hi fellow BMW riders,

anyone had problem with faulty ABS module? Am riding a R1150R and the ABS lights blink continuously.

You had similar problems, and how do you fix it? Any shop in SGP to recommend?

Thanks in advance

Either low batt or low brake fluid.

Check both to be safe.

Low fluid problem could be caused by extra thin brake pads.

So check that as well.

Batt is a suspect but I think it is more likely that your ABS/servo module is buggered. I disabled mine cos' I did not like the servos. Changed to braided lines, and then I disable the warning light fuse. I think the servos were a mistake insofar as non-high speed riding are concerned. They made the brakes binary i.e. on/off and the feel was pretty bad.

Cheers

i think its neither battery or brake fluid because those are replaced before and the blinking persists. I suspect what Coolcat says is right - the servo is gone! Last check with PML to replace the entire servo and wiring would set me back a good $3k plus. Bro coolcat, where did you fix your braided lines and disable the fuse? Able to recommend me? PM if possible.

By disabling the ABS module will it affect the braking entirely?

Thanks all

There is a possiblity that the filter inside the Servo unit is stuck causing pressure build up inside the unit.

Do a search in ADV on this and you should be able to find the thread.

No bro, havent reset the ABS. Will find a time to do so. Perhaps will just disable the entire ABS like what bro coolcat suggested. Hope that works.

Hiya,

The braking after the servo-tomy is better for me. Bear in mind that it is not solving a faulty ABS in that it is removal of the ABS system. I did not like the servos because it was tough to give a little brake at the rear with them when lane-splitting etc. The disabling is not difficult, and I reckon that you also lose quite a few kilos by taking out the servo unit. Bear in mind that you will lose the ABS, but the steelbraided lines give the bike a better feel for braking to me, and it was something that I was prepared to lose the ABS for. You will need to install a non-ABS rear brake switch after the mod. I also had some brakelines made up for me, although I would think that non-ABS brakelines should fit off the rack.

I also did a service on the ABS some time before doing the servo-tomy. It involved sucking out the brake fluid from the unit in a certain sequence.

The servos were great at stopping at high speeds, but without them it is not inadequate. I did mine at Stamford working with Alex, but I understand that he is now taking it easy and only working on his old customers i.e. friends' machines nowadays. I figure that this is something that Alan of Perfection Motors can carry out. Why not check with him?

Cheers

Hiya guys,

for does of you want to bypass your ABS system completely and go for braided line. I use venhill powerplus products from UK. Motovation in Singapore stocks them. The lines are sold parts by parts like brake line, banjo bolts, washers, etc.... No special tools required except 11mm and 8mm wrenches.

Why I remove my ABS...

Sand on road, slam my brakes, abs activate, crash...

took me about an hour or 2 at most to change the lines and yank the whole servo thingy like a bad tooth.

ride safe..

Anyone with a problem with the mirrors, particularly on GS. It keeps getting loose despite tightening it. Any help appreciated..

Yeah me too. Its due to the reverse thread on the bolts. Once u start to loosen the mirrors for some reason, its kinda tricky to tighten them back.

Gonna change mine and throw away the reverse threaded bolts cos i've no idea y they designed it that way..

Sure can.. But at times i do rail the bikes over from Hatyai to say, BKK.

Its the "bike carrying into the train"part over in hatyai will be a problem cos you will need to loosen the mirrors so as not to break it in there.

Well, at least thats my experience.

To fold the mirrors, u only need to loosen very little right? And with loctite still in the thread it will still be effective for 2-3 times of loosening and tightening ... it will still be much tighter than without. : )

That is a good deal. Changed my batt 2 wks back from PML. Cost $220 DOUBLE!

Tot its a different batt but when i opened it, its Yuasa. Can't remember the model no.

:faint::cry:

It should be YTX14H-BS. Longer lasting and higher CCA.

PML giving warrenty for their battery too! :)

YTX14-BS is the cheaper version which most shops are selling.

Was doing a fair bit of research on lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4), seems like it might be the way to go for those who don't ride very often.

Wanted to try out, however only changed the battery not long ago.

Slow down abit, smell the air and enjoy the scenery.

Caught the touring bug once again!

But I do know now why it comes off easily. Was trailing at TM yesterday with a few super tens, had a few bad falls in the dirt, well the mirrors didnt break coz it managed to swing inside. If use loctite, im sure the mirror arms will stay but the mirror itself will break..

How you tighten the mirrors is the same as with any other bikes.

BMW bikes do not come with some magical form of tightening.

Yup, same concept.. So will be changing mine to a more hassle free kinda mirrors but still do serve the same purpose.

are those spikes?

Yap, the $2 per pc kind sold in Daiso. But after the pic was taken some low-life stepped on them and broke many spikes. Since they are made of rubber they break easily when stepped on. Someone also threw used tissues on them, use them as frisbee, etc. When I protect my bike against strays I have problems with Singaporean a**holes. Oh, the joy of parking in HDB carpark!

Anyone know the engine oil pml gives on new bike are full synthetic or semi synthetic??

I asked before but I don't remember anymore. I no longer going back to agent.

What I know is my bike always looses power after their service, ended up I find my own solution.

Yo... tot of doing the same. So where would you go to tune the engines then? And to deactivate the so ever annoying servicing timer?

PM me if you should.. Thanks
