's masterpiece "The Last Supper", to hang it on the wall of a gallery in Sofia in May 2007. In a computer-assisted studies of 52 paintings of the Last Supper, a paid of US academics found that, over a 1,000 year period, the portions of food placed before Jesus and his disciples grew astonishingly.

PARIS (AFP) - – A pair of US academics have analysed 52 of the most famous paintings of the Last Supper painted between 1000 and 2000 -- and discovered that, over that period, the portions of food placed before Jesus and his disciples grew astonishingly.

Using computer-aided design technology, they scanned the main dish, bread and plates and calculated the size of portion relative to the size of the average head in the painting.

Over a thousand years, the size of the main dish progressively grew by 69.2 per cent, plate size by 65.6 percent and bread size by 23.1 percent, they found.

The growing size reflects the success of agriculture over the ages, the researchers said.

"The last thousand years have witnessed dramatic increases in the production, availability, safety, abundance and affordability of food," said Brian Wansink, a professor of marketing and applied economics at Cornell University.

"We think that as art imitates life, these changes have been reflected in paintings of history's most famous dinner."

The study, published in Britain's International Journal of Obesity, is co-authored by Wansink's brother, Craig, a Presbyterian minister and professor of religious studies at Virginia Wesleyan College.

The Bible makes no mention of what was eaten at the Last Supper. But the main dishes depicted in the paintings contained fish or eel (18 percent), lamb (14 percent) and pork (seven percent).

Romans 11:29 For the gifts and the calling of God is irrevocable.

John 1:17 For while the Law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ

Matt 5:17 (The Amplified Bible) Do not think that I have come to do away with {or} undo the Law or the Prophets; I have come not to do away with {or} undo but to complete {and} fulfill them.

Matt 5:17 (NASB) "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.

In both translations, we can clearly see that “Christ came to fulfill the Law”. Hence, while he was walking on earth, He HAS to abide by the Law and live a sinless life. Then die @ the cross as the PERFECT LAMB to take away the sins of the world.

Illustration:

When I purchase my house from HDB, I loan from them.

Upon fulfilling the last installment, the house is mine and I do not need to pay for it anymore.

Matt 5:18 (The Amplified Bible) For truly I tell you, until the sky and earth pass away {and} perish, not one smallest letter nor one little hook [identifying certain Hebrew letters] will pass from the Law until all things [it foreshadows] are accomplished.

The ORIGINAL text in the bible will NOT pass away. The passage tells us that the smallest letter or even one little hook in certain Hebrew letters will not perish. THERE IS NO insignificance details in the HIS WORD.

Did your bible studies consists of identifying Hebrew letters and understanding the meaning of the original text.

For example, many know Jesus as the “beginning and the end”, the “Alpha and Omega”

However, if you are to see in the Hebrew text …… you will open yourself to a new realm and see the Bible in a BIGGER perspective.

Hebrew is: Aleph Tav, which you can find Jesus even in the Genesis 1:1 !!!

Heb 8:10 "FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MINDS, AND I WILL WRITE THEM ON THEIR HEARTS. AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.

Heb 10:16 "THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEART, AND ON THEIR MIND I WILL WRITE THEM," {He then says,}

Heb 10:17 He then goes on to say, And their sins and their lawbreaking I will remember no more.

Heb 10:18 Now where there is absolute remission (forgiveness and cancellation of the penalty) of these [sins and lawbreaking], there is no longer any offering made to atone for sin.

Heb 10:19 Therefore, brethren, since we have full freedom {and} confidence to enter into the [Holy of] Holies [by the power and virtue] in the blood of Jesus,

Heb 10:20 By this fresh (new) and living way which He initiated {and} dedicated {and} opened for us through the separating curtain (veil of the Holy of Holies), that is, through His flesh,

John 14:26 But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you.

We are in the NEW COVENANT and live under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will guide us (NOT the law). However, this is for us, God’s children – who has the Holy Spirit that is IN us.

God wants men to live by Grace. However, men chose law over grace.

Well, the 10 commandments stem from the “Tree of Good and Evil”.

God always wanted His children to live by the “Tree of Life”, which is by the Holy Spirit aka Jesus Unlimited.

All religions were birth from “Tree of Good and Evil” and they teach to do GOOD and shun evil …… which sounds good. BUT remember Satan is always hanging around the “Tree of Good and Evil”.

1 Cor 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin ; is the law ;

As a Beloved Child of God, I do not have a carnal mind …. but the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16).

With my mind filled with Christ, to commit adultery is NOT even in my mind and the Holy Spirit will at times prompt me to buy her favorite food/ things for my beloved wife

So you see for those that are in Christ (God's GRACE), we do things that supercede the requirements of the Law.

I choose to live by the “Tree of Life”

Shalom,

Eddy

9:21 To them that are without the law - The heathens. As without the law - Neglecting its ceremonies. Being not without the law to God - But as much as ever under its moral precepts. Under the law to Christ - And in this sense all Christians will be under the law for ever.

We are all quite familiar with what faith is. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 However, not everyone knows how faith operates. While the world muses their way of “seeing is believing”; we, on the other hand, believe without seeing because of our faith. Throughout the New Testament of the Bible, believers are urged to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Cor 5:7) and live by faith (Heb 10:38). We also know that our faith comes and increases by hearing the message of Good News about Jesus Christ (Rom 10:17).

But how do we activate our faith? How do we live and walk by faith in practice?

It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak , 2 Corinthians 4:13

By believing and speaking! You see, faith is our divine hope (Heb11:1), and how to put that faith in gear is by believing and speaking. Believing is a choice and decision; to accept what God is speaking about Himself, about us and our lives with His Word. Our faith is not established upon ourselves but upon the Word of God. Faith is not passive but pro-active, if we allow it to rise up within us. And by speaking, we bring the power of God from the spiritual realm into the physical realm. Speaking is the fruit of believing, when you believe strongly enough, you will act and speak out physically. The tongue can bring death or life (Proverbs 18:21). And when we speak out in faith, God will keep His promise to intervene.

Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. Mark 11:22-24

Faith energizes love. By faith, hope is generated. And God’s love is the foundation of our faith. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1Cor 3:7

Even if nothing seems to happen, stay in faith patiently. God in His Word said:” through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. Heb 6:12“ Patience is the power of being constant, stable, calm and persistent; backs faith up when faith gets attacked.

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. Romans 10:9-10

We are made right with Almighty God by simply believing in our hearts and confessing with our mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord; that is how faith operates. So it is not enough to just think about your “mountains”, not enough to just ask people to pray for you, it is not enough to just lament to God and it is also not enough to just meekly pray half-heartedly. It is time to step out with the Word of God, believing in our hearts and declaring with our mouths the blessings God has pronounced in our lives through Jesus Christ!

aith without Works Is Dead

14 ¶ What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

16 and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

18 ¶ Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.

19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Gen. 22.1-14

22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which saith,

Abraham believed God,

and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: Gen. 15.6

and he was called the Friend of God. 2 Chr. 20.7 · Is. 41.8

24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? Josh. 2.1-21

26 For as the body without the spirit 1 is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

What piang ye ...."law man" verse :faint:

Again ... quoting as if the book of James was written for us :dozed:

James 1:1 JAMES, A servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes scattered abroad

Pls note that James, Peter and John are apostles to the Jews. (Galatians 2:9)

I do certainly enjoy and benefit from the Book of James .... with the correct understand of "to whom it was written for", who is James - the author that wrote the book of James

James’ background as a Pharisee appears, from the book of Acts and the writings of Paul, to have influenced his thinking during the very early years of the church. During this early period of Christianity, when the Christian community was almost entirely Jewish, the biggest controversy in the church was whether non-Jews could become “Christians” without also becoming Jews.

This is exactly what Martin Luther wrestled with. He concluded that the writings of James were anti-Paul, and thought that James should be dropped from the Bible altogether. :(

Hence, quoting James without understanding of who James was and the audience to whom the book was written for, the Spirit behind why the book of James was written for ... is beri "law man" :cheeky:

That is why i say that our marching orders are found only in the letters of Paul (Romans thru Philemon), and not in the Old or New Testaments lor :)

That itself can be classified as "dispensation" or "rightly dividing the Word" or "correctly analyzing the Word" ... whatever you like to label it lah

so correct lah dispensationlist dispense with the bible selective choose what that's is benificial tio boh? say so lah chay......

My belief system is this, the Whole bible is for us ....

in 2:tim 3:16

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Rom 16:22 (New test endorsing old test)

25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,

26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

27 To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen. {Written to the Romans from Corinthus, and sent by Phebe servant of the church at Cenchrea.}

as for reconciling them ......when asked :

I cannot explain why was it like that, but it was said like that , so when i see G-d while dinning with Jesus...I will asked him.....

But I will not , by the grace of G-d , Dispense the Bible and say definately that's not for us , but rather :

I cannot explain why was it like that, but it was said like that so when i see him i asked him.:cheeky:

Super-sizing the "Last Supper"

Reuters - Wednesday, March 24

http://l.yimg.com/a/i/ww/news/2010/03/23/032310supper.jpg

NEW YORK - We've been overeating our way through ever-larger portions over the past 1,000 years, a U.S. study revealed after studying more than 50 paintings of the Biblical Last Supper.

The study, by a Cornell University professor and his brother who is a Presbyterian minister and a religious studies professor, showed that the sizes of the portions and plates in the artworks, which were painted over the past millennium, have gradually grown by between 23 and 69 percent.

This finding suggests that the phenomenon of serving bigger portions on bigger plates, which pushes people to overeat, has also occurred gradually over the same time period, said Brian Wansink, director of the Cornell Food and Brand Lab.

"The last thousand years have witnessed dramatic increases in the production, availability, safety, abundance and affordability of food," Wansink, author of "Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think," said in a statement.

"We think that as art imitates life, these changes have been reflected in paintings of history's most famous dinner."

The researchers analyzed 52 paintings depicting the Last Supper which were featured in the 2000 book "Last Supper" by Phaidon Press, and used computer-aided design technology to analyze the size of the main meals, or entrees, bread and the plates relative to the average size of the disciples' heads.

The study found that, over the past 1,000 years, the size of the main meal has progressively grown 69 percent; plate size has increased 66 percent and bread size by about 23 percent.

The research, conducted with Wansink's brother, Craig Wansink, a professor of religious studies at Virginia Wesleyan College, was published in the April edition of The International Journal of Obesity.

My belief system is this, the Whole bible is for us ....

in 2:tim 3:16

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

All scripture are God breathed ... written for us. However, not all the contents are addressed to us.

e.g - if someone in Singapore says that "all male aged 18 will need to go for National Service"

If someone from other nationality hears that and wish to follow; does that make that person a "Singaporean" ?

Have heard preachers that do not have the revelation of "rightly dividing the Word" ... preaching a different gospel that what Paul preach.

According to the bible:

Gal 1:8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!

Gal 1:9 As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!

there is a double curse for anyone that preaches a different gospel that what Paul preach.

i prefer to listen to preaching that teaches "Paul's gospel"

which to me is THE gospel for this era - Church Age.

13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

"law man "

wOw quote from Proverbs 13:13 ... why dun you go built an ark since there is a specific instructions in Gen 6:14~16 :cheeky:

Gen 6:14 Make yourself an ark of gopher {or} cypress wood; make in {it} rooms (stalls, pens, coops, nests, cages, and compartments) and cover it inside and out with pitch (bitumen).

Gen 6:15 And this is the way you are to make it: the length of the ark shall be 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits [that is, 450 ft. x 75 ft. x 45 ft.].

Gen 6:16 You shall make a roof or window [a place for light] for the ark and finish it to a cubit [at least 18 inches] above--and the door of the ark you shall put in the side of it; and you shall make it with lower, second, and third stories.

What the Bible says about Noah's ark is realistic and consistent with modern shipbuilding practice.

Both Peter and Paul taught that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, that he was crucified, and that he rose from the dead on the third day. So one might ask, "What is the difference between their two gospels?"

Paul spoke to Gentiles and Jews whereas; Peter spoke to Israel only, with the one exception to the house of Cornelius.

A second key difference is that in making the offer of the kingdom to Israel, Peter spoke of the resurrection in order to show that the Lord was alive and could still return to be Israel's King (Acts 3:19-21). Christ's death and resurrection, the sign of Jonah, were stated as evidence. However, Peter was not proclaiming them as part of the gospel of the kingdom. But Paul taught the that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are essential parts of our gospel of grace.

A third difference is that Paul taught that Jesus Christ died as a sacrifice for our sins, and that we are cleansed by His blood. But in all of his sermons in the early chapters of Acts, Peter made no mention of this.

When the destruction of the city Jerusalem and the temple came in 70 AD, the kingdom dispensation for Israel was put on hold, until it resumes in the future tribulation. But the grace doctrine for Jew and Gentile alike found in Paul's letters of Romans-Philemon are directly applicable for the church today.

your link hor ... shows a squarish rectangular boat; which to me is not storm-worthy :cheeky:

my finding on what i believed to be the real Noah's ark is boat shaped

WOW! Even a box shaped sampan can withstand the storm for so long. God is truly magnificent. Hmmm... reminds me of this

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.

Amen.

Actually Paul was telling Timothy to go back to the BASICS. Also that is why Jesus send the Holy Spirit to guide us. The Bible is indeed for us and us only, it is for the Holy Spirit to teach us the multi facade of the beauty of Jesus and how the plan is like. Not for us to use it against others nor for us to teach another.
