... i will not vote to oust someone like george yeo for a 'dumb oppo mp'.

How can dump opposition MP vote someone like George Yeo's out? Only work hard and work smart can achieve this.

i fairly apply it to oppo mp's as well: you dont get a free ride just coz you are oppo so you must be given experience; you must prove you are worth my vote.

explain to me why it is not biased to say give low-quality oppo free ride for the sake of giving them experience

Opposition never have free ride. Evidence? won 39.9% of vote, but with 7.3% of seats only

The opposite is true: Opposition always has much more bumpy ride, something not suitable for low quantity leaders.

So oppositions are spartans, PAP are softies. Despite "losing" in the election, a few oppositions are still compiling facts and figures from the ground, updated via their facebook, they are trying to understand impact of policy on the people, review and review. Truly working like professionals. I am following a few of them, nicole, jeanette for mountbatten is doing it, and this 2 didn't "lose" by much in the polls.

Whereas some PAP mps, @?%£!¥#, enough is enough man.

Did I blame PAP ?? "My colleague voted PAP in in Tampines. I feel very sad for him"

or r u " They must have put something in the air / water in Tampines... " ???

Friend, i was not "flaming" ( whatever that means ? ) you. Please don't misunderstand me.

i was just giving a gentle reminder to NOT YOU BUT OTHERS that

WE GOT WHAT WE VOTE FOR.

WE GOT WHAT WE DESERVE.

There are people that are still "hoping" that PAP will start to "change" & listen but based on my memory, they always promise to do so pre-, during & post election time. 6 months after every election, it is all forgotten. This has been going for the past 20 years as far as i can recall.

"Hope" is comforting. I also "hope" to strike million dollars toto.

WINNERS SET THE RULES.

Losers "whine", "complain", & "HOPE" winners will "change".

The best way to get them to change or change the unfair system is to win 1st. Lose & all you got is "hope".

Although it is not entirely impossible ( who knows, maybe PAP will really change this time ) but then i might just strike ToTo too...:cheeky:

I like this post the best.

Even George Yeo admitted that his voice for transformation within the PAP was a MINORITY VOICE. Now that he is gone, and with PAP holding 90+% of the seats, you think they will change? Maybe they will SAY SORRY in 2016 again lah...

6 seats, lose one foreign minister, we all lost if we were hoping for change.

My humble views on the opposition parties:

Yes, I respect their bravery and patriotism.

But honestly, I have my doubts on their policies and manifestos.

Lets see:

1) Introduce min wage: $6.50 per hour.

Sounds good right? I rmb i use to work for only $5/Hr back then. But friends, in Business 101, any cost that increases, the cost would only be transfered to the consumers. If that is really implemented, we can get ready to see lagi higher cost of living. Simple example, certain fast food chain now paying less then $4/Hr. You force them pay $6.50/hr. To retain their profit margin, we will prbly have to pay 40% higher then what we are paying today. Its simply one vicious cycle. It is time like these that the work fare scheme sounds more appropriate.

2) Extend childcare subsidy to stay home mums.

Maybe I am a very selfish person, but I dont see why a mother who choose to stay home, deserve childcare subsidy. I tot thats the whole point of staying home? to look after the child yourself? How come I must end up paying more taxes etc just because you are too lazy to look after your own childre?

3) Blah blah blah & negativity about the IRs.

Lets look at the big picture. for a plot of land that is less than 1.5Km X 1.5Km, and can generate 1.2% to our country's GDP, I'd say, good job, well done. You can argue about social problems and all that, but seriously, we are adults. everyone has to bear the consequences of their actions. Thats why we need a min age to enter right? no?

4) Reduce NS to 1-1.5years

Honestly, abit too short la. I know prime years of a guy. I also had to serve the nation. But 1 year really abit short la.

5) Housing prices, cost of living etc.

Yeah, these I agree.

6) High Pay of office

Honestly, lets not undervalue "Good Governance".

Say what you want, but the party managed to steer us clear out of the 2008/2009 recession, fast, effectively and smoothly.

Even first world nations like USA & Europe had difficulties steering clear. Be glad we do not live in a country where the Govt owns the people Billions of dollars. Or require bailouts like many Europern countries.

7) Remove GST for necessities.

Again, sounds good right?

In my example, we assume mineral water as a necessities la. I mean, everyone need to drink water right?...

BUT. We have a wide range prices just in the "Mineral water" category alone. Eg: Lower End - Ice Moutain ($0.80). Higher End - Evian ($3-4)

Like then then how? Do we exclude GST for both? We would just be creating a mess. What about the "Sandwich Products"? charge GST or not? Basically we are jsut gonna make the system more complex. For nothing.

Furthermore, what would be considered necessities? What I need may not be what you need.

Conclusion:

I am too lazy to continue finding faults here, similar to the opposition parties, we are good at finding faults. But can we present a solution? an effective one that would have a lower probability for error?

I find that the opposition parties merely tells you what we would like to hear. Lower Gst, no Gst, reduce NS duration, min wages etc. At the end of the day, they too know that it would not be implemented. They would stand in parliment, propose, then guai guai sit down again.

Base on that alone, I entrust my vote and support to the party that is more capable, with good track records.

Lol, flame me for being myopic (maybe), naive or even brain washed, but these are merely my thoughts. Feel free to comment.

You remember you use to work for only $5/Hr. When was that?

You also know there are people who works less than $4/Hr. This is 20% decrease, and you think this decrease pay can enable you to cope with climbing Swiss cost of living?

With $4/hr, you sure can buy 3 rooms flat easily, because MBT said it is affordable.

Wiith $4/hr, you sure can pay class C hosiptal bills easily, because TPL say it is low & afforable.

with $4/Hr, you sure can pay for Polytechnic & Unversity fee.

SG is one of few countries without miminium wages, and the only country with disproportion salary & increases pay-rise of ministries. So what impact on business cost more - miminium wages or huge pay for ministries & top civil servants - plus 8 months bonus for minstries, plus already huge salary, plus huge pay increase, plus allowance, plus free medical, plus pension etc. aren't these added much to business cost?

Lastly, Ex Speaker of Parliment Mr Tan Soo Khoon pointed rightly that "Government fees and charges contributing to the cost of doing business"

http://www.mof.gov.sg/budget_2003/debate_speech/pg14.html

3) Blah blah blah & negativity about the IRs.

Gambling is never just "we are adults, everyone has to bear consequences of their actions". If it is, then no need exclusion etc already.

Gambling make innocent children suffer, many families broken, many divorce, many crimes. Is this worth the 1.2% of GDP in 1.5Km * 1.5Km?

Which bigger picture you are avoiding, serious social problem that will pull our economic down or short term gain of 37.5% gambling tax?

Or may be increase in tax collection due to pawn shops booming business and law firms doing divorce case.

Most of all, if much % of your club/country main income come from jackpot, then you must have no conscience, hope that your customers lost more & more $$$, so that you have better salary & bonus.

4) Reduce NS to 1-1.5years

Honestly, abit too short la. I know prime years of a guy. I also had to serve the nation. But 1 year really abit short la.

In the past, it is impossible to imagine NS of less than 2 years, so is 5 days week.

I do not see why 1 year is not possible in future. Some countries had NS less than 1 year.

The problem is not if NS is necessary, but why locals are losing so much to Foreign Talents because of NS?

Imagine Foreign Talents become Citizens by about age 30, while you have 5-10 years more of reservist to do till 40 years. Do you mind these Foreign Talents to be your supervisor, and see you as problem with your weeks of in-camp training, for 10 years?

) High Pay of office

Honestly, lets not undervalue "Good Governance".

Say what you want, but the party managed to steer us clear out of the 2008/2009 recession, fast, effectively and smoothly.

losing $$$ billions aftermath of Lehman Brothers fall, and no accountability of it, is "good Governance"?

Yes, "the party managed to steer us clear out of the 2008/2009 recession, fast, effectively and smoothly"

how?

Continue influx of Foreign Talents, replacing locals, causing more locals to be jobless or salary depressed.

Yes, with foreign Talents replace local during recession, business cost sure lower, we get out of recession fast effectively and smoothly.

Let see how "Good Governance" managed Orchard Road flood

1984, Orchard road was flooded

http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/Story/A1Story20100616-222377.html

1999, New Paper stated Orchard road will never flood

http://singapore-lighthouse.blogspot.com/2010/06/freak-flood-again-now-at-orchard-road.html

2009 Nov 23, Highly pay Enviroment & water resource minister said the flooding in Bukit Timah was once in 50 years event.

http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews/Singapore/Story/A1Story20091123-181624.html

Less than 50 weeeks later, beginning of series of 6 floods

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Singapore_floods#Wednesday.2C_16_June_2010

2011 May 4, flood at Ang Mo Kio, Bishan. 1st time, and more to come?

http://news.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/Story/A1Story20110504-277114.html

Highly pay but can not deliver, is "Good goverance" to you?

Even first world nations like USA & Europe had difficulties steering clear. Be glad we do not live in a country where the Govt owns the people Billions of dollars. Or require bailouts like many Europern countries.

letting some countries to join a single Euro currency is a mistake, if you understandhow currency is valued. Also, ask yourself, why bailouts are mainly from Euro zone countries?

BTW, do you think PAP not issues Treasury Bills before?

It is easy to see that USA & Europe had difficulties sterring clear. But it is foolish to think that sub-prime mortage (yes, the term sub-prime mortage is out-dated, so guess why i used "old term") will not repeat here. Just look at good goverance of MBT.

Your example of mineral water is no diffeent from Dr Balakrishnan, when replied Lily Neo in 2007 parliment sitting "How much do you want? Do you want three meals in a hawker centre, food court or restaurant?"

http://www.todayonline.com/Hotnews/EDC110505-0000085/PAP-is-facing-a-tough-election--Vivian

Tap water is necessities, but not mimeral water. Drinking Tap water in SG wont harm.

Swiss has 2 ties of VAT (SG version of GST), 2.4% for basic necessities, and 7.6% for the rest. They have a strict list of what is necessities, e.g. basic bread, jackets etc, and what is not, e.g. computer games etc. If you buy basic bread & abolane at the same time, you pay 2 different VAT.

Contrary to what you think, it is not difficult to have 2 tie GST, since our ministeries are highly educated, and earning much more than ministries in Switzerland, who have been doing these for years.
