Got someone to bring a humidor back from the US next month, and currently storing them in a Lock n Lock box.

Next targets when I get my humidor:

1) RyJ Hermoso No. 2 LE2004 (eying this for quite some time but no humidor yet)

2) El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme

3) H. Upmann Connoisseur No. 1

I am in China now. Did a Hoyo petit robusto at Starbucks a few days ago and felt that I am an animal in the zoo with so many people staring! First time I did this outdoors here.

Found a cigar store here in high-end Japanese departmental store in China. The Partagas serie D no 4 is only about S$26 each in box of 3s. Single are more expensive at S$40. Slightly higher than Oaks if you get a box but in this case, I do not need to get a whole box. I got a box of 3s and the sales girl let me replace the 3 from the box with 3 singles that have been sitting in their humidor for a few of months. Haha!

Good stuff, Shoikman.

Hope you are having fun there.

RyJ Hermoso No. 2 EL2004 is one of my personal favourites and i stock quite a lot of these. It is still highly available as more people prefer PArtagas, Monte, Cohiba, Hoyo, Upmann ELs to RyJs

If we have time, Thursday might be a good day to have a herf.

Meeting a friend later, and maybe I will be an "animal" again by doing a SD No. 4 at the same Starbucks! The weather is however very hot and sitting outdoors can be agonising!

Throttle, maybe I should just get the RyJ Hermoso No. 2 EL2004 first before my humidor arrives while it is still available. Will there be any problems keeping the box as it is in an air tight container for a month or two?

Posted

just put the box in a ziplock bag out of the sun in a shady cool place.

Air tight container for 2 months?

It should be fine but no hurry, the only person who is going to fight for it with you is me, so plenty to go around.

As mention, i keep on rolling my "stock" so i will age one box and smoke one box. I have 8 humidors now and I'm almost out of space again. Humidor no. 9 is coming in a week's time. I've reserved that for my box of Upmann Magnum 50 EL 2005.

I reckon that i will get at least another humidor before the end of 2006 to make it No. 10.

*evil grin* heh heh heh

Humidor no. 9??? Wow!!! How I envy you... too rich for my blood! I now only have 15 cigars in my "lockerdor"! Why don't you consider a cabinet humidor since you have so many smaller ones? If you decide to get one and is letting go some of your humidors...... I will be waiting...... hahaha!!

Did not make it for my planned smoke last night as the weather is a killer.

Saw from previous threads that you may be basing in HK. I am in Shenzhen (a stone's throw from HK) half my time. I spend 2 weeks here every month.

I prefer desktop humidors becos, it's easier for me to seperate my cigars as well as transport the cigars if I need to.

Most of all, I like different designs and colors of humidors so I continue buying them. I'm currently looking for a sea blue humidor.

Actually I'm based in Singapore.

But my job requires me to travel around the region frequently.

I also enjoy going on short trips to catch up with my friends.

Went to the cigar shop again and saw that they brought in a box of choix supreme. The condition of the cigars were not too good. they feel a little damp and therefore a little soft and going for a song. They are clearing it at S$14 each. I was wondering if these are fakes but the shop is in Seibu and I doubt they will sell fakes.

Anyway, I gave it a shot and selected 3 of the better looking ones. I asked them if they are bringing in more stock and they say maybe not as it is not popular here.

I left the cigars out in an air-conditioned room for an hour and they immediately firmed up. I have not tried a choix supreme and decided to fire one up. Having just picked up cigars, I must say this is the best one I had so far. Good draw, nice aroma and rich smoke. I find it mellow and pleasing but the last third was too strong for me (maybe too strong for a newbie).

ERDM Specially selected has long been my favourite recommendation to Newbies, many folks here will tell you. Despite the medium strength and big ring gauge, I recommend it to Newbies becos of its good value, strong flavors and lasting impression of a big cigar. at S$14, it's cannot be considered expensive by any standards.

I have been very very busy lately but I'm certainly hoping to procure at least 5 more boxes of highly sought after EL cigars before I close for the year. Tobacco taxes can only go up so the earlier you buy the better. Hahaah

ya, its a really good cigar. I will go back there to carefully pick out the better ones. As I said, the condition was not too good.

Hopefully they will bring in more at that price... haha, but I doubt it. The sales girl said she will inform the management that someone actually likes this cigar!! Will wait and see.

I would love to join you guys during a meetup but my spare time (whatever little) in Singapore is reserved for wife and kids. Maybe I will make it someday!!

Couldnt stop from doing a Partagas Piramide Edicion Limitada 2000 and here is the review:-

Despite the 6 yrs of aging the Partagas Piramide EL has under its belt , the first puff started a little harsh. I could feel its strength right from the beginning and old school cuban flavors bloomed on my tongue. the draw was marvellous, not loose and certainly by no means tight. As bitterness overcame most of the dark chocolatey flavors at this point, i felt a little "unhappy". However, the deep aromas, the dark firm wrapper and the undying anticipation kept me wanting for more.

Notice the whiteness of the ash and the distinctive roughness of Cuban ash rings.

Like a magician, the bitterness disappear immediately after the first inch. I was greeted instantly by the much awaited dark chocolatey lingers permeating the pores of my whole mouth. This cigar is getting nearer to its "sweet" spot! the deepness developed further with a light tinge of spice and very welcomed toasted caramel rounded off each puff. The mucho ligero used in this EL is definitely showing its prowess!

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/5765/imgp4802cl5.jpg

check out the construction!

The exceptional work of sweat and toil provide a medium long finish which was amazingly clean. As i savored the 3rd and 4th inch, the pepper undertones kicked in gradually. the Ash grew long and white, building up steadily with every puff.

By now, the ash had reached the EL band and i'm forced to adjust the bands further down the cigar.

Compared to other premium cigars, this one somehow didnt offer copius amounts of smoke, something i was a little disappointed with. Nonetheless, it more than compensated for staying truly well balanced and lived up to its Edicion Limitada tag.

I will be holding on for a few months before doing the next Partagas Piramides EL 2000. This is the only way, i can make sure my tiny stock of less than 20 sticks of this treasure lasts me till 2010 and beyond.

Viva Cuba Libre!

With Fidel in hospital, Raul in control, US pushing for democracy.

What you guys think will happen to cuban cigar?

What if US lift the embargo?

Will price of cuban go rocket high?

Or any change in the quality of cuban?

Posted

Personal theory:

If US embargo on Cuba is lifted, there'd not be much change in the current situation with regards to Cuban cigars.

Reasons:

1. I believe that there're already widespread imports of Cuban cigars into US for serious cigar smokers even though it's illegal to do so.

2. Cuban cigars is and will always be a premium cigar, to the point that only serious cigar smokers will pay more when one can get a cheaper non-Cuban to smoke.

3. Cigar smokers in the US who dun smoke Cubans are used to the non-Cuban taste already. Many of them will stick to their fave cigars.

However, due to human greed and opportunists, initially when the embargo is lifted, there might be some upward fluctuation of price, but eventually, it will settle down to a reasonable value. It must be remembered, though, that prices for Cuban cigars will always go up, regardless of the embargo, because of limited raw material for a growing worldwide population.

With regards to the possibility of lifting the embargo or whatever , i'm simply buying as much as i can. just got another humidor making the total count to 10 now, heh heh.....but all desktop humidors, not very very big in size.
