Vara -

Big presence on road, since it's an adventure bike chassis.

Problem is, it is 125cc, for such a big chassis. Got to rev a lot to get anywhere. Hi compression 125cc engines, such as on the Honda VT125 can deliver quite a high horsepower figure but the RPMs are excessive, leading to high fuel consumption as well as increases maintenence costs.

Adventure bikes really need a bigger engine! (think, V-Strom)

Pulsar -

It's electronically controlled engine is quite punchy at low revs, and very fuel efficient. Although, you will only get the long range capability while riding like Ah Pek. It's not exactly a good "performance" bike but it's decent for its class.

The downside is that spare parts wise, common Japanese brands are better and cheaper, Bajaj only came into the local market less than a decade ago.

Fancy advertising aside, in terms of real world riding there's no real benefit from the Pulsar 180/200cc engines, over Japanese motors with similar cc.

Last night a Pulsar 200 and I (Phantom 200) did a drag race from the bottom of the hill to the top of a hill and both bikes had exactly the same amount of torque :p Economy wise the elderly Phantom ain't no slouch either at 38-40km/l, considering I have huge boxes on the back.

This link will give a pretty good insight.

It mentioned that it share some of the parts from translap 600.

Vara 125cc seems to look more like a 350cc bike of the olden days. The size is really big and chunky.

After market vara parts is not cheap. they are mostly european brands.

other than that. It's up to individaul.

Just a very personal view. Both bike ride by the same rider. I won't be surprised that the Vara 125 will last longer. It's a honda after all.
