There's always a stigma when you jio a lady to smoke a cigar. You know what I meant.

I tried it once, ending up a really menacing glare from her. Not really a pretty sight. :weep:

Cigar smoking is not only a matter of flavor, taste and aroma. I find that the level of enjoyment in smoking a cigar is greatly enhanced by learning about the many facets of its colorful history. This brings us to the culture and the backdrop of its birthplace, to the people, the architecture and also to the music that it influences or influences it.

Throttle bro. Thanks for your Romeo Y Julieta yesterday. Sad to say, didn't have the chance to fire it up AGAIN..... Will do it soon. My plan of getting that HD maybe foiled.....some shitty thing happened at home...

Anyway, very happy to see you there. It's been so long that we since last met at Suntec. Yes indeed, i am very glad to see you again.

Take care and we shall meetup again. And i hope to enjoy the taste of the cigar to the fullest.

im back. totally roasted during my dive trip. had a hell of a time there!

we alighted at the dive centre at river valley. not too far from conn d and i was tempted to ask u guys out for a smoke. but i guess it's a little too last min. another day then...

had a siglo II on the first nite there. plugged. i think its my 2nd or 3rd plugged siglo II man. gave up halfway... ended the nite feelin robbed of my enjoyment. haha...

Posted

Looks like you've been enjoying life, Nitestalker, albeit the plugged Cohiba.

Cohiba quality is really going down the drain, in my opinion.

The taste is losing distinction and the make quality has slackened.

it is not even triple capped nowadays. I have not been impressed by a Cohiba for quite a while. Last good one was a Siglo III.

I'll be at El Sheikh (Arab Street) on 16th May (Tues) from 7 pm onwards smoking cigars. Anyone interested to join in, just come along.

Throttle, on the topic of Cohibas, I've "discovered" the Corona Especiales. Medium-bodied, nutty mixed with the grassy flavour of Cohiba. Very very good but a bit pricy.

Posted

Coincidently, was at Amara on Friday night doing a P2.

Took a draw of my friend's 1998 Cohiba Corona Especiales......

Was smooth, tasted as an aged cigar would but i cannot zero in on the flavor.

Wasnt distinctively Cohiba or anything at all. I cant say i hate it but i cant say that i like it either......

Will do a Cohiba Robusto soon.

I think they should be about right by now although still young.

Sorry, expected to be unavailable tomorrow so cant join you.

Was reading stuff about cigars and came upon some unofficial "news" that the Edition Limitada for Cuban cigars this year are re-releases of previous ELs, using leaves from the 2003 batch:

Partagas Serie D3

Montecristo Robustos

Cohiba Pyramides

Sounds very exciting, especially for those who started cigar-smoking not too long ago, and missed the chance to sample these cigars when they were launched 5 years back and are simply too expensive now.

Posted

That's interesting, but it's happened before although not over a stretch of a few years in this case. I somehow think this is yet another one of the marketing/selling ploys/techniques by Habanos.

Perhaps Habanos found some 2003 leaves stashed away somewhere due to poor inventory management and decided to make more than usual by labelling them Edicion Limitadas and rolling them into favorites and highly sought after brands.

If I'm the big guy behind Habanos, that's what I'll do for sure. Hehehe.

Packaged in signature boxes and other special presentations will also help to see the cigar community grab them up.

People will simply buy to see if the smoke was the same as the ones they had back in 2003 and prices may be a bit cheaper but if they are banded 2003 ELs the market capacity to absorb the stock is quite great.

I'll probably be one of those suckers too........

The D2 is very close to the D3 perhaps just a little less intensed. I've smoked probably 3-4 of these. I'm contented with smoking the D2s.

The Monte Robusto was quite standard Monte stuff and it didnt impress me. I've smoked only one (during my wedding night).

The Cohiba Piramides as I recalled was spicier than usual and had no distinctive beany flavors but it was pretty good. I had many of these in Cuba.

Had a very good Punch Punch.....the best i've had ever, in fact.

Superb toasty flavors with the cognac tail off at the end, wonderful......

Apr 05 batch.

Gonna continue smoking these for a while

sorry to cut in.

hi guys,

I need advice from u all, i need to bring a batch of cuban cigars to US.

my friend want a box of 25 from Montecristo, vegas robaina, Partagas or H. Upman.(anyone box).

Should i get in duty-free or get it in town. how does the prices vary like.

any advice is welcome. dont worry about the legal issues.

thank you

Posted

Duty Free of course since you are travelling there.

Prices vary by about 20 to 25%

i suppose you will unband them and put in another box.

US Cuban embargo is quite strict. Customs can confiscate your cigars as long as you cant prove that they are not Cubans

===============================================

Or are you talking about buying it from Duty Free and bringing them into singapore

:nono:

then from Singapore ship to US via courier?

Hi, I dont smoke cigarette.. But lately I wanted to give Cigar as a present to 1 of my friend In China. And I am not sure if I should buy it in Duty Free Shop in Changi Airport when I am flying over to China? Or should I buy it from those Cigar Shops like Oaks for example??? I also heard from the website of Cigar Affair where they had a shop at Furama hotel. They claimed on their website with these statement

THINGS DON'T LOOK SO GLOOMY AT

CIGAR AFFAIR

OUR PRICES ARE DEFINITELY LOWER THAN

DUTY FREE PRICES

YOU WILL BE SPOILT FOR CHOICE WITH OUR

WIDE SELECTION AND AT OUR PRICES

NO WONDER WE ARE KNOWN

"THE BEST VALUE FOR MONEY SHOP" IN ASIA

They said their prices are LOWER THANK DUTY FREE PRICES??? Can that be true?? I am not sure at all..

Any experience friends around who can give me wise advise on whether I should get it at Duty Free Shop at Changi Airport or at those local Cigar Shops??

And which Brand and model of CIGAR I should get??

What are the prices ???

Appreciate your valuable inputs..

thanks for the reply,

i was thinking to buy it at hongkong or singapore dutyfree on the way back to singapore, then repack them into another box to carry back to us or ship it back.

that was the plan.

is there any problem to get a box of cigar into singapore??? just paid tax for it right???

Posted

no problem, but max is 400g per traveller. just pay tax and GST.

for a box of robustos expect to pay around $100 tax including GST.

Singapore Duty FRee is more well stocked and slightly cheaper than HK duty Free .

Castro,

Cigar Affairs was taken to court not too long ago by Pacific Cigars (Habanos distributor for Cuban cigars) for selling counterfeits. It was in the papers.......go figure....

As for what to buy and how much, it all depends on your relationship with the person receiving the gift and what he likes to smoke.

Prices are very wide ranging. but Cubans are the priciest at Duty FRee. Prices are better in Singapore Duty Free compared to China Duty Free.

I would recommend a highly consistent mellow yet fulfilling box of Romeo Y Julieta Exhibicion No. 4. I think the price is $500++ for a box.

cheers

"Fun" fact:

The current (May 2006) tobacco tax in Singapore is S$352 per kg.

Using approximate weight of a Robusto size cigar as 12 grams, a box of 25 Robusto cigars will incur (12 x 25)/1000 x 352 = S$105.60 before GST.

GST is determined by the purchase price of the box of cigars. Current (May 2006) GST is 5%.
