The owner's manual says I should change the oil every 5,000 miles or once a year. I change my oil every 2,500 miles or twice a year. So why do I need that kind of protection?

For peace of mind and added protection. You pay a lot for a bike these days, so why risk running your engine in ordinary oil? Just like Mobil 1 synthetic oil for cars, Mobil 1 synthetic motorcycle oil helps keep your engine clean – free from varnish and deposits – and smooth running mile after mile, no matter what conditions you ride in.

Mobil 1 oil benefits engine life and performance. In fact, the lubrication capability of Mobil 1 motorcycle oil helps maintain peak horsepower and acceleration throughout the life of your engine. And with Mobil 1 motorcycle oils you can go the full 5,000 miles between oil changes.

So, if you want to ride your bike long and hard and not be concerned about the oil, choose Mobil 1 motorcycle oil.

Is it work the same for all syn oil. Is it okay for a moderate change per 7 km? Advice pls. Thanks

Azzy2327 can you advise what is your idling rpm?

My idling voltage is 12.2v at 800rpm, I guess this might be the problem as it is not charging enough to run the electrical components on bike. I'm stripping my batt off to do a recharge and will also be adjusting the idling rpm up to 900rpm to give a higher voltage when idle. Lets see if it works and will keep you guys posted on the outcome.

Dlight,

My idling rpm +-950 and voltage is at 13.5v with headlight on and 14v with headlight off.

The check your battery holding charge capacity, you will need a voltmeter. Crank your bike a few time with the kill switch on. Check your battery with voltmeter. If the reading is 12.4v means your battery can only hold 40% from actual capacity and its time to change your battery. Before installing your new battery, check the voltage reading must be 12.8v and above.

If the voltage is below 12.8v or below 80% from full capacity, do a trickle charge till fully charge.

Hi, below comparison is base on my own opinion.

Maintenance: same

Pick up/ torque: FJR

Engine: STX(smooth)

Build: STX

Ridding postures: STX more upright.

Wind protect: STX

Handle bar: FJR, adjustable

Weight: FJR(lighter), no diff for both when on the move.

Fuel tank: STX, bigger( normal cruzing 400km)

Shock: STX, FJR rear too soft(after market will solve the problem.

Brakes: STX, FJR rear brakes ABS always kicks in.

Technology: FJR, few updates for the new 2013 model. STX is more or less the same since 2001.

If you are having 2006 models onward more or less they have sorted out some issues with the prev version. The new models only have some minor improvement.

Yup, when i bought it 1 year ago its 33k otr... a gtr is 34k otr.. there is once fjr cost a mere 25k otr, now it shoots up to above 30k.. to me, a stx may be the oldest of its class, but i bought it for one reason, cos its proven.
