well the best is to pay the opc coupon.

maybe they can not detect maybe they did not detect .

but once they do get you , you are going to pay dearly.

$20 per day or go court .

which is better??

absolutely agreed.

The Singaporean car owner?

1. Owner scrimps on parking, collects countless of parking fines far exceeding the season parking. Tries to outsmart the parking warden by parking around and folding coupons, those that last merely an hour with a dollar, forging coupons ending up in court.

2. Owner scrimps on OPC coupon and tries to evade detection by pulling various stunts ends up being caught one day unaware. Ends up paying hefty fine.

3. Owner tries to avoid the expensive ERP, wakes up early, leaves work late inconvenience his lifestyle so much that he misses the other aspect of life.

4. Owner fools around with the fuel gauge to go to Malaysia for petrol at 50%gets caught and faces jail.

5. Owner realises all these are not worthwhile, sells the car and ride a bike.

When you save without consequences, you are thrifty. When you save while undertaking risks to dire cosequences, you are stingy and to a certain extend foolish.

OPC cars are more dependent on your lifestyles. For some, due to their work, it makes sense to get an OPC because

1) they need to get to work early anyway (and by doing so during the wee hours, they save more time by not waiting on the road during morning jams)

2) for similar reasons, they work long hours and thus tend to go back after the evening rush hours

3) they work 5 day work weeks and stay/work near the MRTs so public transport is equally accessible for them.

4) they have families and need a car during weekend to chaffeur all the entire family for the outing. You can't do that with a bike nor can you go transport heavy things.

For these people, I would say YES, OPCs are for them.

For those whom wanted a car very much but decided a black plate cost too much, I think its better that they endure a bit longer, save the money and buy a black plate car. If not, the inconveniences are not worth it for that $17K!, with all the restricted hours and forget to buy coupon etc

Having a car is about convenience? If I go to several places, I'll rather ride than drive -- due to parking.

I'm all for double/triple the parking rates.

In places like Tokyo and Taiwan, the parking can really kill. A good 4-5 times more if I remembered correctly. But I hoped you are wrong on the SG parking rates. :)

Like some of you, 2 weeks ago, on a Friday, it was raining, thus I decided to drive my OPC car instead of ride. Then, Saturday night, almost 12am, I was in bed, about to sleep when my wife suddenly came up to me and said, "Did you purchase the E-coupon?" *POP*

Couldn't sleep suddenly!

Got out, rode to the nearest AXS station, then when I wanted to purchase, it stated that after 12am, cannot access LTA website (or something to that effect)

Bo bian, had to go LTA on Monday morning. However, when I reached the counter, I was turned away. The counter staff told me to go home, wait for letter.

I was like, wtf? I know that I made an honest mistake, but I was trying to redeem myself by paying, and I get turned away? Then what? Wait for letter which entails a huge fine? *grumbles*

Anyone like that?

Drive : Proton Saga 1.3M SJN plate (11th June 10 - Present)

Ride : Honda S4 Revo FBC plate (12th July 08 - Present)

Former Ride : Phantom TA200 FV plate (9th September 05 - 12th July 08)

But its troublesome. The use first pay later is convenient..but sometimes too convenient until one can forget. Then by the time they realized it..BOOMZ!

Hi Gerald, may i ask your help on this..going thru same predictament.

need pointers when appealing.

Kinda have a valid reason i think..but any help matters.

Thank you & appreciate it.

Hi Gerald,

You're lucky. I wrote in to own up and ended up getting fined $200. The worst thing, it appears that they do not have record of the offence and even ask me for the time that I drive the car....I paid for 2 days and forgot abt the 3rd day during reservist...

Due to the fact that many people tend to forget and then try to redeem themselves the day after, the authorities feel that its the easy way out. the govt always do things such that either you pay dearly or you really really won't make it happen the next time round. if everyone pay the next day, so whats the fine for? they let us save thousands of dollars on car purchases..so take the responsibility to do it the right way.

having a opc car depends on the individual's lifestyle like mentioned above..and a good compliment would be a bike. if frequently NEED to use car, then get a normal plate one.
