Thanx a lot for the advises. I bought the AT with a friend of mine while trading in his bike at Loois, but somehow or rather after a month i just feel that i should dont waste my time riding AT but should get a beemer instead. Ive yet to talk to Shawn, the son of Loois. Hes a friend of mine from NS and wonder what he could offer me.

Ive long wanting to have that GS but i think that there are no 2nd hand GS or GSA over at Loois. They do have a new GS for sale though...hahaha

Oh for the nick....Its a spontaneous one.... Its really like asking the long awaited girl, but for now is the bike to be my woman....hahha

Loois has a couple of F800GS, I think those are competent machines. Talk to Mr. Lee la ...

Good luck.

Cheers

Nice. Is that kopi-O or teh-O? :slurp:

I had to top up my front reservoir once and the fluid looked dirty grey. The light wasn't too good so couldn't be sure how bad it was but that convinced me I better change all the brake fluid.

On another note I emailed a SpeedBleeder vendor on ebay about the size of the nipples under the tank and he said he doesn't know.

I emailed the same question to SpeedBleeder last week but till now there was no reply. If this is their customer service, it sure doesn't instill confidence in the company. Anyway, even if I order now, they wouldn't arrive in time so I will try bleeding with the original grub screws. At least this time round.

Will see how it goes.

BTW, what did you use for your TBS? Did it solve your surging?

The rider from that pic did a careful bleeding at the calipers and thought it was all well. For some reasons, he went ahead with the ABS module and found this! How shocking it is! I would certainly want to bleed ALL of them for a peace of mind. That might also be the reason why ABS on some bikes failed which will cost a bomb.

Should be able to get the part number of speedbleeder from Advrider or other forums. U have to get the nipple from BMW like coolcat mentioned if u still have the grub screw.

The TPS was done with the help of that article found in WISDOM. Very easy job, only multi-meter and 2 electrical wires for tapping the voltage. Oh ya, hex key for the torx screws too. Pretty much a 10-15 mins job but i took like 1 hr fiddling all the parts, haha.

I dont think they help with the surging but like i said, i am having problem with my fuel now and still have a lot more things to do up. TPS is just a small step in making sure everything is in order since i dont have much servicing history for this bike. Need any help, let me know.

Anyway, anyone has the owner's manual or know of anywhere i can get them? I dont even know which fuse is for which component!

Hiya, Enjoy

The bleeding is the same as Jap bikes; and I did not use any speed bleeder. If you have been doing your own bleeding then you should be ok. However, if you have ABS, then Clymer and (of course) BMW says that the ABS control unit should be bled by authorised workshop; while some other literature takes the view that bleeding from the calipers will also drain the ABS system. The last time when I worked on a R1150RT, that did not work and we had to manually vacuum out the fluids in the hydro unit. My take on it is to do a normal drain via calipers and then see how the brakes are.

The clutch is a bit more painful cos of the allen-key grub screw / check valve system used by BMW instead of the usual nipple. You can fit a BMW nipple part no. 34 21 2 330 310 to it and then bleed it the usual way as brakes. The bleed nipple can be left there after flushing.

Water in a full tank? I'll gladly take some fuel from ya. :) Just drain the whole lot and let the tank dry out. Good luck.

Cheers

Thanks, should be working on it pretty soon......fuel tank first!

Maybe you can get one of these online ones:

online manual for R1150

I went to the ADVrider WISDOM website and found a whole treasure trove of info there. Thanks.

BTW, will you be interested in making some wooden spacers for the brakes?

ABS funnel and spacers

Can we get wooden blocks from DIY stores? Even with the wood, I will need clamps, saw, planner, etc. Simple procedure but most of us living in HDB flats probably don't have all these tools ready. And probably not worth getting all these stuff for a one-off job. You know any workshop that can does this?

I actually found the service manual which consist of 311 pages for free. Haven't really look at it though. What i want is the owner's manual. Pretty weird that it's so hard to find.

No idea on the wooden dummies.

IMHO, nothing much in the owners manual. the service manual provides much more info on the bike and how to care for it.

I think I should have my owner manual with me.

Let me check.

Wads the pressure readings u guy run on ur GSA on SG roads? Based on the RDC and not the pump readings at the kiosk pls.

I am running 40:41, and am comfy with it. 38:39 (or anything lower) seems wobbly.

Or is 40:41 too high?

Finally replaced the brake fluid last weekend. To prevent any air being trapped, I removed the fuel tank and bled the fluid from the two nipples at the top of the ABS module (just like the pic at the top of this page). Then I bled the fluid from the three brake calipers.

You can see the color of the old fluid. This has been diluted with some clean fluid in the process of bleeding, so the old fluid may be even darker in color.

The job is not too tedious on a R. There are no fairings to remove. But being a first time for me, I neglected to replace the cover of the front brake reservior when squeezing the front brake. This resulted in brake fluid squirting out all over the front of the bike. :(

If you are planning to do the same, do yourself a favour and get a vacuum pump to suck out the fluid, instead of pushing it out with the brake lever. This will be a lot cleaner and will ease the job too.

Because even if you cover the reservoir when squeezing the brake, the fluid inside is sloshing about. When you remove to cover to pour in more fresh brake fluid, those sticking to the cover can drip out if you are not careful. In a word it's messy. I know I will be investing in one on my next bleed.

Overall, I'm happy this stuff is out of the system. I'll make sure I do this at least once a year from now on.

No, mine is the 1100. I read only the 1150 models comes with servo assistance. Look at your photo at the top. That's the whole ABS module on my bike. Just 2 nipples pointing up and no opening for pouring in new brake fluid. All fluid has to go in through the front & rear reservoirs.

It is much less complicated than the 1150 ABS with servo assist, with 6 nipples to bleed and 2 openings for pouring in brake fluid. I am glad mine doesn't come with these. :cheeky:

If you are thinking of doing it, I can give you a hand. Like holding the funnel and pouring in brake fluid while you drain. But like I said, I have never tried it before so I might be more of a hindrance than help. Your call.

I see.

I have to make a trip down to PML to check the history first. With the servo, i am afraid that i might not close the valve in time before the fluid runs out! Talking about speedbleeders!

Speedbleeders and funnel.

PML servicing cost. Be assured that everything would be good with the diagnose after bleeding, especially when it comes to brakes.

Hmmm, have to weigh. Thanks for the offer to help.

For Haynes service manual, try the major bookstores. If they don't have stock, see if they can order for you.

If you don't mind the online version, do a google search and there should be plenty available. Or maybe Enjoy can tell you where he got his free version.

Like Blackie said, there is hardly any useful info in the Owners manual, at least, nothing that you can't find on the web.
