Good Day Gentlemen,

I have the strong urge to buy the F800GS over Yamaha XT660Z, In need of all your feedbacks on bike's (Beemer) reliabilities. Is it value for money apart from its looks, brand or some say lifestyle? After reading the posts here, I got myself confused if it really cost a bomb to own a Beemer. I do not want to rush in, get one and regret it later. Just don't wana burn my pocket unnecessarily.

Apart from bike's reliabilities, I would like to know more about its maintenance & costs, pros & cons..etc.. or what should/would I expect from it?

Just want to own a good bike for riding up North. Don't want to get a wrong bike!

I welcome & appreciate honest feedbacks. Please Advice.

Cheers!

Maintenace wise, it does really cost quite abit ESP labour. No doubt it really cost much more than other bikes but it's not the money that matters. Its what u ride. My opinion is since u want it, go get it. Cos if u dun, n start to ride another bike cfm u would still b thinking about it.

It's really hard to pen down a-z . It would b more appropriate to meet up n talk abt it.

As a BMW, the F800GS is very good value for money I think.

Lot's of 3rd party parts and consumables like discs/pads etc. to choose from.

Once you are out of warranty, you can always use for favourite mechanic for servicing, but its hard to find an independant mechanic with the BMW diagnostic computer for re-setting the service interval indicator ;)

The 800GS sips fuel, does very good mileage. I get 300-350Km from the 16L tank - thats about 19 or 20km/L, which is pretty good going for a higher CC bike like this. For oil, I've never needed to add any between changes.

On early models (2008/2009) there were a few problems with radiator hoses, engine gaskets, and a few other niggles but these have been sorted at production stage now, its fairly 'mature' after two years of manufacturing.

It's lighter and more nimble than, say, the 1200GS but for riding up north is it not as capable as a mile-cruncher. Having said that, I am happy for 600km in a day without any worries, but some people find the seat too hard and need to change it.

Its a great bike for unpaved roads. Its not an "off-road" bike, its too heavy, but I have had great times on gravel & sand roads around Malaysia.

Throttle is a bit snatchy until you get used to it, but that is par for the course with modern, lean fuel-injected engines - gone are the days of carburettor smoothness.

If you just want a good bike for riding up north, look for something more tour orientated maybe for motorway miles? The Jap bikes are generally cheaper here to buy and own than BMW.

But nobody ever buys a motorbike because its a sensible choice...bikes are bought with the heart. I love mine.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedbacks. I just found out that I requested for feedbacks almost 1 year ago. I was busy with travels.

Anyhow, I thank all of you.

I made up my mind, bought FJR13 instead. Did plan to go further. I would still grab a beemer in the future, GS is still a beauty. Never fail to catch my attention. 
