Need to check, is it normal that the you cannot see any EO thru the glass at the engine when it is on the mainstand? I dont see any EO thru it. Scared my EO drop. Have yet to change it since take over from previous owner. But clutch and engine is still smooth even when i went JB to refuel.

Well it depends on whether the engine is running or not while on the mainstand.

You should not see EO while the engine is running on mainstand, as it will be circulating throughout.

But turn off the engine, the oil level should be right between the upper and lower inspection line.

with engine just just off, you wunt see it when on main stand.

wait for prob 20 mins later, it shoul be vsisble (my is half)

over night till next next morning, my is at 3/4.

I usually get the desired amt by using over night as a guage. How I determine this volume.. is by constant trial and error so that

1. it is not too low

2. air box does not get oil from the exhaust outlet which feed back into the airbox. Took me many months to find out.

Also check level once a week (thats if your comfy with the frequency).

hello...so where u all nomarlly service yr bike?

I go to stanford at AMK auto point level 5. Alex is a very knowledable guy when it comes to VFR and other big bikes. Problem is he is alone and he does not depend on servicing bikes and I think his wife does not want him to work too hard so he is not that fast. I never leave my bike there cos he probably will not touch it much. He will help you and tell you how to DIY and you can do the servicing there on the spot if you willing to take off the fairing yourself etc..

Oh, and he has one of the best EO in sg... Castrol Syntium @ $25 a litre. Not cheap but very good.

For those who want to test their unlimit patient, can try there.

Anyway does anyone knows where to get Castrol Syntex SAE5W/50 fully syn EO beside Stanford?

Hey Jovan, pump tires when it is cold. The psi is about right to me.

Hey Rick, you making me drool over the exhaust. Dont know if I told you guys before but I talk to the guy at the shop regarding the exhaust installment plan. He says we can but will only give us the exhaust once installment fully paid or thru visa/MC but no 20% disc. Order takes about 2-4weeks.

By the way, final check my EO level. Left the bike over nite and it slightly above half. and the EO is quite clean. Got one more question for all. What brand of EO you guys use?(Except for Rstopel). Been using Castrol R4 for my previous bike. Now after reading about Castrol fully synethic oil are not exactly fully-synethic from the forum, I just wander if I am paying for a fully syn EO but not gettin the kind of protection.

Got this from stsoh post:

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forum/index....ic=48346&st=240

extracted article dated back in 2001:

=======================

In fact, the Castrol Syntec isn't even a 100% pure synthetic. That's right...read on........

CASTROL AND MOBIL GO TO COURT TO BATTLE IT OUT:

Mobil accused Castrol of reformulating its synthetic by substituting other basestocks in place of its synthetic polyaphaolefins (PAO's). Castrol Syntec is a hydrocracked oil. That's right, Castrol has replaced the PAO synthetic base stock with hydroisomerized petroleum base stock. Hydrocracking, as it's called, is the highest level of petroleum refining. Castrol isn't even a true synthetic yet Castrol ended up winning the battle when the National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus ruled that Castrol could still market its oil as "synthetic" despite their new formulation. Basically, they expanded the definition of synthetics to include Group III hydroprocessed petroleum oil. This high profile case took place because synthetics are recognized as the market's best hope for growth. Synthetic oil sales have outpaced petroleum oil sales by a wide margin and the gap continues to widen every year. Consumers are getting smarter and demand the best for their vehicles! Read the full story on the Castrol debacle in our informative articles section. Additionally, just as soon as Castrol won this battle, several other major oil companies jumped in and came up with hydroprocessed motor oils of their own and labeled these products to be "100% synthetic", when they still are primarily Group III hydroprocessed petroleum oils!

W is the "visc unit" used in the oil market. It is NOT the actual SI units. Something like 100cm = 1metre. In short, the W is just another scale line. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)has established crankcase oil SAE grades based on centistoke viscosity units measured at 100 degrees (212 F), and centipoise viscosity units measured at the prescribed temperature below 0 degrees (32 F). So for a 5W50, the 50 is at former temp, and the 5W is at the latter temp.

5W is thin.. but to how thin it all depends on

1. make of bike

2. type of riding

3. conditions of weather and traffic

A thicker or thinner oil has it pros & cons

1. better revving

2. better protection

3. cooler engine temp.. TAKE NOTE NOT COOLANT TEMP

4. breakdown rate

5. etc etc etc

Your temp is healthy as 70 ~90 is a well working temp zone.

I have tried 5W oils on different bikes and it is much better based on what the bike is used for.

Personally i tried 3 different oils on my VFR, and 3 oils for the R1. After close inspection of the oil by different mileages of drainage I decided on the oil i am using though.

As for DIY EO, Me or my other fren (whose EO change is due) might be doing it sometime this mth. probably I'll try to put it online time & place. But it might be very last mion as it is always not pre-planned with my fren (we change at his house)

Its a simple quick hr job (coz we ride there n have to wait the eng to cool down). Tools you need

1. 17" socket

2. wrench

3. extender (long)

4. EO cap

5. container

6. funnel

7. about 2.8L of EO (with filter change at wam eng), 3L for a 1 week untouched eng

8. many many newspaper

As for tire press, i am on 250kpa(36psi) front & 290kpa(42psi) rear on normal road riding. Hard agressive corners ain''t much of a feedback. So dunt play when I put them at that kinda spec. On the track, i run 32~33psi front & 35~36psi rear. Good feeback grippy. But kills the rubber fast.

Welcome to the club! Viffers here are all friendly and helpful. Drop me a ring if you have any queries related to the VFR. It would be a pleasure to help another viffer. Cheers man... enjoy the ride....

PS : browse through this thread. There many infos on DIY, bike pheniomena, things encounter and so on in here. just i cannot remember where i put them in!

Hi everyone,

Got a prob with my bike's cooling sys... Hope can explain clearly over the forum...

Basically since I forgot to top up my coolant water the last time and caused my coolant level to run low, this problem has persisted.

This is the phenomenon(symtoms) that I encounter:

When I'm riding, even when my bike is on the move, w/o much traffic in front of me, the bike temp keeps going up... At certain temps, esp between 98-104, the temp sometimes go this way, 98-99-100-98-99-100-98-99-100... It keeps going like this if traffic in front of me is clear... If there's traffic, it'll keep going up by also in similar behaviour... 102-103-104-103-104-105-104-105-106... This symtom seems to go away whenever I top up the reserve coolant tank. But whenever, I'm toping up coolant into the reserve, the coolant just keep overflowing out...

Anyone encountered this before? I've read something abt the coolant valve or something like that being jam...

Was adviced to flush coolant but has got no time to do it but will give it a try. Does anyone know the location of the screw that I have to take out which is near the oil filter? I only know the one near the gear lever...

Pls help... Feels irritating to keep watching the temp meter when I'm riding...

mav... the starting prob IS with batt. Your batt is not able to discharge the peak current anymore.

as for temp prob.

1. check all your hoses for leak

2. check press cap for seal

As for the 2nd screw(8mm) it is located at the front 2 cylyinder block below the spark plug coils.
