Honda Blackbird CBR1100 XX

Greetings my fellow Blackbird owners/riders.

I just got my bird today. Hope to learn more on this bike. Went to Alai, he asked me if the valve clearance has been done.. I'm not sure and the seller said hasn't responded to my query.

 

Is there any signs to check for to know that it's better to do the valve clearance?

 

Also, I got 25 from the fi.. Owner said can ignore.. Alai said if ignore, can cause the whole big to die down one day.. is this true?

Yup. Agreed with you. Alot of fond memories. No doubt Honda parts interchangeable. But due to some sizes and lengths, unfortunately cant help it. For more than 10 years of riding it, with 1 mechanic servicing my bike. Except for almost a year plus now with Alai becos previous mechanic cant do it anymore.

Hey there buddy, am a newbie here and just spotted your question on USD forks.

Getting it out of the way, I am based in Brunei and yes USD has been done up on the Bird. I did mine with Kawasaki ZX14 (2009) forks with its rotors, callipers and brake lines running on a Kawasaki ZX10 (2006-2007) front wheel (chose this wheel as its axle bolt is the same diameter as the Bird). I also matched the rear with the ZX10 wheel - was optional as I wanted to have matching wheels and it was relatively painless bolt on install after snipping off the rear brake mount bracket.

 

To be an almost bolt on plug and play, you will need a Honda RC51 SP1 triple tree. There are other Honda triples that would bolt right on but slightly more hassel. And larger clip ons to accommodate. Front fender wise you can have your choice of whichever is cosmetically preferred but I chose the ZX10 2011 fender and mounted it with some custom brackets that any decent machine shop could make for $20 ( a little measuring required to line things up )

 

I see you are considering the Busa front end which is a good choice but not as painless as what I had done as there will be more fiddling and mods to suit the triple to clear the radiator etc. In fact the Honda SP1 is practically a plug and play but its forks tech is from 2001 and the ZX14 tech is newer and set to similar weight of Blackbird. ( Both are about 250KG). There are other forks to consider but if your going with the Busa route, I can show you a link on eBay for a feller that does plug and play custom triple specifically for it. I chose the ZX14 so I didn't end up getting those as I wanted to keep it as stock as possible. I am also still using all my handle bar controls - no need to change - brake master will still actuate the radial brakes with no problem - I have much much much better feel and braking power compared to before. I often wonder how much better would it be if I gotten the Brembo 19 RCS from Unique Motorsports sometimes!! =)
