no chain can last long w/o proper lubing ... so your question should be asking yourself...how commited are u to lubing ur chain frequently (unless u have a scott oiler) ... if lazy bum...get a normal chain ...not so lazy bum....O ring....if you siao on garang one clean/wash/wax/polish/lube bike everyday ...get X-ring

the difference between o ring and x ring is ...imagine this ...O ring equal piaking ur gf when she sleeping.....x-ring equal piaking ur gf with KY+lots of juice ....which one got more friction ? ...go figure

On the contary....

The cheapest chain (so called heavy-duty chain) requires the most lubing and cleaning. Why? They do not trap the lube as efficiently as the X and O-rings.

Why are O-ring chain called O-ring chain? Basically, in-between each chain pieces, there's a piece of O-ring that reduces the friction between the chain pieces and at the same time trapping the lube there and keeping the dust and grit out. What is an O-ring? Basically its a piece of rubber ring, shaped in an O. Look out for it the next time you change your chain.

X-ring has the same concept as the O-ring except this time the piece of rubber ring is shaped differently thus allowing it to reduce even more friction, and trapping more lube between the chain pieces.

The O-ring and X-ring between the chain pieces also acts as a damping for sudden acceleration and engine brake. This reduces the stretch thus tightening need not be so frequent.

So you see, the "trapping lube" properties of O-ring and X-ring makes it much more convenient to maintain. Lubing need not be that frequent (once every 500km). In fact, from my experience, over-lubing the chain causes much more side effects. Never think that by putting more lube on the chain, the longer it will last.

When you over-lube, even more dust and grit will cling on. Then either you clean, your chain or you change your chain. When you clean your chain, certain substances used might damage the o-ring (Duh! it's rubbber!) or X-ring and cause more harm than good.

Another thing, ask yourself, whats your riding style? Issit really necessary to get a X-ring? Or is an O-ring good enough?

Depends oso on the type of lube used..

Those sticky aerosols like rockoil really can attract grits man!

But if use EO then more and frequent would be better for the chain, gd lubricant but tends to fling so dirt gets flung off too... onto the rims, haha! (but i prefer dirty rims to dirty chains)

I agree using O-ring is gd enuff if riding ur bike for daily transport. The shops usually rekomend u to use it or x ring along with ur non-original sprockets.

a fren of mine who has ridden several bikes says thru his xperience ,that the STOCK sprockets and chain lasts the longest.Once u replace them,no matter what brand, they cannot last as long.

Interesting eh

Well, warm bullshits are the main reasons why i do not buy stuff from LAB especially when that part is critical componet that affects performance and safety.

its a locking mechanism to hold the joint of chain from breaking off..

when u buy a chain it doesn't come as a loop. meaning with two ends to cater for certain required chain length. so when bike shop fix a chain to ur bike they need to close a loop. then they install the one segment of a chain n then put a chain clip to prevent it from running away..

advisable to change one set...

It is 'advisable' to change the whole set however not 'necessary'.

The wear of the chain and wear of the sprocket is not the same due to maybe the history of the bike's parts replacement..(maybe last time change one part but not the other)

Therefore if the teeth of the sprocket still okie, why waste $$ change the whole set?.. It all boils down to how much u trust your mech. Before changing the sprocket, I suggest u ask for other's opinions and let them have a look at your sprocket(those who know how to see the condition).

It may also be the front sprocket only like what CasI-I said. So ask a few parties to look at your sprocket and then decide whether to change or not..

Hope this helps..

i faced the same problem before.. the chain alway bite on my rear spocket ..

the tight part of the chain is where the sound is coming from...

better change it and oil urs chain 1 time in 2 weeks to pro-long the chain life span...

if u jus change the chain or spocket only, u'll speed up the wear & tear
