i usually park my bike on an open surface carpark coz my area doesn't have a mscp. I'm riding a Spark and sometimes it looks kinda foolish to always cover up my bike when its raining.

I wonder if you guys usually just leave ur bike uncovered or cover it incase it rains. If so it rains, does anything major deteoriates like the block piston etc...?

dont bother to cover, usually i park near the covered walkway, when it rains, it's partitally wet. heavy rain confirm soaked. so far only have rusty screws n exhaust keep rusting, but i take care of it by applying anti rust agent. the support frame for the back tyre also rusted, but painted back. engine wise, no major issue.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

i'll just cover rain or shine.

over time, the rain will rust the components. and if your screw get rusted, it might seize. and trust me, a seized screw is not fun. at all.

anyways, once or twice ok la. just make sure the bike is cleaned up after the rain.

i've seen bikes left in the weather for extended periods, wah, the bike may be young, but looked like it aged overnight.

Usually the first thing to rust is undercarriage metal parts and exposed metallic screws. Rust will depend on quality of rustproofing and surface finish - it's very noticeable to a trained eye if the bike was left parked in the rain over the years (tells you whether owner really cares about the bike or not).

As aforesaid nothing wrong to cover it anyway.

If it rains heavily, a $25 cover will be soaked as well although your bike will not be drenched. if you have faith in humanity, use your raincoat and cover.

External screws will be rusted, although a quick remedy via wd40 can be done. Water may seep into fuel tanks but most bikes have water fuel separators so that's solved for you. Paintjobs will detoriate, short term effects like unable to pick up speed and slight bogging for 3km or so after a rain. Remember to dry your brakes by braking intermittently on the move before picking up speed. Bikes are supposed to be waterproofed, but a certain degree of care will bring you a long way

When the winds resist my impetus and sights become passing shadows. Every other sound is voided, all but the undeniable roar of my engine.

My physical vision recepts naught, but my mind is tranquil.

I see my inner soul.

Nice tip. High end cars like BMW X5 have a feature that 'skims' the brakes during wet weather to keep the brake pads dry.

On a bike, you don't need that fancy electronic stuff. Manual skimming ftw :3

Bogging down in rain?

Some bikes perform better when ingesting intake air with high water vapour content. It's like water injection on WW2 fighters :D

Warning: Kopitiam engineering diploma required :D

mine may be 5 yr old bike, but it can look like it barely passed a year. :cheeky:

My bike is testament to both situations haha, I'm thinking it's cold ambient air? Not so much water

Make it a habit to cover the bike.. My advise, cover the exhaust hole with a spraycan cap to avoid moisture from entering the exhaust.. Your bike may look like it barely pass a year on the outside, but on the inside, its a different story..

my two babes..
