and u cnt layup for more than 3yrs i tink, else bike will be de-registered.

den once u get licence, muz send bike for inspection. go buy insurance, den proceed to LTA buy roadtax.

Don't buy and lay up. no point.

1. Everyday will go see if anything missing.

2. Prone to theft cause bike is park at the same lot all the time.

3. Theft of bike not covered.

4. Waste money to lay up.

Ride Safe.

I bought a bike before I passed my TP practical test. Here are the steps:

  1. Buy the bike
  2. Buy season parking, if required
  3. Send lay up request to LTA, valid for a year and renewable annually
  4. Refund any existing road tax paid up during lay up period
  5. OPTIONAL: Buy third-party, fire and theft insurance so if you bike get set on fire/stolen during lay out, it's covered. You do not need to be a licensed rider to have insurance coverage. I didn't do this though, cause I didn't want to waste money.

When you want to get the bike off lay up, after you get your license, follow these steps:

  1. Remove lay up status with LTA
  2. Tow bike to VICOM/STA for inspection
  3. Buy road tax
  4. Buy insurance
  5. Buy and put P-plate, if required
  6. Ride safe, only after you have valid road tax, inspection certificates, license, P-plates (if required) and insurance.

Hopefully I didn't miss anything out. All the best for TP!

Save the trouble and time to just focus on getting your licence first. You might think that you are making it easier to get a bike first while in actual fact, you're just making it more troublesome. Why make your life difficult?

Lay up very cheap one lah, $5++ only.

But very sian part is the parking. Pay for nothing.

i find towing and inspection fee even more sian...

can buy the bike without license... but be warned it is a very leceh thing...

even stationary bike needs to be taken care of

needs to be moved around now and then to prevent infestation

needs u to clear the rubbish accumulated around it

needs to be started regularly to charge the battery

needs to have enough petrol...

need to bring the bike to shop if anything goes wrong...

if u cannot ride the bike out, all these become very leceh

so i would advise u nt to layup

get a non-rider insurance for the bike, and add a rider friend as sub-rider. get him to help u to ride the bike out.

but in that case u will have to pay insurance for nothing

boring rider. with a boring bike.

too old to want to appear interesting anymore.

correct to wat all the bros advises... why in a hurry to get the bike? the bike u gonna buy is tat good meh until u rushing like tat to buy... dun worry... u can find better bikes out there....

buying now wont make things better... i tink u got more regret than happiness after u bought the bike...

it is better u pass already than happy2 go scouting for the bike...can come here and read and ask more bout the bike u interested in... can save up a bit more or noe ur budget than buy... like tat more peace of mind...

Buy a bike w/o licence can. But can u resist the temptation to try it "juz ard the carpark"? Dun come bak crying lik a lil gurl wen police caught u or u langga lamppost, k?

i did the same thing.

When transfering of ownership at lta just inform the counter staff that u wanna do a lay up. u will have to give them details abt where u gonna park etc.. got charge of 5 dollars for a year if im not wrong. get a canvas and cover tightly if u dun intend to buy season parking. i managed to get away w/o summon for almost 2mth.

u will have to tow the bike to your place unless de seller is kind enough to ride to ur carpark.

not worth it in my opinion. cos more money involved. when u pass and wanna un-lay de bike, gotta tow again, send for inspection, road tax. and very sian one. can see cant ride. i managed to resist the temptation thou. hahaha.
