Was reading 07 litre bike reviews just now... Suzuki copy Yamaha's trademark, they got a dip at about the same RPM range now also!

thats a flaw leh, not trademark.. the only trademark for R1 is the pair of sexy cat's eyes... hasnt change since 98.. only got more refined..

Wah, all talk so RA one. If short, try PCC instead of PC3. Confirm better performance one...

hi guys,

it seems there is no street legal version of k7 600 for akrapovic. what they have in stores now are street legal versions meant for 06 or 750. when fitted, it looks just like the previous k versions... long! totally defeats the purpose of the motoGP exhaust system it's meant for!

i think even the micron GP exhaust only has for the 06. dunno wats the delay for k7 types... the only downside is the micron one has the cat converter testicle thingie there... is it a must to fix that cat converter?

I object that you say 15W50 is too thick, but i didt say anything about the

10W50 or the 5W50. and i recommend 10W50 to 1000cc rider , and you recommend 5W50 to the bike with slipper clutch, i also didt object that. I only object that you say 15W50 is too thick. And so how is 5W50 better than say 15W50? or 10W40? or 10W50? Do you have some kind of reason behind your recommendation for the 5W50? I am deeply curious. too.

And why i say 10W40 is too thin , which you , yourself also say is too thin . As i only encounter clutch slip when using that oil, which is when i do a lot of wheelie, but i dun encouter clutch slip even when i do a lot of wheelie when i am using 10W50 or 15W50. enough on why i dun use 10W40 EO on my bike.

I have stated my reason for recommending Ultra 5W50. Quite simply, the shifting sticks with the thicker Extra 15W50 grade from feedback gathered. The thinner Ultra works and is tough as seen from HTHS numbers.

You have your own preference for a thicker oil, it is afterall, the general consensus, not necessarily yours.

Your own preference is against the general consensus, and I am merely replying a specific question in regard to the user experience with the use of the product Extra (grade unknown) in G1K. So were you really reading yourself before you jumped in?

The feedback from the general consensus is likely more relevant to the owner of a stock bike compared to the personal preference of one individual and whatever he has done to the bike, be it modifications or wear and tear.

I never said 10W40 is too thin. Since the question posed was on Extra, naturally the answer was in reference to Extra 10W40, which is on the extreme thin end of the 40 range and therefor not entirely suitable for some bikes. Knowing the reference which the user is starting from is key to understanding their preference and making a recommendation in the right direction.

And I will really love to know the reasons that you recommend a 10W50 grade when they are typically the least sheer resistant of the oil with a large viscosity index spread. When subjected to bike use, they usually become a 40 grade rather quickly.

An example will be Elf's Moto 4XT tech 10W50.

http://www.metabond.hu/termekek/elf_moto4xt.htm

I can't read the language but the good thing is that SI unit is universal engineering language. This oil, at 17.6 Cst, is thicker (!) than Maxima Extra 15W50 (17.42 Cst) when fully warmed up. But the Elf fully syn has a HTHS of merely 4.5 (ASTM D 4683 150degC), while the Extra is 5.5. The Ultra is thinner than both at 16.3 Cst, but still surpasses the Elf with HTHS of 4.9.

Now what does all this jargon translate to? This means durability when put to extreme trashing: Extra 15W50 > Ultra 5W50 >>> Elf 10W50

Put in Elf 10W50 into your bike, it will shear down faster (become watery) than either Extra 15W50 and the much thinner Ultra 5W50.

Rem: Thick oil SHOULD be tougher, but it isn't when u have a 10W50 compared to a true high quality oil. The 10W50 will drop down to a 40 grade quicker, your perceptions on it is really the viscosity closer to that of 10W40 instead of a 10W50 that it started as. It just doesn't stay 50 long, it hits the viscosity sweetspot then turns rough as it thins more and more.

Want thicker for durability? Go Extra 15W50, it makes the typical 10W50 looks weak. However, such a tough oil may never shear down to the viscosity sweetspot of the bike, which is why I say the general consensus that 15W50 (especially the very tough Maxima Extra), is not preferred in some models, especially the slipper clutch ones that are feedback to shift crisper with thinner grades.

The thinner but tougher Ultra 5W50 gets good durability and shifting from start to end for models that don't work so well with Extra 15W50's thickness.

As for how I form my conclusion about what models shift best with what viscosity, simple. Observe (listen to complaints instead of shouting out my own personal preference based on my beat up R6), analyse (see what they use, know the specs, toughness, typical lifespan before users start complaining), form a theory, test it out with practical (mix the exact target viscosity, immediately test response). If practical agrees with theory, hey, I am onto something, don't really have to test alot of times. Enough people start telling me my recommendations WORK, then I present it to public.

Simple....then again, maybe not so simple because it is 2+ yrs of gathering data, wrecking brains and figuring out why some love grade A while others hate it. A simple question with a tedious solution, not something pulled out of thin air.

Funny, how come i dun have this problem. ... . . . . . .

Perhaps it is sneaking up on you :thumb: Bikes coming out of showrooms do not clutch slip with typical 10W40. Covering up with thicker oil works at arresting clutch slip, but you're in denial if you think your clutch is 100%. It a matter of time even 10W60 won't help the slip.
