Bros,

If i go back to Boon Siew for first 3 servicing, will they use mineral oil? Or will they insist that i use syn oil??

And if i change the original horn to twin horn and hazard light, will it affect my warranty?

Do i need to go to Boon Siew in order for my warranty to be valid in the very first place?

Thanks, in advanced, for your time. =)

Think they will use mineral oil, the cheapest among all grade but most suitable oil to use when running in.

Not much effect using syn oil. I tried once during running in and it break down at less than 1000km. Basically, during running in, oil is to collect all the debris due to machining. Debris will also choke your oil filter.

So far I have not see any Euro rider dare to twit their bike for harzard light fear they will short circuit any electronics parts, which cost thousands of dollars to replace. This is not covered by warranty.

July 2004 to Nov 2006 X9 amalfi

Dec 2006 to Jan 2010 Honda SilverWing 400

Feb 2010 to Nov 2015 Honda Fit

Dec 2015 to Oct 2017 Toyota ISIS

Feb 2017 to May 2017 Honda ST1300

Jun 2017 onwards Honda Silverwing 400

I wud like to comment that this thinking of just using mineral oil to clean out the engine is WRONG ! A NEW engine has very tight tolerances and needs every bit of lubrication at all temperatures. The best oil that can provide this is a Good multigrade Synthetic - which will also gather all the bits and pieces. All YOU need to do is make a FIRST change as soon as possible say 400 KM and again at 2000KM.

Another benifit of Synthetic oil is that it leaves a film of lubricant for longer period than mineral. So that the engine is protected when first started. Requirement period for WARM UP is also shorter and you shud be able to ride off after 2 minutes from a COLD start.

In any case this practice of warming up engines dates from pre historic times when engine lubricants were single grade and needed to be warmed up to reach the operating temperature / viscosity. And as for us SW riders warm up is even more irrelevant as the EO is not running through transmission or any clutch. So dont waste your PETROL in this practice of waiting for the second bar to light up. Check your HONDA operators manual ! Does it ever say to do this ?

And oh yes ! Leave the engine idling speed at 1200 to 1300RPM, despite reading that others say to adjust it to 1000rpm. There is a reason for this ! The oil pump only works correctly at 1200rpm or more. That is a HONDA secret !!!

Kris Rider.

How did u know abt the oil pump working correctly at 1.2k rpm?

Think some regular Botak's customers have theirs changed to 1k idling speed, recommended by him. :)

Answer to Hilfiger,

I been having Hondas since 1968, raced them, toured with them and when i was based in Japan made a nuisance of myself at their Factories and Development facilities. Made a lot of friends with their Engineers and Test riders and we still keep in touch. I am basically a very Technically orientated person and do on occasion ask a lot of Dumb questions. When i got my first SW (in Japan) i set the idling RPM to 1000 after 2000 KM then when i visited their Service booth the Engineer scolded me and showed me by diagram and specs that there was not enough speed to drive the oil pump and over a period of time as the oil deteriorated the lubrication was virtually nil at the idling speed of 1000RPM.

As a matter of interest dont you find that the engine practically hesitates when you try to accelerate from 1000RPM. The pickup is smoother when the idling speed is at recommended level.

Oh i see. Thanks for sharing yr experience. Manual recommends 1.3k +/-100. U recommend 1.2k. So which is better? Will affect FC?
