Nuvole, what lighter are you using? hope its not a zippo. you did say liquid fuel type. Thats not recommended for cigars actually.

Of all the piramides i have smoked, the P2 is most consistent so far but it's still new so not fair to judge. H Upmann No.2 is the other most consistent and followed by Diplomaticos No. 2 Monte2s in my experience has been most inconsistent till lately. All the 2005 montes i;ve had have been fairly good. just need a little more aging.

The Cohiba Piramides EL2001 are really overrated and too much to pay. I have quite a few when i was in Cuba. Robaina's Unicos can be really good and really unimpressive and doesnt quite suit my taste so I've given that up.

I still have half a box of the hoyo EL2003 Piramides and 4 PArtagas Piramide EL2000 left in my humidor. I dont have the habit of really hogging cigars so i'll continue to smoke them as i deem fit. it's gonna tough replacing those cigars though........

Nitestalker, it's possible that one was the odd one out of the box. Approx 10% of cigars may be tight or even worse plugged.

Piramides and robustos have beautiful draws usually.

P2s are really good for now. I hope the standards dont drop after the early batches.

I'm off to Tokyo tom evening

despite the tight draw of the monte 2, i still found the flavors to be rather pleasant. i can only imagine how much better it'd be if the draw was perfect.

nightstalker, how's your humidor? stable already? mine had increased from 69% to 75%, think it is due to rain these few days.. :giddy:

Having 40 over stick of monte no.2 under my bed, I hate to admit that monte can be inconsistence. I've some 04's monte no.3 that draw really tight and some 05's that draw okay. Bear in mind they are one of the highest in demand, hence possibility of rush rush job. I have been looking for less well known cigar to smoke with good reviews, but unluckily most cost to much for me

BTW, hope someone post me a private message for source of Partagas Culebras :cheeky:

Nuvole, no need to post private message for this. I've seen Partagas Culebras in KL. It's at Concord(e?) Hotel at Havana Club. Their range of cigars there are better than any that I've seen in Singapore. However, their prices are also slightly higher. If you really need to get it, expecially if its only a single stick (of 3 sticks)dun think there's any other way.

Not a zippo, but more or less the same. I use a dunhill unique sports which suppose to be a petrol lighter, I use zippo gas in it anyway. As opposeto many cigar, I lit-up the lighter and allow it to burn a few seconds before toasting the cigar. I quite dislike jet lighter.

Thanks for the info, but I'm not that rich enough to spend $$$ on those "high class" shop :sian:

Just as myself, I also prefer the soft flame lighters compared to jet lighters but i strongly discourage using liquid fuel lighters like zippo etc...as the fuel has a bad odor which will affect the cigar.

I use jet flame lighters only when i smoke outdoors where the wind will be too strong for my soft flame lighter.

Do consider switching to butane gas lighters which are available in soft flame style.

I recommend ST. Dupont

Aiyo, cheap guys like me walking around with short n sandal looks funny with a dupont lah. I've a dunhill unique which is a butane gas lighter, but rather diffcult to use under the slightest windy condition.

For cigar case, I recommend Davidoff Griffens or This

Damn rugged, and yet very light.

I've a 2 cigar type, no doubt its a corona size case, it fit for monte 2,but a bit too small for partagas 2.

I also use matches occasionally and even cedar spill.

Nuvole, i dont think you should pump liquid fuel into your dunhill butane lighter in that case.

Good one......

My spending on cigar + cigar related stuff is much much a hair as compared to others here(especially Throttle). I don't normally spend more than S$450 for box of 25 cigar.

I'm offshore(onboard vessel) most of the time, hence willing to spend more on stuff that "supposedly" not to break-down easily.

But then looks can be deceiving, the eloi(the round one) cutter is useless and have been sitting in the humidor all the time.

Hi guys, stumbled upon this forum when surfing the net - entered "cigars singapore" into google & this forum surfaced!

Wonderful that there're so many people who enjoy cigars in singapore. Personally, i do smoke (amateur-ly though. haha) but do not ride. I hope this doesn't offend anyone...

Anyway, have quit smoking cigarettes... recently sent my old prometheus tycoon x lighter so servicing (due to incredible, violent mishap..haha) and after getting it back, goddamn rekindled my thirst for those irresistable habanos. i hadn't smoked cigar for some 4 years... until...

Seriously, i even dream of the cool smoke entering my mouth, the wonderful nicotine kick... haha. that's how consuming it is.

Recently, over the past two weeks, treated myself to bahia gold maduro something something... think no. 2.. , cohiba siglo I (too short smoking time, but great appetiser), siglo II, VI, partagas 8-9-8. Already it feels like i'm burning my pockets! How do you guys keep this up?

Sold off my humidor long ago (yr2000)... now, as a result of my cravings, looking to buy a new one. Maybe from EBAY, saw some rather affordable ones (25 - 50count). Anyone with experience on this? Maybe can inform how much damage ($$) to expect? Someone's offering me a 2nd hand 1ft x 2ft humidor for under $300. Worth it? Too big?

Lastly, can anyone tell me what i can do with this Box of Romeo Y Julieta panatelas that i've had lying around since '2000? It's opened, panatelas are individually cellophane wrapped. 5 years old, the clear cellophane wrappers have been stained by the cigars... i.e absorbed them (dammit). Are they beyond hope and restoration?

Thanks a million.

oh yeah, wanted to ask around... where do you buy your cigars? long ago, i used to patronise oaks pan pacific, acantha (citylink), habanos (raffles city) but these places have all disappeared!

which one to choose? good service, good conditioned cigars? oaks, habanos, cigar affair (heard they were involved in a nasty legal entanglement with habanos over some cohiba ELs...)?

presently -warn me pls if this is not a good idea- thinking of importing through LA CAVA switzerland. Tariffs, duty, GST seem to be quite affordable... $352 per kilo & 5% GST won't be overkill right? taking into consideration a stick is approx 15-20g. a box of 25 is roughly 1/2 kilo only, at most.

or... anyone letting go of personal stash? haha

i juz bought a humidor from ebay. total cost was abt S$115 includin shippin. dependin on the type of postage u choose, it could take 2-6 wks for it to reach singapore.

as for cigars, sometimes i'll buy them from oaks taka. i prefer the service there. the salesman seems more friendly. cigars are seriously burnin a hole in my pocket too, considerin im still a student. :cheeky:

$115? that's pretty attractive pricing. overall structure & workmanship any good? i'm banking on your good experience (heh, feel like a leech!) to sway my decision.

anyway, got a little curious about the damn Romeo Y Julieta panatelas which were left untouched in my drawer for some four plus years now. searched pretty hard for the price online -was a tad bit difficult given its so "outdated"- something like 95euro for a box of 25. its been so long i can't really remember how much i'd paid for it...

smoked one after dinner... cellophane wrapper was brownish.. probably absorbed the cigar's aroma a little? even the band was slightly brownish...

oh well, RYJ Panatela '00, Habana. Ring: 34, Length: ~ 4 2/3". Cap was a bit dry. Filler and wrapper still ok. Pinch test: Slightly soft. Used a punch... pretty decent given the slightly dry cap, didn't unravel... Pre draw: Smooth, a bit loose. Used a jet lighter, lit up in seconds. Pretty even burn. Construction is 3/5. Held two inches of ash without problem. Medium bodied cuban. Lacking in complexity. Taste: Leathery, earthy woody, spicy. Short smoke time: 40mins. Smoked it to the last inch. Rating 2.5/5. Probably good over espresso, or if you want to smoke a quick one.

puff~

not very sure abt the quality though, since this is my first humidor. but i guess it's still pretty decent, to say the least. i'll be postin some pics of it soon. i think its more advisable to look at the seller's ratings if u're plannin to buy from ebay. or u can check out the seller i bought from if u're interested. juz pm me

Nightstalker,

That looks like an excellent humidor to me with all solid wood :cheer:

I've purchase a Reed & Barton - Concorde (display unit) at ebay early this year,

cost me US$182 + US$100 s/h(by surface !!!)

Then when I walk into a local and look at the price they are selling a cheapo, I feel much better :giddy:

My next one is on its way here, a Reed & Barton - Jamestown

Damn s/h itself cost me US$65(by surface).

P.S: I really like to support local shops, but then I don't earn enough :cheeky:
