Do any of your guys experience this sort of "phenomenon"?

Smoke a stick when you just received a box of cigars: milder than normal, slight bite

Smoke a stick after you've rested them in your humidor for 2 weeks to a month: fuller, still bites but less

Smoke a stick about 3 months later: sick period

yes you can.

all sick cigars have a similar bad taste.

the taste of burnt plastic is one but the many distinctive sick tastes.

sometimes the cigar exhibits the sick tast only after a while or intermittently as it smoke progresses

Entity can explain better

I'm able to explain the "sick" thing better cos it happens to me more often. Not a good thing..

Okay, the way I understand it (which is only recently), a "sick" cigar has the burnt "plastic" taste as Throttle puts it. Sometimes this taste is very strong, making it seem like its a flavour of the cigar. Other times, its more subtle, or mixed with the other natural characteristics of the cigar. There're also times that it appear only halfway through the cigar, or it can appear from the start. This "burnt plastic" taste is very distinctive, and seems universally disliked, unlike earthy, beany, leathery, etc which some like and some hate. Therefore this taste can't be intentionally created for people to smoke.

Once you've placed the "burnt plastic" taste, even when you smoke a certain cigar for the first time, you can identify that the cigar is "sick". I do not know of any way to tell if a cigar is sick without smoking it.

Actually, my previous post wasn't about "sick" cigars. It's about smoking cigars you've just received within 1 month, otherwise can only smoke it about half a year later. Dunno if its just me or everyone has got this problem.

hi guys!

haha, there are few cigar shops around here. managed to source one out at Castro... mostly dominicans - ashton, pinar3000, arturo fuente, opus... the prices are from $3.00usd to $30usd... not including all the edicion limitada stuff...

anyway, in the past week did a '01 Monte no.2 and an '05 Partagas P2. the weather here is very cold so when you smoke, the cigar almost never burns hot! quite nice in that regard. On the flipside, have to constantly monitor the humidity since it's roughly around 40%...

oh, forgot to mention that there are only a handful (and i mean lesser than 5) of places to smoke. those that permit smoking are licenced by permit (that costs a lot, difficult to obtain and requires lots of paperwork...)

just to elaborate, i came across a cigar lounge that is members only. monthly subscription is roughly $40usd! good grief...

Good to hear that you are doing fine Doubtfool.

for USD40 a month, I'll pay the subscription to join the club if I'm there. Haha...

That sucks!!

On a different note, since nobody confirmed that they're coming for tonight's outing, it's cancelled. Those who can make it at the last minute, just sms me.

Testing out a less popular way (although used all the time in Cuba) of keeping cigars as I am simply running out of space in my humidors.

Air tight glass jars!!

So far so good.

I will take one out to smoke this weekend.

I still have about 8 sticks of the Choix Supreme so I will skip.

My next purchase is likely a box of RYJ Hermosos No. 2 Edicion Limitada.

I will hold back until April for that as I have absolutely overspent on cigars and related in 2006.

Need some form of control here. heh heh

I've got space but can't decide what to get.

Wish List:

H. Upmann Magnum 50 (damn hard to get!)

Montecristo Edmundo (must smoke a Monte 2 to be sure I prefer the Edmundo)

Trinidad Reyes?

I've got lots to smoke to make a final decision..
