Switchbacks chronicles the journey of three motorbikers as they make their way from Singapore to Cambodia over 7 days to raise funds for charity.

Filmmakers Harry Chew and Nina Chabra, both 29, follow three members of newly initiated charity, The Tiger Foundation, on their adrenalin-pumped adventure to raise funds for an ailing primary school in a small Cambodian town.

The humanitarian bike journey, with its euphorias and difficulties, becomes a rite of passage for the 3 motorcycle fanatics, and for a 90-yr old Khmer man who survived the Pol Pot regime, the means for a lifelong wish fulfilled.

The documentary traces the journey by New Zealander Mark Philpott, president and founder of The Tiger Foundation, to raise more than US$30,000 to build and stock a library at Aknuwat Primary School in Cambodia. He was joined by Englishmen Paul Mullins, a DHL Senior Vice President and devoted motorcycle rider, and Trevor Thorley, like Paul an ardent motorcycle enthusiast since a young age, inspired to join the team by the very nature of the challenge.

On April 18, the men set off on a winding, often inhospitable route from Singapore, reaching their final destination in Kampong Thom, Cambodia, on April 25.

Switchbacks won the ‘Best Documentary’ award at the British Film Guild’s Newport International Film Festival 2009 and the Platinum Remy Award under the category of film and video awards (travel/tourism) at WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival 2010.

Switchbacks (2009) was directed by documentary filmmaker Harry Chew and produced in conjunction with Humaneity Television and The Tiger Foundation.
