Hi dirteaters,

Consider me an uncle. Yup its many many years ago I breath, eat and sleep dirt. I 've owned a TS, DTs, IT, PEs and the last high seat was a dominater. I'm riding a super4 spec3 now and own a car too. Yes, you guess right. I'm short, about 1.65m to be precised. True, most of previous scramblers were high but during those days I was quite gungho and my legs stronger.

Now, I see many new adventure and dirtbikes which are far more advance and well design than those in the 70's and 80's. The choices are also more.

The point here is that I wish to still ride a dirtbike but those which has a capacity of more than 250cc. Basically just for power and better suspension. However I realised that the seat to ground height is a bane to me. I need to tiptoe at standstill hence the problem. I have knee problems, not that bad, but I try not to aggravate it. Soooo....can anyone tell me whether the height of these adventure and 4 stroke scramblers be adjusted. I still like my spec3 but itching to own an XR, DR or an adventure bike to enjoy a easy trail riding in W. Malaysia with some of my old friends. Thank you in advance for all advises.

There are aftermarket lowering links available for some dirtbikes. XRs and DRs included.

Thank you Ulysses for the feedback. Pardon my ignorance or stupidity......can anyone list some shops that sells or install these linkages. Thanks again.

Ebay or overseas vendors are a good place to search. Alternatively, you can try Sing Hong and Company, located along Mayo street (on the left).

i am not sure if lowering links for the dr650 exist because for the post'96 models, there are two height settings for this bike. To change the height setting, it merely involves removing a bolt at the bottom of the suspension, then you re-position to the upper hole, and put the bolt back. For the front, slide the fork tubes up the triple-tree by about 1". Done. you have a lower ride. After lowering, you have to shorten the side stand, so you can either order a short one, or cut the stock one.

It will not be as low as your super4 spec3 where you can flat foot with both feet but it will be very manageable for your height even with weak knee condition.

the stock rear spring of the DR650 is rather soft, so the bike will sag quite abit with weight of the rider.

the DR650 can be lowered quite significantly, and it won't cost you a cent but a lowered ride means less aggressive offroad riding.

Hi Demon, thanks for the valuable info. Yeah heard about the DRs and DRZs rear but a good insight of the front. No man, I am too old for agressive riding. Just an old f**t trying to relived those good old track days but with very much less recklessness. Anyways appreciate the info. Cheers
