Had my first Partagas 8-9-8 and San Christobal La Punta last night during the gathering. And the tobacco tastes are still lingering in my mouth this morning after brushing my teeth. Always the mark of a good cigar!

The Partagas 8-9-8 is what some people refer to as the "old school" cigar taste. It's a bold cigar, giving tons of earth from the very first puff. Very intense and strong in flavour. Sometimes too strong. It turns bitter and leathery from the 2nd half onwards, exactly how some veteran cigar smokers like it. Personally, I prefer the Partagas Lusitanias and P2s more, as my palate prefers the flavours they produce.

Followed this cigar with the San Christobal La Punta, a campana (looks almost a pyramides). This cigar is very straightforward. The tastes of beans are present throughout, albeit getting stronger halfway through. The first half also presents slight grassiness and some woodiness. The draw was very loose despite me giving it just a small cut. Nevertheless, an enjoyable cigar. One for those who likes flavours of beans in their cigars.

The bunch of us enjoyed smoking at Conniosseur Divan. Once in a while, its fun to exchange the laid-back, no frills atmosphere of smoking at Arab Street to smoking at the laid-back, upper-class, air-conditioned atmosphere of Con D.

The Partagas Serie P no.2, as usual, didn't disappoint. The stick i smoked last night was awesome; this batch only had 2 months of rest. nutty & creamy at first... then... dark chocolate, cocoa beans... then!!! spicy leathery.... wow! Impressive

first time at conn D for me. nice place to chill out. i'll definitely be goin back again.

had my first cohiba. a siglo II. was grassy at the beginnin and beaniness came after the 1st third. now i know wat a cohiba tastes like. not a bad smoke i must say, but definitely not one of my favs.

once again, the curse of the plugged cigar has struck me. my first ever cohiba was slightly plugged, much to my dismay. the same thing happened wif my first lusi. dammit... would have enjoyed the siglo II more if the draw wasnt so tight.

Nightstalker is having the "curse" of the plugged cigar while I'm having the "curse" of the "sick" cigar. I think my curse is worse. It's possible to still enjoy a plugged cigar but impossible to enjoy a "sick" cigar.

To the uninitiated, a "sick" cigar refers to a cigar thats undergoing a "sick" period. This is the period* whereby ammonia (and other "waste" products) are produced in copious amounts due to fermentation. On the plus side, this means that the aging process is coming on smoothly, and that over time, the cigar will taste better (more matured). On the negative side, this means that if you have the bad luck of smoking a "sick" cigar, the "plastic" taste will ruin your current smoking experience. The only way to know if a cigar is "sick" is to smoke it. This can be avoided be smoking aged cigars (at least 2 years old), though its not a 100% method.

*Not to be confused with young cigars. Young cigars may or may not be undergoing a "sick" period at the point of smoking.

plugged cigars are a result of the poor bunching process.

where the binder leaves are somewhat bunched together wrongly such that the airflow on the draw is "plugged" or blocked.

The draw is very tight and little air flows through the cigar producing a poor burn.

On another note:-

In box splitting, the standard rule that my friends and I share is that we just simply take from the top of the box without choosing. What will be will be.

It is not fair for the person who already went thru the effort to get the box especially if the others who are sharing it start to pick and choose the best.

i'll still pass him a stick of siglo II for his efforts and the a/m

Wow Wow Wow!!!!

Just had the last of my RYJ Ex No. 4 2001 batch and it was simply smashing.

Ozing with flavors and complexity on every draw. The ever fruity undertone and the toasty cedary smoke is the best i've had in a long time. It has been in my humidor for more than 6 months. The draw, burn and construction was perfect and beautiful. For a cigar of this price, it is totally 100% underrated.

For me the RYJ is still the "invincible"....:thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

After having such a solid smoke, i took out my tiny Reyes, also the last one from my previous batch (2005) and......Wonderful again....

Creamy and quite full of body, it smoked. Very slightly biting, it was all I can ask for in a young Reyes anyway. Clean tobacco flavors with a medium long finish.

Top rated!!!!!!

Totally satisfied

 :cheer: :thumb:

Looks like this weekend's Monte 2 and Serie D No. 1 EL 2004 will have big deep boots to fill.

Hello,

may I introduce myself: My name is Martin, and I like to have a good cigar once in a while.

I am a member at The Connoisseur Divan @ Singapore since long.

Any new date for a joint outing?

And can I come by bike? I ride a black MotoGuzzi V11 from Italy.

Martin, you are welcome to come by anything, even on foot.

We usually have one every two weeks or so in Arab St, due to the more laid-back atmosphere there. Impromptu "Herfs" happen between the folks here up all the time. just like the one a few days ago at Con D.

Would love to see the Guzzi.....

Hi Martin, of course you're welcome to join us. We dun have any gatherings planned so far, but will post it in this thread if there is.

Almost all of us here ride bikes and we usually choose places where we can park easily.

just a show of hands. how many would be able to make it for a smoke next monday evenin

and would u guys prefer con d or al sheik?

i'm free! haha

well, i'd choose con d if we can make it for happy hour or opening a good bottle of wine (since a glass of housepour chilean red is $16+... ridiculous...)

For the same prices I think regent hotel lounge matches up quite well also. although the tempting la casa cubano is there too.
