Hi Guys,

Hope you're all well. I used to post here ages ago but can't remember the last time I logged in LOL.

My boyfriend and I are looking to come back to Singapore/malaysia at the end of this year, and looking to do a few track days in Sepang and the PG circuit.

Couple of quick questions:

1. Do they hire track bikes to people who have no bikes? (Mark rides a KTM 990 Superduke and I ride a VTR1000F in Sydney, but we're not bringing our bikes to Malaysia obviously).

2. How much for bike hires?

3. Gear requirements - Mark and I have full race leathers, gloves, boots, helmets etc that we use in Australia, but not looking to bring them over for the holiday. Are there places we can hire gear?

Cost isn't really that much of an issue for us as long as the bill doesn't run too much into the thousands, we just need the gear and bikes. Can someone please advise?

Many thanks,

Ruth

HI...if i could assist...I never heard abt any bikeshop renting bikes here in Singapore and Malaysia for Class 2 bikes (400cc and above) due to the insurance policy here. Only those 200cc and below and it is also use by companies for their workers despatch job.

Hope my answer helps u. So i guess u got to find friends here to lend u their bike but for track purpose and not use on roads coz its a Court Case offence for riding w/o insurance coverage in Singapore and Malaysia....

Hi Ruth & Mark,

Wow quite a challenge you are setting yourself. It sounds like you are coming over for a holidy not to reside, so it might be difficult to secure a bike, I hope the link on the above message helps you secure a bike, but I have not heard of anyone renting bikes out to thrash around a track in this area.

Getting track time in Sepang is also a challenge, however if you are coming in December there are 2 well organised track days occuring on the weekends of 17&18th and 24&25th December. The first by Revclub and the second by GoPro. Revclub are a great bunch of guys who secure private track seesions and get 60 like minded folk together to have 2 great days at the track. GoPro are a company that run a track day and training program that seems very professional. Both have links and threads =in this section and you should message them to get a place or find out more about the track weekends (they are great).

Getting a bike may be tricky, but maybe GoPro may be able to assist. If you both just want to do track days, them maybe you should share 1 bike, which will halve the problem for you or finding a ride. Thinking left filed, you may be able to do a deal in advance with a bike shop in Singapore to buy a bike and sell it back at an agreed rate and they would do what is called a COI or name you as a rider but keep the bike in the shops name. If you dont crash it they may buy it back for say a 1000 less, plus tyres, or something like that. Loois is a big shop and has a fleet of race bikes (CBR600RR / Blades) so they might be a good first point of call as Looi is an ex racer. Another option as it will be the end of the race seaosn is maybe one of thre race teams might rent a bike to you, again Loois or Gopro might assist or guide you.

Hope this helps, however it might be easier to go to Philip Island for a track weekend.. Eastern Creek isnt too shabby either....that way you can just holiday here like tourists rather than Tourist Trophy.....

Guys thanks heaps for the info, I'll check it out. Geez! It looks like it's going to be a struggle to borrow bikes but I'll look into it.

Ozzy - I've done Eastern Creek track days before and Superbike School. Also done Oran Park before it was demolished.

I want to do Sepang and PG if possible because we're bike nuts and would love to try out the tracks for what they are :) Thanks for the comprehensive info though.

Why the hell is it so hard to rent bikes there anyway? They have them all the time here in Aust.

Not that Looi. THE Fabian Looi used to run Gerry Looi Motors out in Simei, but he's retired already. Loois Motor in Kaki Bukit is run by Mr Lee Yoon Kong. I've known Mr Lee since 1977, and to the best of my knowledge, he has never raced.

Do you think there are track bike rental outfits in Australia because you actually have tracks there? :)

Like I said, try Barry at Raceline for Sepang outings. And good luck.

Ok thanks for clearing that up, I am an expat here and just going off what I had seen and heard, on the revclub trackdays, sometimes there are about 5 bikes from the Looi race team. I had heard of Looi the racer but he is obviously not Looi the bike shop, never mind, still a good place the check out, as is Barry for Sepang.

However you do it, just do it, Sepang is a great track well worth the effort to get on it. As for PG, its like a big Lakeside / Amaroo. Still great fun and convenient from Singapore and cheap..but zero safety support ala Sepang.

Good Luck!

Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback.

I've tried emailing and calling a few Malaysian firms and Singaporean dudes and dudettes as well to no avail. Looks like it's not gonna be a goer this time around.

Sucks to be us. :sian:

Ah well, sheet happens. Some other time :)
