Hi guys i remember last time when we buy a brand new tyre , we can paste some kinda protective coating from the inside so tat it reduces the chance of a puncture.

I really cant seem to recollect whats the brand or procedure , do any of u remember? And how much does it cost?

I'm not sure if there is anyone retailing tyre armour but what I thought of doing is to inflate the tyre using Fix-A-Flat, which has a self-sealing compound inside its aerosol mix. But this may not be very smart as the "sealing goo" inside it probably works best if there is a puncture and the goo seals it shut (hence the name Fix-A-Flat).

In a "tyre armour" scenario there will be no puncture to attract the goo and it will just stick randomly everywhere inside the tyre and rim as it is inflated.

There are some tyre brands out there offering superior puncture resistance, you may wish to check them out. Brands like Metzeler (favourite Phantom tyre) are so durable they can last upwards of 30,000km (the tread is like, one inch thick!?) and can be used off-road if underinflated (for grip in mud and sand).

There are car tyres too with reinforced Kevlar sidewalls.... if you like to use your car to mount kerbs :)

Probably you are referring to Rhinotyre:

Basically a coating on the inner side of the tyres, so if so happens that the tyre got a puncture, the coating will seal off that hole.

There are some reviews and comments on such stuff, you can find on the Net. Got some say the goo will stick to the rims, got some say they are a god-send...etc.

But do you really need it?

Unless it's a absolutely clean applicant w/o mess and with price being reasonable, then probably yes. Maybe will be good for a long haul trip up north.

Else, we really got to see.

Cool! Looks like a neat spray on application but may need specialised equipment. Since it bonds to the inside of the tyre there should be no mess if applied and bonded correctly.

If I am not wrong, the coating seals the puncture to a certain extent. Probably good enough for the bike to limp to a workshop for full repairs.

Then again, my take is that the coating cost should not be excessive.

Else, a can of Fix it when going north will be the same solution.

I actually thought of getting either one, but the reviews on the Net is that the goo will cause some problems (sticking on the rims) when you change the tyres.

2nd thing is the cost.

Cheers.
