Check the jets to see if its worn i.e needle jet hole should be circular and not oblique, jets needle should not be worn. Check the float and it should not be puncture and the needle valve is not worn. Diaphragm should not be tear or broken. The butterfly valve should be able to open and close smoothly.

For cleaning just buy a spray can of carb cleaner and spray through all the holes, take note to remove the o ring and plastic parts first. Add a in line fuel filter to your fuel hose and your carb will be clean for a very long time.

Let's say i buy a new stock carb from parts shops. I just fit it in myself? No need to set anything? Plug and play?

You mean the carb is not set at the factory settings? Because my bike is 100% stock.

I gues u still need to do tuning bro.. even if ur bike are in stock condition, ur new carb still need to be "adjust" to ur engine needs..

Leave the aftermarket carb settings to mechanics who have raced before. Not just any mechanic.

An aftermarket carb works best with a ported engine and an unrestricted exhaust... if not you are just wasting your money.. stick to your stock carb for a stock bike.

Go to Abboy Motor Racing at Kallang Ave Industrial estate... see the trophies on the shelf. That is a mechanic who can tune a carb to race standards.

Ever see a Yamaha Y125Z that can rev to 15,000 rpm and over take a DRZ400SM on the straights and exceeding 170 KMH??

It's sitting in the shop.

flat slide & d slide generally offer quicker response than round slide.

d-slide answers some of the flat slide's shortcomings.

i've had the slides sticking on my flatslide carb.. after open throttle, cannot close.. haha

anyway, have u changed to carbon reed valves yet?

it gives crisper response as well.

when changing to aftermarket carb, my opinion is to change to bigger mm for more difference.

I think I just drooled.

Love the 125Z, even though mine was stock. Not sure how the mechanic managed to make mine get 39km per litre of fuel (cruising at 130kph) but I suspect he knows some ancient chinese secrets :p

If your bike is stock then the factory jetting and needle will be the correct one. It's plug and play. You only need to mess with jets if you change to a free flowing exhaust and air cleaner, or if you port your engines.

It doesn't hurt to just get a ruler and check that the float seat height is ok. It should be, but since it's so easy to check, I'll just check.
