I was at Chiap Lee (Serangoon Rd) yesterday and their customer's service was very poor! Maybe they only entertain "Ang Mos". bcos there were two of them there. One of the twin bro was attending to them. They must go for "Customer's Service" training.

I was there to enquire the Clover water resistant jackets on behalf of my company to purchase min. 30 pcs, it cost approx. S$450 each. I asked the other twin bro whether he could give a better discount for min. of 30 pcs, his reply was 15% and he just walked away. I was surprised at his attitude towards their customers. He did not even offer me to view their collection range or provide futher info on the products. No other customer was with him at that time.

Chiap Lee will definately be out of my enquiry / shopping list!!

Hi Bro,

No worries, I'm just sharing my experience, not angry at all :-).

I'm in the process of comparing the quality and quotes before getting approval. Clover was one of the brands I had in my list, now it's history.

Thanks.

Hey bro'.

those twins are the worst lot of the Chiap Lee brood. they have a bad atttitude too. Clover jackets are actually not suitable for local use as it is too hot for the tropics. If u are using it in Singapore for r company, suggest u use the ventilated Egg Parka jackets. They provide excellent protection against concussion injuries to the fatal areas of the body. These are air-buffeting jacket whc provides excellent protection in an accident.

Clover jackets only protects the rider against road rash kind of injuries, but not impact-concussion. U can also buy the jackets under a company finance scheme under Hitachi Credit, whc allows r company to spread the cost. Remeber alsmot all jsckets that have been into Singapore are suitable for European climate, but not for the tropics! You probably get heat-stroke after a fere hours! I am wearing an Egg Parka jacket for the last 8 yrs. They are the best!!

Thanks for the recommendation.

Got the hit air summer jackets with water resistant liners several years ago, about 60pcs for each biker. Most of them preferred the lighter ones. Their feedback was, the CO2 cartridge is "bulky" and jacket quite heavy compared to the normal ones. The price is quite steep even after discount.

Ya, i'm also one of those that have received Bad Attitude fr the twin bros, but have no wish to elaborate further... its rather true that they tend to serve a "certain group" of customers better....

You might have a father that's rich enough to give

you a bike shop or accessories shop.

And my dad can only give me the ability to ride.

What your dad didn't teach you is he depends

on my father to survive.

Hope that all riders in singapore join me.

Do not buy from them......

The twin brother don't need us.

They don't need our smelly money.

They rather keep their goods than

to sell it to us "beggers" with a $5 discount.

I was really turn off by their ' buy then can try' attitude also.

Was there looking for an Arai or a Momo helmet, went into their shop and look at all the helmet on display and none of the sales even try to serve me. They were busy serving a pair of guys speaking with a AngMo slang. When I saw the sign pasted on the display, I went out immediately. Went and buy myself a X9 after that.

I am a regular customer at Chiap Lee, bought 5 helmets from them since 2003. my last 4 helmets from the eldest twin brother and countless accessiories. The younger twin brother is not as helpful, he would always quote a price and walk away. I don't know why he does that but that is his style. The older twin brother is very knowledgable abt Arai and Clover products hence I only deal with him.

Actually it was very bad service from Chong Aik that drove me to buy from Chiap lee when I first bought an expensive helmet. As the parts are interchangeable so I always stick with Arai.

In regards to them serving better to Ang Mos, I do not agree but it is quite true that most of the Ang Mos who walk in for the 1st time when I was in the shop, they would buy on the spot while Asians like me would ponder a few trips b4 deciding. So after many years working in the same shop, I think this is one of the reasons why the brothers form these habits. Arai products speak for itself, just like Toyota.

This is just my personal experience and opinion, pls do not flame me.

Sep 02 to Oct 02- Black Cagiva Planet (1 word Lousy)

Oct 02 to Oct 03- Yellow RXZ133 (Too light for me)

Oct 03 to Mar 05- White Purple CBR 400RR (Not enough style & power)

Dec 06- Dec 07- Black VFR 800 (Good bike but not my style, thks for the memories)

You are comparing a top end helmet brand with a brand more famous for their pick-ups than their cars.

Does Chiap lee has another shop along jalan besar ? because that shop carries MOMO helmet too. I stood at the MOMO helmet showcase for like 10mins, no one bother to serve me. One guy at the counter was too busy staring outside, another guy was busy convincing an ang-mo that the riding pants he was trying was not too tight for him.

Anyway I will re-visit the shop again when i am free, hope I get some service. Anyone knows of another place selling MOMO helmets ?

If Im not wrong, they got like 5 shops altogether, main & branches.

2 with main name, 3 others another name(with 2 in similar).

HQ @ Serangoon Rd, another behind LAB(along Jalan Besar), 1 along Lavender Street, another before POSB atm along Jalan Besar there & lastly is @ Macpherson there?

Correct me if Im wrong.

As for their serivces, why bother to get pissed off over it?

Though its understandable that their pay-1st-then-can-try strategy is abit stupid, but think of this, an Arai cost alot. What IF someone gives a try w/o paying up 1st, & ran away? Whose gona bear the cost?

If one has decided to get an Arai, pay up, then u can try whatever size/colour/design u like. :thumb:

My motto when I vist there is that, window shopping is free, fcuk them if they dont serve, only when Im decided that Im gona get something frm them then I query frm all of their shops(quite near to each other) for their best quote.

So far, the one located along Lavender Street gives me the best prices.

i m not teaching them how to do business

but responding to your statement, if u have this mindset as a businessman, u r dead wrong,

selling a product dosent mean u only cater those who can afford, u r the ultimate if u can make those who cant afford buy from you as well

we r not talking abt cheap stuffs here, and we are locals, western currencies are stronger

jus like when i shop in msia or bangkok, i also shop without blinking an eye

so i feel its not a fair arguement here

There is no argument, I present my view, some others present their views, U present your view.

The following are my personal view

I am in customer service serving bank customers for the past 6 years plus so I think I know a little bit on customer service.

Chiap Lee is a Chinese family business so they do business in accordingly to their own style.

Like what the rest said, if U hated their style then don't buy from them. I also felt that with better customer service, they would be able to win a lot more customers. The items they are selling is really very expensive and warrants a lot of consideration.

Yo Bro Gixxer, its ok we can look quotations from elsewhere, but i do not agree of must buy 1st and try later. The walk away attitude is even worst.I guess no customers in the WORLD can condone that kind of treatment.Of coz for us Asians might be too steep but doesn't mean we can't buy.As far as we can see its not a prob becoz most Bikers in S'pore can afford a $15k-$35k kind of bikes.

My point is,its not about money, race, religion, currencies, buying power....etc,it all boils down to Customer Service and Customer Satisfaction. If their service is gd,don't you tink that we will come back again and also recommend friends to their shop.:cheer:

Well said Ah Tee and Wanzz......buy or don't buy, in business must treat customers equally. I've never come across the "Pay Then Can Try" policy. It's ridiculous!

In business it doesn't matter whether the customers buy now / later or never, regardless of skin colour. Customers can ask relevant questions on the products and if the salesperson has good customer's service and knowledge of his products he will definately sell it. If the customer can't afford it he or she will recommend friends / colleagues to the shop bcos of the good customer's service.

With that kind of business attitude I've experienced, I will never recommend any of my friends and colleagues to that shop. There are other better quality brands than Clover, Momo, Arai etc.........
