Yamaha Motor Company was founded as a motorcycle manufacturer on July 1, 1955. From the very beginning and have worked to build products that stand out for their quality wherever they are sold. And through these same products, they had committed themselves to contributing to a higher quality of life for people all over the world. Over the years, Yamaha have made their proprietary engine and fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) technologies the basis of their strategy for expansion and diversification.

 

As urban congestion has worsened around the world, demand for affordable, accessible two-wheeled transport has grown apace. Yamaha Motor has responded to this demand with innovative models that move beyond the traditional 50cc scooter into new types of compact, energy-efficient motorcycles that are an important means of transportation in the daily lives of the people. The present market demand of 330,000 units (1996) has been growing at an annual rate of 5%, with underbone type models constituting more than 80% of the total demand.
