North up trip in April

Hi all, Initially I planned to go Hatyai during Songkran period 10-16April. But by the time I decided, can't find any hotel online in Hatyai. Therefore I would like to seek the all experiences on this. The worst case if no hotel available or advise, I will just go north-up slowly by the msia east coast and enter Thai 1 day after the Songkran. If I travel by east coast, any recommendation for the place to stop for sight seeing or hotel?
