Hello all,

Tried a Diplomaticos over the weekend and found it to be the lightest (and hence, given my inexperience) my most enjoyable cuban smoke thus far. Also had a Macanudo Maduro which funnily, while i did like it, i did not enjoy as much after the Diplomaticos. Strange since i really enjoyed the macanudo the first time i smoked it.

Second, had bought the above sticks from Oaks at Taka. Man; i was surprised by the sad condition of some of the cigars they had on display ready for purchase! There were greenish wrappers on some of these things, and while it was not mold, i would imagine that that you would not display cigars where the wrapper is intended to be brown or dark but has patches of green. Is that an accurate observation?

Nightstalker, am going to given the El Rey Del Mundo Choix Supreme you recommended a try this weekend.

When are you all meeting up this week? Will try and make it down if its on Wed or Thu and I dont have to stay late at work. Got family over from overseas after that so cant make the wkend.

Happy smoking this week to you all this week; especially in light of the 3 day weekend coming up.

Hi Riki,

Dips are medium light smokes which can be satisfying for the beginner especially. Dips can taste cardboardy when not well conditioned

My fave Dip is the Dip2 (piramides)

If all are fine, Wed nite is the nite.

Continue with your DR cigars and acquire a taste of your own, gradually alternating with differnt cubans to see if you prefer the stronger more robust flavors. Most people do and if they dont it's usually becos they havent smoked enough cubans.......

Please suggest location for the mid week smoke guys

Hi Guys,

Cant make Con D unfortunately but hope you guys have a great smoke session together.

Throttle, was thinking of getting myself a nice leather cigar case for 2 cigars (able to take 2 coronas). Any recommendations as to where to pick it up from? Have looked at Oaks and the decent looking ones there are about 140+. Would Con D for instance be likely to have a better range and/or pricing. Dont mind paying a decent sum as long as the quality is good.

Thanks

a gd place to search would be ebay. we've bought quite a lot of cigar related stuff (humidors, cutters, lighters etc) from there. u can check it out.

con d's got quite a few really nice ones too. esp the carbon fiber one. sweet! they also carry the siglo cases and if im not wrong, cost abt 100+.

wat kind of case u looking for? leather ones? metallic ones?

Thanks

Nitestalker is right.

Plus Oaks is way overpriced in this department.

Really depends on what you like $140 - $200 can get you a good cigar case.

but dont get one that is too small.

I recommend a 3 finger piramides size like the Dunhill full spanish leather one that i'm using

Just about $200 or so. Not so stiff and heavy as hardwood or carbon but protects and seal fairly well. however, leather interior needs to be "seasoned" with cigar aroma.......

Choices

=====

Hard wood (Cedar interior)

Leather (cedar interior)

Cabon fiber (Cedar interior)

100% Leather

etc....

siglo is very popular becos of the choice of color, make and price.

Less than $100. With cedar wood interior.

I somehow prefer full leather ones becos they are usually moulded with the cylindrical shape and hold cigars better.

Sorry can't make it tonight for a smoke. I don't think i will be smoking for the time being. Most of my cigar are "sick" i had 3 smoke on sunday and monday very very bad.

Start with RYJ PC very tight draw and no specific taste or flavour. Even the smoke don smell nice.

No choice but to put it down after halfway thru, boring and decided to try partagas shorts, sick also! No taste for the shorts, no spices, no chocolate, no coffee, nothing but a bit of ammonia smell and taste!

I discover later that my 2 stick are from the same humidor. Do a smell test on the remaining cigars and found out that most of them have the ammonia "urine" smell.

Is it possible for the cigar "sickness" to pass to another in the same humidor?

Can we smell or find out whether the cigar is sick before smoking?

Should i let my humidor air and breath for awhile? I almost open my humidor every one or two days.

I understand how bro entity feel......

Sick, very sick.....

Heh heh, thats why you need to buy more cigars and have a revolving supply. When some cigars are sick, you will have others which are good.

By the time your sicks cigars become good, your newer batch of cigars may become sick.

I guess each person has his tried and tested method, I generally air my cigars and even bring up the ones at the bottom of the humidor.

As for smelling, my sense of smell is not so acute.

If i pull out a good cigar from a batch, then i will keep on smoking it until i pull out a bad one from the same batch. afterwhich i will put them to rest for quite a few months before trying again.

It's tedious and you may need to keep a spreadsheet so that you know, especially when you have a lot of cigars. For me, i just rely on my memory which may not always be correct, but i always know a few batches whcih are ready to smoke.

Buying more cigars? Haha good idea. I think very soon my hand are itchy again to buy some more. The only thing is storage space.

Thinking of DIY coolerdor. Using those cloeman cooler and put some cedar sheet inside with some humidifier. Then i can storage them in the original box.

Huge storage space and cheap hahaha. Anyone try that before? I seen a lot of info on the net about people constructing their own coolerdor. One thing i worry is the humidity.

Posted

yes, one of my friends do that, his cigar collection is about 1000 sticks...

and he has a few hundred sticks in one cooler box.

seems to work for him but i still prefer individual humidors for storage.

Nicer to look at and easier to use, of course got to pay more, bo bian...

Basically filling an airtight plastic container (big one used to store drinks etc.. with humidifiers and lining cedar wood for the best effect....

Some people use a camera box which is also air tight and comes with built in hygrometer usually.

Also looking fwd to picking up some sticks for the wkend, Fri-Sun off means 3 sticks instead of the usual 2 hopefully!

If you have not tried the Hoyo Epicure No. 2, do try it.

It's a medium light mellow robusto that ages beautifully.

A must-have under the Hoyo range.

I am game for a smoke if someone else is....
