Let me explain the situation in a form of a story.

So let's say Tom has just passed his 2B license.

He haven't gotten a bike, so obviously he hasn't paid for insurance and road tax.

One day in school, Tom realised that he forgotten to bring an important document to school that day and had to rush home. However, there wasn't enough time for him to take public transport back home and back to school. Nor did he have enough cash to take a cab. Jack (his friend) offered him to ride his bike home and back to get his document. Tom accepted it.

So Tom was riding from home and proceeding back to school calmly when he was stopped by TP. When asked to produce his insurance and license, he was only able to produce the latter.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO HIM? o_O

I thought it would be something less serious than both kenna revoke license.

wait till someone who is very much senior and familiar to confirm this answer.

i remember correctly was the owner has the responsibility to know that he/she is not allow to lend the motorcycle, because there is no insurance coverage.

if owner agree to lend u. the owner and rider both will be revoke.

Unless owner twist story. Rider stole the bike and rode it. thn owner will be safe.

but Rider license will be revoke and 1 additional charge for stealing.

Hello! Anyone there?

Can I count myself as Senior?

If yes, I confirm LaVsy's comments.

If no, I still confirm that LaVsy's comments.

Well, you thought. We hopefully corrected that notion. And we hope that the rest of the world will keep confirming to hopefully prevent such reckless/careless attitudes against lives on the roads.

if not enough time to take the public transport, he should have took a taxi.

anyway both will get their license revoked, one got no insurance, one is the owner of the bike.

unless he says that his bike was 'stolen' by his friend lor, and his friend will get an additional charge for stealing

won't kena stealing, can say e.g 'take w/o permission, owner left keys on the key also."

my friend nvr got kena charge for stealing only w/o insurance.

"taking without permission" wasnt it an act of stealing too?

anyway the judge will have the final say.

Taking without permission, is Theft. Its stealing. (Should I emphasise on the fullstop?)

Your friend never ganna charge for stealing. Then be thankful. Remember to pray to god, allah & whichever deities you & your friend subscribed to, that the IO neglected that portion and saved the owner of the bike. (IOs nowadays, so much younger and lazier to throw the book at such offenders. Tsk..tsk....)

both kena gantong. if ure smart, better is to save yr friend. which is, like what they said. u ride the bike w/o permission. worst come to worst, u kena charge as stealing. then this part cool, yr friend can drop the case against you. insist that yr friend dont want charge you. case closed.

Please know what you are talking about before misleading the rest.

there is a classification of driving a vehicle without permission but it does not amounts to stealing.

i clarified this with a IO who served in TP for 20yrs

iirc tp dont serve a law for driving without permission. it's chargeable under civil court under theft. thus pls clarify what u mean of the difference.

edit: there's a few classification of theft under civil law, although none write in b/w saying driving without permission, but they are the same meaning; acquiring/utilizing a property not belonging to u=stealing/theft or whatever u call it. thus like vicious said below, pls clarify what u mean n under which law.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

what u expect? u think if dash red light only kenna fine? pls wake up. the law is there to protect us. think about it, what if ur friend got into accident, who will cover ur friend? bike is not like car, where a simple tom or harry with a lic can drive.

edit: perhaps 30yrs ago ur friend might be all right, but today law has changed cos of high accident rate of bikes (told by driving center instructor). insurance is not going to cover another rider, both the owner/sub rider/friend must have their own insurance. btw even pillion must have license to be coverd, although not compulsory by law to sit on a bike.

Ah tee arh,

you are finally back arh?

So what is that classification? Can point it out to me properly? Because I flip, flipped & even flayed that little traffic offence book of mine from 11 years ago, still cannot find that classification. Was that particular law just part of the 20 years TPIO SOP or part of the Singapore gahment gazetted law that was shunted to a corner of TP side for this purpose of classifying 'driving without permission'?

Can intro me that IO? I love learning from really experienced people.

ey chinese new year donch fight lah

Where got fight?

We are just seeking to learn.

I didnt realised that I mislead the general public here with my explanation of 'taking without permission' is theft.

But ah_tee pointed out that I was misleading, because his understanding is for 'driving without permission' is not theft.

We are looking to only clarifications for us poor un-advised by TPIO 20 years experience with our enlightened ah_tee.
