i've been seeing alot of LTA/TP people camping at alot of different spots lately!

lucky i always look out for them so i've never had any trouble with the law.

but just wondering. for those mobile speed traps. do they count the speed only after you pass them or they can target you from a distance away to know your speed?

memento mori

read up abit on it online.. there's quite a fair bit on the different types of speed cameras..

there's generally 2 types:

1) one that uses radar.

2) one that uses sensors on road to calculate speed by using 2 pts on the road. smth like that.

commonly, they're called Gatso and Truvelo speed cameras and there's many more.

i think more common is the Gatsp one.... (an example would probably be the one on PIE after Eng Neo Road).

it uses radar.. when ur vehicle exceeds the limit that the system set, it triggers the camera to take the photos...

as for the mobile ones the TP holds... [got this off wiki.]

"Fixed or mobile speed camera systems that measure the time taken by a vehicle to travel between two or more fairly distant sites (from several hundred metres to several hundred kilometres apart) are called automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. These cameras time vehicles over a known fixed distance, then calculate the vehicle's average speed for the journey. The name derives from the fact that the technology uses infrared cameras linked to a computer to "read" a vehicle's registration number and identify it in real-time."

so i guess as long as u're in a comfortable range from view from the speed cameras, u're probably able to get caught.

the cameras may not always be in the right as the photos maybe hard to decipher by the TP or some sort.. case by case ah.

the photo used is only to id ur registration number, the device already serve as proof u're speeding, and the camera cannot be activated by the person using.

unless u're travelling @ 300km/h, which excees the camera's shuttle speed, which then they'll get a blurred photo, that's when they cannot catch u.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

300 very dangerous leh. later drop till 290 how?

lol, i'm just taking an example, cos i'm pretty sure unless they use a very high end sports camera with high shuttle speed, they can't catch u @ 300km/h or even with any TP car or bikes.

the point is as long u're too fast for the shuttle speed, the picture they're going to get is a blur, thus cannot catch u.

Newer cameras track your speed via infrared lasers.

Btw no matter how fast you go you'll still be caught, with a nice picture to show in court.

Think about how you get to watch MotoGP, F1, in full HD... and how photographers can take so nice photographs during motor races with their telescopic lenses.. I think you' get the picture.

i heard some device track by ur IU, so unless u dont have n ur plate is covered, then easily stop by TP, u cant run away in SG.

in case you didnt realise, the speedo's on our machine are inaccurate figures. therefore, 100 on ure speedo may not actually be 100 in actual kinetic forces. try hooking a gps to your bike or car and check it against ure speedo readings. Food for thought. also, i believe there are safe brackets in which + - a few km/h would be alright. therefore the genuine question.

i base on what's written, not assuming anything, was speedo or gps ever stated? u should always know ur real speed n not second guess what's what on the road. a tp book u @ 100km/h, can u tell him ur speed only 60km/h base on whatever, similarly, u tell a tp u know the road is 90km/h, yet u travelled 100km/h, will he book u? that's food for thought for u. also, never play with bracket, bracket is there for those "in case" scenerio; u play with fire, u'll get burnt. eg, road is 90km/h, u travelled 100km/h, speed cam didn't catch u cos of bracket, u think tp clocking u @ 100km/h wont book u? try telling him there's a bracket and see what he reply. still think that's a genuine question?

the real genius answer was given by madman, dont speed n u never have to worry about anything. if u dont know the meaning of speeding, dont drive/ride.

my apologies for the unclear and unstated facts. and to the best of my understanding, forums were created for the general purpose of discussion and for individuals to pose genuine questions. the rising trend of flamers is shocking with some doing it as a hobby or even to past time. you may be experienced with riding / driving and thus petty questions are deemed redundant by you. there's always a choice to not reply as compared to giving unconstructive and snide remarks. therefore, if you dont know the purpose of a forum, dont visit one.

Dont mistake my comments for hostility.

yap.. and assuming car A is not speeding but car B speeding and got snap while in line with car A.. how would they know which is speeding?

If 2 cars and 1 bike exceed the limit at the same time, will a fixed speed trap able to capture all 3 vehicles?

speed and be home 5 mins early or 7 days late.
